Hideaway Murder Suspect Captured, City Sues Hideaway, Security Guard Implicated

Update: Police said Collier allegedly paid a security guard $20 to let him and his accomplice in through the back door of The Hideaway and did not frisk them.

Justice is coming for those involved in The Hideaway's Halloween homicides.  The city asked a Chancery Court to declare the nightclub to be a public nuisance yesterday while JPD arrested Eddie Collier and charged him with two counts of capital murder and seven counts of aggravated assault.

Jackson Municipal Court Judge Jeffrey Reynolds denied Collier bond on the two capital murder charges and set his bond on the aggravated assault charges at $500,000 per charge ($3.5 million).

The city of Jackson did not stop at locking up suspects but asked a Hinds County Chancellor to declare the nightclub to be a public nuisance.

The city of Jackson sued Deville Entertainment, LLC, dba The Hideaway, Deville Plaza, LLC, Weldon Vineyard, Abraham Brach, and several John Does in Hinds County Chancery Court yesterday.  Vineyard owns Deville Entertainment.  Brach owns Deville Plaza and is in New York.

Vineyard began operating The Hideaway in 2018.  The complaint says JPD received over thirty calls for service.  Ten of the calls resulted in case numbers.  A shootout took place in the nightclub's parking lot in May, resulting in one death and two people wounded.  The lawsuit mentions the April shooting of a woman in the parking lot of fellow Deville Plaza tenant Capital City Grille.

The complaint recounts what took place Halloween night.  Two masked men entered The Hideaway through the back door, armed with rifles and wearing ski masks.  They were looking for some people with whom they had had an altercation earlier that evening.  The two men fired into the crowd on the dance floor, killing two people and wounding four others.

The plaintiff does not play around in laying blame at the defendant's feet:

17. At all pertinent times herein, the Defendants had a duty to the patrons and invitees, and to the public in general, to undertake reasonable steps to ensure that The Hideaway was reasonably secure and safe from foreseeable criminal conduct; fit for their particular purpose, and that reasonable security measures were provided and maintained. Defendants had specific control and authority to make decisions material to the personal safety and security of its patrons and invitees and to warn them and other patrons of danger.

18. Defendants have permitted activities that are both illegal and dangerous to occur at or around the subject property, which have created an environment that is harmful to innocent patrons and the public. In addition, Defendants have failed to maintain a safe environment for both the customers of the establishment as well as adjoining landowners and nearby property owners including single family homes and a daycare.

The city of Jackson asks the Court to issue a temporary restraining order and permanent injunction against the operation of The Hideaway and close The Hideaway after declaring it to be a nuisance.

The case is assigned to Hinds County Chancellor Tiffany Grove.

Kingfish note: Still can't believe this is Deville Plaza.  Deville Plaza.  It's time we did something about Rankin County crime.

Kudos to Horhn for going hard after this. But he's got to throw these heaters every inning of every day if Jackson is to have a chance at returning to some sort of safety normalcy.

RANKIN COUNTY THUGS. As I said.....the culture rot extends far into the bowels of our state. Has infected most all of our poorer youth both black and white. All you gotta do is pay attention.

Read an article on WLBT web site and part of the article stated, "As part of the lawsuit, the city is seeking a court order requiring the shopping center owner to implement sweeping security improvements across the entire property, including enhanced lighting, surveillance cameras, and security personnel." Didn't Chief Doc take out camera's as violation of privacy?

@9:37 there is a difference between a private entity setting up cameras vs. the State having cameras.

People don't like to admit brandon and other little towns in rankin county have bad thugs roaming around. And by people i mean white rankin county residents

Where do you think the Suburban Rankin Truck Gun -to-Jackson Thug Pipeline comes from? Who do you think was Carly Gregg’s drug dealer?

Can't believe the blaring classical music wasn't enough security.

She wants to let a new contract to reset with the various vendors who is exactly in charge. She don't care about privacy. Cameras are going to be used. Just watch.

The Landowner Protection Act sure is protecting these out of state landowners....

Neck tats theory holding firm….I’m a thug and don’t know how to act in society

I’ll admit it but this mass shooting is not about white Rankin county thugs so stick to the topic. The white kids aren’t riding down the street with guns out the window randomly target practicing like the shooting/murder on Deryll street last week. Just shooting for the hell of it.

This is gang activity, planned premeditated murder. I hope there are more arrests coming.

9:56 blaring classical music keeps the homeless tweakers away. It’s not a shooting deterrent. Please STFU when you don’t know what you’re talking about. Gah lee.

How do we get these Brandon thugs out of Jackson? Face and neck tats should be codified as probable cause.

The facts of this case should get it to a jury. You'd prefer to have no restaurants or bars in Jackson? That's where things were headed with limitless premises liability plus jackpot judges and juries.

Isn’t it a law in MS that if you have a tat, you must show it while in public regardless of where it is?

Anonymous said...

Too bad these thugs don't realize this isn't a movie about South Central L.A. In real life, there's a price to pay when a bullet leaves the barrel of the gun they're holding.

They’ve been in Rankin since the early 90’s at least, nothing new. Don’t forget all your black flight coming in over the past 20-25 years.

I caught this comment @ 9:33: "Has infected most all of our poorer youth both black and white."

I wonder if that poster would let us know of poor whites systemically shooting up towns and killing other poor whites.

It always fails when an attempt is made to pretend your culture is not rotten when you pretend all others are as well - somehow suggesting rot is normal.

Can private citizens sue Jackson for the nuisance and stress it has created because of incompetent leadership and failure to clean up thereby creating a decline in property value and increased expenses for homeowners who have to spend thousands per annum to keep rodents and debris away in order to maintain a decent quality of life in your own home as taxpaying residents. What's good for the goose should be good for the gander.

"Lighten up, Francis."

Accessory charges for the "security"?

"That's where things were headed with limitless premises liability plus jackpot judges and juries."

You are 100% incorrect and uninformed.

The Mississippi Landowners Protection Act, passed several years ago, provides immunity to property owners and business operators from lawsuits based on acts of third parties.

That is the exact opposite of "limitless premises liability."

Excellent comment, 12:38. You beat me to it.

I'm interested in the $20 given to the security guard. That just dumbfounds me. At capacity, went to back door, bribed security guard and got in with a gun. Does the security guard work for a company or was this just a bouncer at the door? That part just amazes me.

Neck tattoos on the "security" too?

LOCK 'EM UP!

This guy was on house arrest in Rankin County and was not charging his ankle monitor. This is Rankin County fault he should never have gotten out of jail. Rankin catch and release program!

Isn't the Hideaway's (or is it Deville Entertainment's) ABC license listing all owners a public record?

LETS SEE IT HERE!

WLBT's version of ther backdoor security guard update at this moment states: "The detective also provided more details about the incident, saying the club was already at capacity at the time of the shooting, and that the promoter and a security guard let him in through the back door.

Police say Collier paid the security guard an extra $20 so he could get in with a weapon. "

THE PROMOTER WAS INVOLVED IN THE BACK DOOR ACCESS TOO?!

I live in Brandon. These thugs live in the back woods where they can sell and smoke dope almost in hiding. It's a real issue.

1:22 "In hiding..?" Naw, in their apartments.. or cars anywhere in town. These people don't have to go in the back woods.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
