Ole Miss Fans: Hush!

Ole Miss fans need to be quiet Saturday night.

The message posted below is floating around on social media.

An Open Letter to Rebel Nation
To all Ole Miss fans—the die-hards, the ones who are red and blue to the core: I am one of you. I am an Ole Miss Rebel, die-hard to the core, and I will be until the day I die.
The emotions surrounding this game didn't start this week. They have been building and escalating for 10 months. Every development, every headline, every interview, every social media post and every new piece of drama has added another layer. And now here we are. LSU vs. Ole Miss. No. 7 vs. No. 8 in the AP Poll. College GameDay in the Grove. LK returning to Oxford. Ten months of emotions coming to a head in one afternoon. As if this game needed another ounce of buildup or drama, being a Top-10 matchup just turned the volume up another notch.
I know almost everyone is happy LK is gone, while still being furious about how he did it and everything that has happened since. I get it. When it feels like someone is willing to create chaos and burn relationships with the school and athletic program to the ground on the way out, it makes people beyond mad. I'm with you.
But I think we need to remember something.
LK thrives on attention. He thrives on drama, chaos and controversy. He loves hearing his name whether people are praising him or cursing him. He has never seemed to mind being the villain—in fact, he appears to embrace it.
So why are we feeding it? Every time we search his name on social media, comment on something about him, share another story, argue about him or click another headline, we give him exactly what he wants: Attention. The biggest punishment for someone who needs to be the center of the conversation isn't hatred. It's irrelevance.
So when he walks into Vaught-Hemingway, don't boo. Don't scream. Don't curse. And certainly don't throw anything. Go silent. Imagine Vaught-Hemingway going absolutely, eerily silent when he walks onto that field. No boos. No chants. No reaction. Nothing. For someone who thrives on being the center of the story, imagine expecting 60,000 people to erupt—and instead hearing silence.
He would be expecting anger. He would be prepared for boos. He would know how to use the hostility. But complete silence? That's a mind game he wouldn't be expecting and wouldn’t have a clue how to deal with.
And then, when our Rebels take the field?
MAKE THE VAUGHT SHAKE.
There is something else we need to acknowledge about this particular game: the makeup of the crowd probably isn't going to look like a normal Ole Miss home game. There will undoubtedly be people in that stadium who aren't our normal season-ticket holders. There will be one-off ticket buyers coming because of the drama and spectacle surrounding this game. Some will be hoping to see confrontations, fights or something they can record, post and turn into the next viral moment.
At the same time, I know die-hard Ole Miss fans who have decided not to attend. They know the history and bad blood with LSU. They know what College GameDay coming to town adds to the atmosphere. They know the emotions that have been building for the past 10 months. And now you add a No. 7 vs. No. 8 matchup on top of everything else. Some longtime fans simply don't want to be part of the hoopla. That makes it even more important for those of us who are there to remember what we represent. We represent Ole Miss, we have Class. Do not act like our opponents. Don't let a handful of people who came looking for a spectacle determine what the rest of the country sees when it looks at Rebel Nation. Don't give the media the circus everyone is expecting. Because now the entire country has a reason to watch this game that has absolutely nothing to do with the drama. Two Top-10 football teams are playing in Oxford.
Let's make that the story.
And I don't believe this game will necessarily be won simply by whoever has the best defense, the best offense, the best team or even the best coach. There are too many emotions involved. This game could be won by the team that plays with the biggest chip on its shoulder without allowing all of the outside noise and drama to get inside its head.
And here's the problem: Outside noise and drama are LK's comfort zone. He coaches in it. He performs in it. He knows how to use it. So why in the world would we give him more of it?
Don't provide the fuel. Give every ounce of that energy to the players wearing OLE MISS across their chest. Be deafening when our Rebels enter the Vaught. Be deafening on third down. Be deafening after every tackle. Every first down. Every turnover. Every touchdown. Every big play. Make Vaught-Hemingway one of the loudest and most intimidating environments Ole Miss has ever played in. But when everyone expects the boos, screaming and chaos directed toward one person? Dead. Silence.
The media is coming because there is a huge football game—but let's be real, they are also coming because there is a story. They know the history. They know the bad blood. They know the emotions. They know what has happened over these past 10 months. And they know drama generates clicks. Don't give them the sideshow. That applies before the game, too. Stop searching his name. Stop clicking every story just because his name is in the headline. Stop commenting on every post. Stop sharing every new piece of drama. Stop making him the center of every Ole Miss conversation. Because every search, every click, every comment and every share tells the media and the algorithms one thing: Give us more. Quit feeding it, and eventually the story fades.
For someone who loves attention, what better response could there possibly be than to simply make him irrelevant? Most importantly, stop allowing someone who left to continue controlling the emotions of the people who stayed. Put the attention where it belongs: Our players. Our coaches. Our university. Our Ole Miss.
I am red and blue to my core. I will be until I die. And that's exactly why I don't want Rebel Nation remembered for what happened in the stands that day. I want us remembered for what happened on the field. I want the national story afterward to be about Ole Miss football—not a fight in the stands, something thrown onto the field, an ugly confrontation or a viral video that has nothing to do with football.
We have a Top-10 matchup in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Let's act like it. No circus. No fights. No throwing things. No free attention. No feeding the drama. No making one man bigger than Ole Miss.
When he appears: MAKE THE VAUGHT GO SILENT.
When our Rebels appear: MAKE THE VAUGHT SHAKE.
Let No. 7 vs. No. 8 be about football. Let the players settle it on the field. And then— Let the scoreboard do the talking.
And one more thing:
DO NOT STORM THE FIELD AFTER WE WIN. Storming the field sends the message that we didn’t expect to win. Ole Miss is a powerhouse. We should expect to win every game we play in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. If we beat LSU, celebrate hard. Be loud. Sing. Stay in the stands. Let the players have their moment. But don’t storm the field.
LK will be expecting that reaction, and if it happens, it gives him another storyline and another excuse. He can turn around and say we only won because of “his” recruited players or because this was some emotional upset. Don’t give him that either. Let the message be simple:
We expected to win.
We did win.
And we handled it with class.
No circus. No fights. No throwing things. No storming the field. Just Rebel Nation acting like a program that belongs in the national conversation. Leave the game with class. Let the scoreboard do the talking.

Go to Tiger Rant to see just how obsessed LSU fans are with Ole Miss. There has to be a million posts about how they are not concerned about Ole Miss.

And this anonymous letter was on there too.

Don't act like this is a one sided thing KF.

Anonymous said...

KF just another M$U Maroon. He can't help himself.

Anonymous said...

Ooof at the AI slop poster. Take my eyes.

Anonymous said...

Ha ha, "Ole Miss is a powerhouse."

A powerhouse doesn't have to publish a step by step instruction manual for its fans.

Anonymous said...

HA! All the flowing alcohol before the game will more than likely guarantee none of these wishes will happen.

Anonymous said...

Fortunately alcohol is not allowed.

Anonymous said...

Just going to be a show over there of drunk "Rednecks"

Anonymous said...

Obviously been a while since you’ve been in the Vaught.

Anonymous said...

Gosh I hate the inundation of AI 'graphic design'. Hobby Lobby!

Anonymous said...

Strange, but all the mustard is sold out in Oxford.

I quit reading after I read the same thing for the fifth time. Like Ole Miss fans are really going to read this and abide by it. It's going to be a complete circus. Lol

The Northern Mississippi Jackass can never stop braying, and, with a 98 percent acceptance rate, I don’t suppose many of them can read this slop anyway. .Hee Haw and Hotty Toddy , y’all.

College football drama is such a waste of time. Lost on me totally, thank God.

Anonymous said...

LOL! None of that is going to happen. It's going to be a sh!t show and on par for all that class they talk so much about. Hobby Lobby, or something like that...

These people are truly pathetic.

Anonymous said...

If Ole Miss is a powerhouse then why do their coaches leave for better jobs

Anonymous said...

You must not read this blog much, but our friendly neighborhood KF is an LSU fan...

Anonymous said...

Despise notes like this telling others what to do.

Stop this, don't do that.

Hey pal, up yours.

I'm pretty sure he's an LSU wantobe.

Powerhouses made it to the CFP semifinals.

I’m with 1:29, I’m sick of the AI generated posters. The first couple I saw looked cool, now they all look the same, looks like a typesetter puked on them.

Anonymous said...

Such a weird cult

Anonymous said...

I have a growing hate for Ai

Anonymous said...

Thats nothing, i saw a video of Lane Kiffin and Nick Saban making out posted on social media. It’s an actual video so you know its true.

Anonymous said...

Why are you so obsessed with MSU 1:14? They were not even mentioned here until you? And KF is LSU...are you new here?

Anonymous said...

Someone is pretty self-absorbed to think the rest of us care enough to read that prolix rant.

Anonymous said...

This bottom of the barrel social media garbage is cluttering up the site. It’s so bad some of it is being posted multiple times. Maybe the site has been hijacked by a teenage boy.

I am betting it’s going to be silent by the half. The stands will be empty and the Miss fans will be headed home.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
