Does anyone want to guess which drug dealer will never see the inside of a real prison despite a thirty-year sentence in Mississippi?
A Madison County grand jury indicted Dowdy in September 2022 for aggravated trafficking in controlled substances, possession of meth with intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute MDMA, possession of alprazolam with intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute alprazolam, and possession of tetrahydrocannabol. The indictment alleges Dowdy was caught with 200 grams of MDMA, between 40 and 2,500 dosage units of alprazolam. and between 10 and 30 grams of tetrahydrocannabol.
Circuit Judge Judge Brad Mills sentenced Trey John Dowdy, III to serve 30 years in prison for possessing between ten and thirty grams of MDMA with intent to distribute on August 1, 2023. This is where the story should end but we are talking about the Dowdys. Dowdy's father is former MBN Director John Dowdy. The elder Dowdy is an Assistant District Attorney in Pike County. Dowdy was supposed to serve his sentence in the custody of MDOC. However, the elder Dowdy begged the Court to show mercy and place his son in a trusty program at a county jail at an April 2023 hearing. The former director claimed he put many people in prison as MBN Director and in his current job as a Pike County prosecutor. A sobbing Dowdy said he was fearful for his son's life. Dowdy's attorney repeated the plea at his sentencing on August 1, 2023. Earlier post.
Judge Mills denied the request but Dowdy and his lawyer went to work on MDOC. MDOC asked Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker to keep Dowdy in his jail as a trusty.
Well, Dowdy has not been in the Madison County jail for over a year. MDOC transferred him to satellite facilities in South Mississippi and in Madison County. In other words, MDOC placed him in a work release program. It will not be a surprise if MDOC releases Dowdy when he serves 25% of his sentence. Nonviolent and all that, you understand.
How many drug dealers in prison wish they got this deal? So much for hard time.

KF, not to worry because if you ever get busted for drugs I'll testify on your behalf.
The guy is a looser. He will get his payback one day. Let us sit over here and wait for it.
Dowdy is no different than a DEI hire. Always the smartest guy in the room. If karma is real, his time will not end well.
Why can’t grown adults make up their own mind if they want to use drugs?
A loser too.
A similar thing happened to the stepson of a famous writer, Hired a Jackson bigshot attorney and the charges disappeared.
I agree it’s a bad look. But Dowdy Sr. is not wrong in his concerns. He has put a lot of people in prison who might want to take it out on his son with the same name. Not saying he should be a trusty somewhere. But kept in a county jail seems warranted.
Not so. There is a reason you don't hear about cops getting killed in prison around here. The authorities are not stupid. They have protocols for dealing with touch prisoners.
