The geniuses at the University of Meechigan took it upon themselves to ban grades for freshman. This is no joke. The university announced the change on its website:
The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is working collaboratively with faculty and staff across campus to design a pilot program that helps foster an environment where college students can acclimate to the demands of a University of Michigan education and pursue new academic challenges.
Beginning in fall 2027, the College will designate all LSA first-year students’ first-semester grades as pass (P) or no credit (NC) on their transcripts. While LSA students will still receive grades and instructor feedback in every course as they always have, final grades will not be recorded on their external transcripts and will not be reflected in their GPAs. LSA students’ official transcripts will state that all grades in the first semester are automatically designated as P/NC....
The university will retain internal records of the grades LSA first-year students earn during their first semester for purposes of compliance, academic advising, potential academic awards and scholarships, and for students’ use as they apply for internships, majors outside of LSA, or other academic and professional opportunities. Students will receive either a passing or no-credit designation for their courses taken during their first semester, which will not factor into GPA calculations.
Beginning in their second semester, LSA students’ grades will be recorded in their transcripts and reflected in their GPAs for all subsequent semesters they are enrolled at U-M. Announcement.
Suppose one went to Michigan State or Central Michigan and applied to med school or law school. Does that mean the University of Michigan applicants get a leg up by not having bad first semester grades show up on their records?

We are living in the final days of useful human labor. At this time the only thing that matters is accumulating as much wealth and resources as possible to afford the best AI and robots you can afford to work for you and generate wealth. Paying to support the lives of nearly worthless humans is not on the agenda going forward. So what does a degree even matter? And doctors? AI is already better than any human doctor.
Most jobs are going to disappear.
Most people will be replaceable.
Your time, your effort, your "value" -irrelevant
The near future wont care about your feelings.
It will only care about output per token
You either adapt, own capital, or be left behind
That's the only real choice now.
Nobody can change the direction.
The surveillance state is already in place.
Only those who have capital will have any value.
Everyone else is just unproductive.
I wish they had this when I was in school
This country needs a mandatory 2 year military service requirement for the sake of the future of our country.
Why should we care about this?
When the goal is to trap the plebes in crushing student loan debt, what's the difference in an A or D, as long as the meter is running.
Colleges are becoming increasingly irrelevant. This is yet another example of the country as a whole deteriorating. The Romans, the Greeks, all great civilizations rotted from within and everyday this country continues down the path to ruin.
Never thought that I would see participation grades handed out to college students. They don't even state someone failed a course. Instead, it is recorded as "no credit".
When Michigan students graduate and get no job offiers, will they be quoting "Bluto" in "Animal House" by saying, "7 years of college down the f***ing drain..."
I think 11:27/11:37 has been living in a bubble of computer screens, Adderall, and vape smoke for too long. Go outside for a while.
As for Michigan, it is apparently the new San Francisco.
