Looking for something good to watch? There is a real treat on Youtube: Something the Lord Made, starring Alan Rickman and Mos Def. The movie tells the story of how the Great Depression cheated Thomas Vivien out of his chance at medical school. Adept with his hands, he became the lab assistant for the legendary Dr. Alfred Blalock. The two men combined to perform the first successful open heart operation on a blue baby. Mr. Thomas eventually earned his place on the wall at Johns Hopkins Hospital. No f bombs, no sex scenes, no gore, just good ole fashioned story-telling. Enjoy.
Oh yes. The late Dr. Mike Jabaley of Madison trained under Mr. Thomas. His obituary is posted below.

Exceptional, and incredible story told in a masterful way for that time. Both men deserved awards for their subtle, nuanced portrayals that hid their pain through the acheivement.
Mos Def is a surprisingly good actor. Interesting how so many rappers become good actors actors. Ice T, Queen Latifah, Mos Def, LL Cool J. Notice I didn't include Ice Cube in the list because he sucks.

I can’t believe you forgot the best rapper turned actor of all… Marky Mark Walberg!
Dude! Ice Cube should have gotten a Supporting Oscar for "Boyz In the Hood".
I watched it. His name is Vivien Theodore Thomas (August 28, 1910 – November 26, 1985). Mos Def was good but Alan Rickman was excellent as always. Rickman’s attempt at a Southern accent made me think of Robin Hood:Prince of Thieves for some reason.
