Governor Tate Reeves issued the following statement.
Governor Tate Reeves today announced that Mississippi’s total nonfarm employment reached a new record high in July with 1,196,200 jobs.
“There’s been no shortage of record-breaking economic news for Mississippi over the last six-plus years,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “It’s amazing to see what our state is accomplishing and how it’s improving the lives of people across Mississippi. It seems like every week we’re announcing another economic win that’s helping continue Mississippi’s unprecedented momentum. Thanks to the people who live here and our economic development efforts, we’ve been able to change the trajectory of our state. The victories we’re putting up now are going to last for decades. I’m incredibly proud to call myself a Mississippian.”
Since Governor Reeves took office, over $85 billion in new private sector investment has been announced, the six largest economic development projects in state history have been finalized, and thousands of high-paying jobs have been created across the state. Mississippi is second in America for growth in job openings since 2020, with hiring demand up nearly 20%. The U.S. state average was -9.6%.
Additionally, during Governor Reeves' term, the state has had an all-time low unemployment rate multiple times and the second-fastest-growing GDP in the United States. Mississippi was second in the nation for household income growth and had the fourth-fastest-growing per capita income in America.

Mississippi's government is completely compromised, and if you say it out loud they will scream: "You hate Mississippi! Well, why don't you just leave?". I can't stand Delbert, but lately he's the only one speaking to some real issues within the school systems that are going to be Mississippi's downfall.
No one is minding the story people. Not the Attorney General, not the Auditor, not the Speaker, and no one in the Legislature. The Supreme Court is merely an extension of Barbour and Lord Snow. The state needs an enema.

All construction jobs are temporary. They finish the project and move on to the next. The alternative is nothing being built and no one making money in construction. You dumb.

Well except the fact that these aren’t Reeves numbers. They are straight from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a federal agency that has been reporting monthly economic data for a long, long time.

But “absolutely no way to verify” is just a false statement.
How is the “Stop the bleeding “ in the prisons going, Governor?
Mississippi has about 2.2 million people over 18 and about 1.8 million between 18-65. Reeves touting 1.2 million total Mississippians having jobs is little to tout. At a glance, it looks like Reeves' touted number includes teens/college kids with those kinds of jobs, that's 2-300,000 jobs that aren't really capable of supporting the worker, much less a family.

It will depend on the person wanting a job. If they do not have any education or training and don't show up to work Krystal and Wendys would be your best bet on getting a job.
That's great ......now tell us why wages aren't keeping up with prices Mr. Tater. Why getting overtime still won't cover basic needs. Why a loaf of bread...eggs and some milk at Kroger runs 15 dollars after tax. and that is their brand prices. Dare not buy name brand like you can Tater. When was the last time you grocery shopped ?
Two things can be true: Mississippi can have a record number of jobs while also admitting many of them aren't jobs that are adequate for an adult to raise a family or stay out of poverty.
Far too many of our small towns are dependent on fast food joints and Dollar General as the primary sources of jobs in the community. These places pay poorly (the $18 per hour McDonald's offers aren't anywhere in MS) and they also do not offer enough hours for most employees to stay on top of their bills while taking care of children or family. That plus needing transportation in rural areas as well as the inconsistent schedules with random hours, it's understandable why so many of those jobs are revolving doors.
It always bothers me when we recruit business to MS we talk about the low cost of living. Because our leadership speaks it employers act as though they can locate here and not have to pay very much. It's cheaper here than coastal cities of course, but I wouldn't say it's "cheap" these days to live much of anywhere.

Well, there's a redeeming non-reality. DOL BLS has long been the nation's premier agency for churning out factless facts. There is absolutely no way to verify a damned thing they churn out other than the number of claims filed for unemployment insurance. That number is the sole reliable, accurate data point. All the rest is guesswork.
And for Tater to trumpet estimates based on guesswork, random polls that were never taken, revised trends, seasonal averages and non existent figures derived from various dartboards...speaks to his credibility.
By the way, shoe cobblers the world over base their staff needs and supply orders on the average shoe size and shoe age of the Croatian population trending on a five-year moving average. Just as reliable as BLS PowerPoints.
Fed unemployment numbers are "U numbers," 1-7, IIRC. The numbers are more-or-less accurate, you just have to pay attention to what U-number is being reported and under discussion. Similar thing with "jobs numbers" - there are numerous types of them, too, and again, anyone talking about them ought to know what the basis is for this or that Jobs/Employment number, too..
A friend often jokes that we could have 0% unemployment forever if the Fed would just come up with a new U-number: only count people with jobs in that new U number and the "unemployment rate" is forever 0% - unicorn farts, free booze, and everyone is farting into silk. Do a read-up on those U numbers and it will be clear that he isn't far off.
A report on how much money is sent out of the country from Mississippi would clear a lot of things up. The bump in employment may well be illegals sending their $$ home. Since the SOS can't even keep addresses straight for businesses - who the hell knows how many jobs were added.
