Canton Academy issued the following press release.
Canton Academy has named veteran educator and award-winning teacher Jimmy Nix III as its new Head of School, selecting a proven leader with deep experience in academics, student life, and school administration to guide the institution’s next chapter.
Nix began his career in education at Benton Academy, where he taught computer applications, keyboarding, and accounting, and coached junior high and varsity football, as well as boys track. In 2014, he joined the faculty at Jackson Prep, where he taught government and economics, served as technology coordinator, and coached track and football.
In 2020, Jackson Prep named Nix head of the history department, a role he held for four years. He also directed summer camps and summer school programs. The school recognized his excellence in the classroom with its Distinguished Teaching Award in 2019.
In addition to his work in schools, Nix spent several years working with Scholastic Products and Awards, supporting educational programs across the Southeast. A 2005 graduate of Jackson Preparatory School, Nix earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from University of Mississippi in 2009 and a Master of Education in educational leadership from Mississippi College in 2021.
“Jimmy is an exceptional leader with a clear vision for academic excellence and a deep understanding of how to invest in the whole student,” said Canton Academy Board President Danny Spivey. “He has a track record of building strong programs, supporting faculty, and connecting with students in meaningful ways. We are confident his leadership and passion will strengthen our school and position Canton Academy for continued growth and success.”
Canton Academy Board Member Leigh Pace said, “Jimmy’s background in education and leadership, combined with his strong values and community focus, make him an outstanding choice for Canton Academy Head of School. He understands what it takes to build a strong school culture and prepare students for future success.”
Nix and his wife, Anna, a pediatric dentist in Clinton, have three sons, James, Jack, and Tait. The family attends Madison Methodist Church and enjoys hunting and fishing together. “I am honored to serve as head of school at Canton Academy,” Nix said. “I look forward to working with our faculty, students, patrons, and families to build on the school’s strong foundation and continue its tradition of excellence.”

I’m excited for this new challenge for Jimmy. He’s a great guy.
Still surprised that private schools fell for the liberal notion that Headmaster was not politically correct.
Jimmy and his 2 brothers all played on the football team at the same time when they attended Jackson Prep under head coach Ricky Black if I'm not mistaken?
Based on the headline, I was half expecting this article to bear some bad news.
Does Jxn Prep play Canton Academy in football?
Great guy should be just what the doctor ordered for Canton Academy!!
Excellent hire. Jimmy will do great things at Canton and I expect to see him at one of the big 4 soon.
Why is canton such a segregated town. It feels like it's stuck in the 20s
And Nix has a *gasp* "Master's degree"! Consider my proverbial pearls clutched for having read such a terrible term!
I hate woke. And yes, the term "hate" is sufficiently strong for how I feel about this plague on society.
KF, I love the title. Very "clickbait-y" in the best way. Of course, I'm a fan of a pun/dad joke so I'm biased. But well played, sir.
My children compete against Canton Academy for various sports. People of all walks of life and experiences sacrifice to send their kids there. It's a good school. The kids there have never been anything but nice to mine. Always polite and respectful. Hopefully Nix will add something to the school.
6:44am, back in the late 60s or early 70s the white folks shot themselves in the foot by creating the Canton Separate School System way before desegregation. Back when it was created all the white canton children attended Canton Separate School System while all the black children attended Madison County School District schools.
Since then there have been several attempts to roll the Canton Separate Schools System into Madison County School District but has been voted down every time.
I guess you can call it reverse segregation. IDK......
CGA….Canton Gluckstadt Academy has a nice ring to it…..I see only great things to come of this!!!! He has three boys of his own to grow and nurture through this program….let the greatness begin! Great hire!
We will see how this works out….
9:30am , he actually had 3 brothers who played who were members of the Three Nix Mafia. Jimmy was not one of them…….
Shhhh
He was a standout wide receiver and CB back in his day !! I remember him running tight routes and had multiple INT’s. Speed was his killer weapon.
I played with his dad at Prep. Dad was a fast, bad ass linebacker.
