What is it about HOA's that bring out the worst in people? Exhibit A: A recent exchange on social media regarding a local HOA.
Complaint
Forest Point HOA and $100
Excuse me, sir. You speak like a politician. Since you keep getting elected as Chairman or President of the HOA , I guess you are one. I've lived at FP for over 25 years. I can tell you about 'public access.' I moved to the Rez and bought here because I loved to fish. Then some anal retentive decides he, or she, doesn't like it that my fishing boat is parked on my paved driveway. Neither you, Mr. Bollaert, or any of the other Suits and Dresses (S&D) on the HOA Board did one solitarily thing to defend me in that stupid battle. But you still wanted my dues. Public access? I used to love to bank fish off Forest Point Park and met a lot of really neat people there to fish and chat with. That was before you and the S&Ds decided it should be Exclusive to FP HOA members and keep the riff raff out. You forget there are about 157 homes in FP with 37 of them being high dollar waterfront. I wonder what percentage are 'dues paying HOA members'. By yesterday's count there are 12 boats parked on 'landlocked' houses driveways. You and your S&Ds want me to give you $100 to repair a dock that PRV should be maintaining. You and your S&Ds want exclusive use of that dock for 12 people who probably aren't even dues paying members. You've shut out the friends, sorry the riff raff, I used to fish with on the Point. You, and I guess PRV, forgot something which should warrant exploring. Those Public Access spots, the landing and the Point's park, were set up to allow the taxpayers who paid for The Rez to have access and then along comes the S&Ds who don't want the riff raff invading their privacy. Good question to be explored. You don't want me to address how the HOA completely failed in addressing the slumlord, a favored HOA friend, who rents out one of his houses next to me who allowed Mexican roofers to park dual axle trailers and four-wheel drive trucks across the yard until it was terminally, to this day, destroyed. And you post that the HOA works with PRIV to protect our property values. Sorry, Mr. Bollaert, you must be joking , Sir, I think you and your HOA S&Ds need to tighten up and you ain't getting my $100. Regards and take care.
Response
This is response to xxx xxxx post about HOA in Forest Point. I have also lived in Forest Point for 25 years. The $100.00 fee covers insurance and what maintenance we can afford. The pine Bettles trees being cut was paid to be cut by donations. I don't remember you donating time or money. The dues are voluntary if it was up to me they would be mandatory for every home in Forest Point. And yes I am a paying member of the HOA Board. The boat launch is Paid for by a extra fee paid by the HOA members that want to use the boat launch. As your words the Riff Raff was leaving trash and other items at launch and parks. There was no control. If the people that used these areas would have picked up after their self we would have not had a problem. You xxxxxxxx are the problem you do not help to maintain the neighborhood through dues are time and help to make the area a better place to live. I take real offense to the smart ass remark about S/D suits and dresses. I work every day for a living and don't wear either. You have no idea of what goes on in Forest Point and the few people that try and make this a better place. Pearl River Valley was not maintainng either area. The solution is to get involved and help make this neighborhood a better place to live. If you do not want to then don't complain unless you have a solution to a problem. The other solution is to move. As for public acess that is a two way street. If you want it to be public acess then it is your responsibility to take it to the PRV board. When the public abuses the acess then it is up to the HOA to make a decesion to control the acess. Iam a concerned citizen and paying HOA board member.I suggest you attend our General Membership meeting on Thursday 3/5/26 at 6:00 pm at the community center next to fire station and get involved. And by the way I am not a politician
Response to the Response
There are 5 or 6 "Point" subdivisions around Pelahatchie Bay. They all have free access boat ramps and parks, like Turtle Creek next door to Forest Point. None of them have chained and locked their ramps. What are they doing that the HOA Forest Point powers haven't figured out?
You're complaining about time and insurance money and Pine Beetles and not paying attention. I'm saying the HOA screwed up when they didn't think and took over from the PRV who was responsible for maintenance. And the PRV sighed with relief. The landing and park were free when I bought my home and should be free now. Try thinking.

Quickest way to "really" know your neighbors become HOA president.
The PRV Authority is as useless as tits on a boar hog. They run the biggest trailer park in the county. It’s called a campground but when the school bus drops off kids in it it ain’t a camp ground. When your camper has a permanently attached deck it ain’t a camper anymore. They don’t enforce PRV covenants but require you to get a permit to reroof your house. They plead that money is tight and build a new multimillion dollar office. It’s time the Legislature did away with it.
The HOA / Response looks like it was typed by a 13 year old redneck.
What a beast. HOAs are a cancer
@8:23 we need HOA's because people like Mr. Fisherman above bring down everyone's home value with his stupid demands. For most people their homes are their only large asset and people that don't care what their homes look like and don't pay dues bring our home values down because we can't sell them when it's next to a used car lot.
I was always curious how they locked and chained that boat ramp. I was always under the impression it was a public use ramp owned by PRV. Did Forest Point somehow obtain control of said boat ramp for what is basically private use? If so, that is concerning. But it is PRVWSD and they are a little mafia in and of themselves.
I'm sorry for their troubles but it sounds like this person was the reason HOA's became necessary. He is " free" to be an irritable S.O.B. with taste being something that's only in his mouth, and to be the thoughtless, unobservant person who lowers all the property values. His neighbors are free to legally protect themselves from HIM.
This isn't news. This is life where one bad apple starts spoiling the barrel. Not my barrel. And, today's problems are caused by too many of us thinking " one size fits all" in every neighborhood, town, and state in our Nation and that freedom means you get to dictate "my way or the highway" attitudes and have you way every damn time. It means instead that you get a vote, not that you win every vote.

The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District (PRVWSD) regulations explicitly state that the reservoir and its facilities are public property intended for the use and enjoyment of the general public.
• Statutory Intent: The District is empowered by Mississippi state law to operate public parks and recreational facilities for the "enjoyment of the Pearl River and Ross Barnett Reservoir by the general public".
> As your words the Riff Raff was leaving trash and other items at launch and parks.
Never think that HOA members aren't slobs either. Speaking as another HOA dues payer in an unrelated neighborhood. Piss poor response by that HOA.
This type of HOA drama is like the restaurant and grocery store drama videos, it's just missing the video content with crowds surrounding the flapping gums and wildly flailing arms and legs.
I'm not 13 years old, but I have been accused of being a redneck, and there's no way I would send that out.
Isn’t there a Leadership HOA? HOA is what the boys and girls on your high school student council became. Politico-wannabes.
I recommend moving after selling the house to someone who’ll take it Section 8.
It's always good to hear from management, that way we know how close management is to being full on authoritarian. Sieg Heil, Mein
Führer.
HOA’s are horrendous. Their legal powers are extreme. I would NEVER.
We should hire Ridgeway Lane for oversite on the matter, and dues of course.
I owned a house in a subdivision with a HOA in the early 1990s. The politics and hypocrisy were overwhelming. Sold house and moved to a rural area where no one can even see our home from the road and there certainly are no HOAs around here. Get out, folks, unless you're willing to live by other people's ideas of curb appeal.
I bet there is more to this story, like how an HOA that doesn't collect mandatory dues took ownership of a public boat launch on land owned by the state.
