State Bean Counter Shad White issued the following statement Thursday.
Today State Auditor Shad White announced that Verneshia Cody, the owner and operator of TDK Accounting and Tax Services, has pleaded guilty to one count of (wire) Fraud and one count of Bribery of a Public Official.
Cody submitted fraudulent documents to the Mississippi Department of Health (MSDH) to obtain funds via the MS Covid-19 Health Disparities Elimination Project. Cody obtained grant funds improperly by use of fraudulent invoices, improper expense claims, and counterfeit checks. She then withdrew and spent the sub-grant funds for personal use.
“Thank you to the investigators who worked this case and the prosecutors who chose to bring charges,” said Auditor White. “Working with prosecutors, my office has recovered more money in the last seven years than any other seven-year period and we’ve done this by staying true to our promise: zero tolerance for theft of taxpayer money.”
Cody was sentenced by the Madison County Circuit Court to 10 years in MDOC custody, 2 years to serve day for day, and 5 years of supervised probation.
Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s Office at any time by clicking the red button on the Auditor’s website or calling 1-(800) 321-1275 during normal business hours.
Kingfish note: The indictment provides more information.

Dang, two years to serve. You’d a thought she built a Volley Ball court with ill gotten gains…
Or dropped yet another stupid comment on Jackson Jambalaya.
Go get Fauci next..
Another minnow in Shad's bucket. Having said that, one must wonder what this says about society, including the so-called justice system, when this woman basically gets a pass from the judge and can continue doing the same thing in two years.
How low was this fruit?
Tip of the burg
Good job to all for putting one more thief in jail. Yes, there's plenty more to go after. But, at least this one got convicted.
Hopefully, she can master the trade of mopping floors in prison for her new career in the housekeeping industry.
I wonder what things she could have done differently?
Should she have had more high profile and influential friends?
Should she have made noises about smaller and more efficient government?
Should she have called someone and blown the whistle on something? Possible bonus activation if the person listening to the whistleblowing maybe has big plans and might needed her support in the future?! Sadly no for sure here.
Loan clothes to someone important?
Or ran a Ministry for children with nothing to show for it....except a fat idiot dupe who refuses to finger the Big Boss because.....Mississippi.
Or took/gave bribes at the CMU or partied on a yacht in Ft. Lauderdale.
10:57 That greasy spot you are whipping at used to be a dead horse.
No juicy conSULTING and lobbying contract for her!
I literally did nothing worthy of suspicion during Covid except makes some profitable blockchain investments and the state DOR and IRS audited me from 2019-2023.
How does it take them so long to go after actual criminals whose names they already have?
Right on!
She was in Federal Court for the same shigity years ago, this ain’t her first rodeo! Two years is a tap on the shoulder for her.
And all of our local law firms and private schools received millions in PPP without ever missing a day of revenue . . .
