“Starting the day I take the oath of office I will rapidly drive prices down and we will make America affordable again,” candidate Donald Trump said at an August 14, 2024, rally in North Carolina.
As president in May 2025, while telling cabinet members how his tariffs were impeding the cheap goods invasion from China, Trump said, “Well, maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls, you know? And maybe the two dolls will cost a couple of bucks more than they would normally.” But by November, the president was scrambling to address growing “affordability” concerns. “Americans really want their cheap stuff back,” read the tantalizing headline in Business Insider: “Contrary to the president's suggestion earlier this year, it turns out little girls do need 30 dolls. Or, at least, their families want to be able to afford them.” The problem is much bigger than cheap stuff, though. The New Yorker reported Trump’s concerns about food affordability were why Trump eliminated his new tariffs on imported beef, coffee, and bananas, “all of which have risen sharply in price since he imposed his blanket tariffs.” He has also expressed concern about soaring housing costs. And last week he turned about face on extending Obamacare ACA subsidies (with limits) as skyrocketing health insurance costs loom. McComb Enterprise-Journal editor and publisher Jack Ryan reported why people grumble about food prices. “There are way-above-average price increases among foods that are staples of American kitchens: bakery products, fresh vegetables, frozen juices, coffee, sugar, and candy.” And a Lending Tree survey found that nearly 80% of Americans now feel eating fast food is a luxury. Trump understands the power of the affordability argument since it helped him win in 2024. His concern now is that Democrats will use this powerful argument to make gains in congressional elections next year. The New York mayor election intensified that concern. This dilemma should not surprise the president. As he indicated back in that May cabinet meeting, he knew his tariffs would cause affordability pains. And, surely, he realized his goal to reshore manufacturing would raise prices too. The reason why so much manufacturing moved offshore was because U.S. companies realized they could profit more and keep prices down by moving production to lower-wage, less regulated countries. Unless their profit motivation has suddenly evaporated, products brought back here for manufacturing will cost more. It does not appear that the president will be able to deliver on his promise to “make America affordable again” any time soon. Certainly not by next year’s elections. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness” – Ephesians 6:12. Why haven't the Barksdalers picked up Crawford's column? His TDS wold slot in nicely right next to Bobby Harrison.
Everyone knew Trump could not deliver on any promise….their blind hatred for “the other side” drove their vote. Now they own the libs but not a house, a car, or even a bag of groceries. Cut off their noses to spite their faces.
It’s the economy stupid
"It does not appear that the president will be able to deliver on his promise to “make America affordable again” any time soon. Certainly not by next year’s elections".
No one could, or can. Until the fundamentals of what built the nation are restored - it doesn't matter who's in office. They fact that Popeye's and Burger King are having a competition about who has the best chicken sandwich is moot, since the same parent company owns them both. It's all meant to keep you distracted from the gentle slide into Boleshivsm.
I don't know what world Bill Crawford lives in, but in my world things are cheaper.
Haven't the lefties big pharma pals come up with a pill for TDS?
I am safe to drive until I drive us off the cliff!
TDS has replaced Covid.
So Kamala would have done a better job, right RINO Billy?
1023 has real TDS.
The job of The President of The United States of America is to lead this Country to a Better Place, not a darker place.
TDS, would Kamala have done better, all that is distraction: “Oh, look over there! It’s a squirrel!” The facts are, though, quite simply (whether one likes, loves, dislikes, or hates Trump), too many things cost more, and Trump wasn’t going to — could not — do anything to make them go down. Tariffs here, willy nilly money printing there, and taxes and fees everywhere, it all results in a lower quality of life for the American people. Hell, even Japan now has a lower cost of living than the US.
It should be and always should have been Americans First and not America First or Make Israel Great Again.
It all depends on where you stand in the economy. Who will suffer? Certainly not the upper class, millionaires etc. That's who counts. The rest have no real choice anyway. They can eat grass.
I prefer cake, thank you.
1023 - I call absolute b/s on your claim. Bet you can't name two basic products that are cheaper today following the Don's ascendency. Like him or not, most of us live in the same world that Crawford lives in as far as purchasing products at the grocery store, or at Home Depot, or at Gray Daniels, or anywhere that average people have to spend their money.
Trump knew he was spewing b/s when he was campaigning against Biden/Harris - hell, all he has ever done was spew b/s whether it be when borrowing money to build his casinos, filing bankrupty on that casino, supporting Hillary Clinton in her early campaigns, running as a Reform Pary candidate.
There is, however, a few things that are cheaper, and as a DJT devotee you have probably purchased these, although not at their lower prices: the "God Bless the USA Bible"; "Trump Guitars"'; of course, the "Trump Coins"; or the "Trump watch".
Haven't checked the price of the "Trump Digital Trading Card" lately, but I'm sure its price has plummeted along with all his other forays but few match the family's "Trump crypto" despite his Presidential push to make crypto legal tender in the country following its debut.. And Melania's necklace, a limited edition gold necklace along with its digital collectible has fallen in price following its initial push.. But best of all, of course, is today's low price for some "Truth Social" stock, which while cheaper than its initial public offering price still profits the guy who claims he is 'working for free' for all of us.
Yes, those things are cheaper than when he took office - but the price of eggs that he promised would drop like Humpty Dumpty on his first day in office still hangs high.
Don't forget the sneakers, or the cologne - they can be bought cheaper now following their entree into the market and capturing the followers with their charm - or his Trump Picture Book (along with the optional autograph)
As much as I despise dimocraps, I really hate RINO’s.
Crawford, Sid, and other press RINO’s with TDS just can’t stand it….
BDS is even worse than TDS. Trump is hurting our country. He's an amoral grifter.
I do notice gasoline is less expensive since Trump took office, but not much else, if anything, is less expensive.
@7:40 - There are still plenty of cheap shots in the comments section.
I went to Kroger for $100 worth of groceries last week, and it only cost me $200. I don't know about all that other stuff.
Like Bill Ackman said (not a fan but dead balls on with this one) on CNBC when another White Liberal Lapdog Political Hack, Andrew Ross Sorkin was shilling for Kamala “Word Salad” Harris and pointed out a Trump lie:
Maybe 4 years for now we will have 2 candidates running for president that have never told a lie. Until then we have to choose between the 2 candidates we have now (not verbatim but very close and to the point).
The problem TODAY for the biased agenda driven Bill Crawford’s of the world is…we now have places like Jackson Jambalaya to counter their propaganda; which means history will not be good to these hacks when students are being taught just how bad they were for our country.
What the world needs now maybe as much as ever, are men and women of high moral character, educating the public as to why we had the inflation in the first place, instead of trying to capitalize on an ignorant electorate by blaming the current Republican administration for not being able to fix the previous leftist Democrat administrations manufactured problems, fast enough.
"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor." Exodus 20:16
Becoming " A House Divided" especially by something as ridiculous as " party loyalty" is suicidal. We won't have a Mason-Dixon Line or any lines at all this time. Nor is there any state that doesn't have members of both parties. Pay attention to the math on election night. Then look at how many don't vote in each state as well. Your loyalist " army" for either party isn't as large as you think.
And, in case you didn't notice, even with a passport, a plane and a bag of gold, it won't be easy to flee " someplace else". Look at the requirements for your first 10 choices.
There are other once prosperous countries that divided based on loyalty to a person or group or religion. A country ruled by continuously by one man or woman and their loyalists with only one approved state religion is a dictatorship ,even if the official title is "President" (see China). Our Founders knew that and the notion of two powerful political groups worried them. When you are a good "head of state", you want ALL the people in your "realm" to prosper. President (all the country), Governor (the entire state), Congress (their state interests are well served but country first). And, for all of us, a just rule of law so we aren't arrested unless we break the law and there's probable cause we did, is the very foundation of freedom. Our greatest threat is self-centered and incompetent humans, no matter what their "job " party". Both parties have far too many! And, that's because too many of us vote based on the idiocy of "party loyalty" rather than demanding to know their solutions to problems.
