"This will not be the planetarium you remember as a child."
Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is holding his regular briefing. It is live-streamed below.
* The city had a Miles for Moms walk last weekend to bring attention to black maternal health. The event was aimed at educating the public on problems black mothers face.
* Discussed the South Jackson Proud Parade, thanking all who made it possible.
* The Mayor addressed pictures of sinkholes posted on social media. Hizzoner said the city is aware of the ones on Denver Street and Westhaven. He warned influencers of "playing around" the sinkholes as they are inherently dangerous.
* The Mayor provided an update on the planetarium. The facility is undergoing renovations. The planetarium's summer camp will be held at JSU.
The city is accepting bids for exhibits at the planetarium. The Mayor promised "This will not be the planetarium you remember as a child."
The planetarium should reopen in December.
* Work should soon begin on the fire suppression system. The City Attorney met with the State Fire Marshal and reached a consensus on what measures should be taken to pass the fire inspection.

You mean the sinkhole in the street that's been there so long it has trees growing out of it?
Just out of curiosity, does anybody ever attend Baby Chok's pressers in person? I know it's live-streamed, but these weekly briefings just seem awfully lame with no audience. I guess Chuck is just trying to stay relevant, whatever that means these days in Jacktown.
Duh!
Oh it's already not the planetarium I remember as a child there, boss.
"The planetarium should reopen in December but I will not be your Mayor when it reopens."
My thoughts exactly, 3:15.
How many times did he say Right"
The Mayor promised "This will not be the planetarium you remember as a child."
So I guess that means they'll be serving fried fish/chicken too ?
There's nothing better for watching the watching the wonders of the
Solar System while chowing-down on a crispy/crunchy chicken wing or catfish tail.
He didn't say "Right" nearly enough times to fix his electile disfunction!
“ We won’t fix these large potholes, so don’t play around them”
I would be great if all of the reporters would say "right" at the end of their questions.
6:26pm
Great idea, right.
I will personally arrange for a striped prison shirt to hang in the closet of the Council Chambers, where he used to hide from the Pledge of Allegiance, or hang it in the adjacent hall, or in the public men's room, if that's his new retreat from the American Flag.
Amusing that Chuck suddenly pretends to care about these things he should have easily fixed years ago.
Sadly, lots of low IQ voters will fall for it, along with the racist rants that whitey is to blame.
"You can see all of Jackson Potholes from outer space." Hope the mayor will edit them out of the planetarium presentation.
(8:22 PM) Very disgusting to all veterans who died or came back from war with a disability to watch Chokwe Antar Lumumba hide from the Pledge. How can the voters of Jackson stomach this?
6:26, that would be absolutely hilarious!
I say he renames it from Russell C. Davis to the Chokwe Antar Lumumba Planetarium and Multicultural Arts Center
A quote from the Mayor to WAPT yesterday: "What I will say is that we have a lot to speak of. We brought more money to the city of Jackson and any administration of the city's history. I can say that we brought crime down. I can say that we have strategies for economic development. I can say that we've done a lot," Lumumba said.
WTH is he talking about ? When he says he has brought more money to the City than any other administration, I assume he's including the 800 million the federal government gave to fix the water system. But he didn't bring that money to the City, the feds did. And the feds gave it to the City because the mayor failed to collect almost 100 million in water bills that resulted in no maintenance being done and the system finally collapsing.
And he says crime has gone down during his administration. No, it actually skyrocketed his first few years. Yes, it has gone down a little the past 2 or 3 years, but it's still above average of the level that existed before he took office.
And last but not least, he says he has "strategies" for economic development. We don't need strategies, mayor. We need actual development, and you have brough none, zero, nada to the city in the past 7.5 years. You've had 7.5 years and done nothing to bring development to the city. More businesses have left and gone to the suburbs than stay here in the city.
Rest easy 12:14 as one week from today he'll be a lame duck headed out of office.
Did he mention the year of completion or just "December?"
It was supposed to be done 4 years ago. A ton of money has been donated by different organizations. I wonder where all that money went?
He is literally promoting his office's decision to not disconnect unpaid water bills as a "win" on city social media. And promising all kinds of "improvements" - all post election - like a desperately unneeded pavilion at a zoo where the animals are pitifully neglected and no one will go to due to the crime. If the citizens vote for him, they deserve the last flaming dive into final destruction of the city that he will provide.
It is already different than the planetarium that we went to as kids. It had running water and your vehicle would be there when you went to leave. Can't say that about today's planetarium.
Say it ain't so, right? Bennie Thompson has endorsed John Horhn.
Chucky can't fixed the sinkhole and the streets. That money could have gone towards the streets. Its time for Chucky to Go!
