Check out what has happened to a Jackson landmark. Feel free to throw something at the wall.
It is only a matter of time before the bums take over. Then someone will want to stay warm and before you know it, the whole place burns down.
Update: Hinds County property records state Elite Indian Cuisine, LLC purchased the property in 2021. Naturally the company did not pay the taxes in 2021, 2022, or 2023. It finally redeemed the 2021 and 2022 tax bills in July 2024. Ravi Bedi of Madison (Of course it's Madison) owns the company.
Hmmm..... don't pay taxes, let a building crumble, vagrants take over. Must be a caste thing.

Is that the Elite?
That is correct.
Was there no market value for a prime downtown property?
It is.
That WAS the Elite
I bet that cooper is totally still there.
Dirty Mike and the boys partying
Radical.
Wow! Hate to see this. Great memories at The Elite. Crying shame grifter Democrats ruin every damned thing.
Driving down Capitol Street, it appears there are more empty buildings than occupied ones. Really sad.
Looks like the bums HAVE taken over, already. I see zero aging, and one hundred percent vandalism/breaking-&-entering/theft.
Maybe if the republicans that moved out of jackson because they didn’t want to live with Black people still lived there this wouldn’t be a problem. Maybe they could out vote the
Looks like a camp set up in the back. Also a heat lamp.
My father played the piano there years ago. So many great memories. It's a shame Jackson is such a crumbling mess now.
I would like to think 11:56 is not serious, but he probably is. The blame some one else for my actions crowd. Very sad and an example of why Jackson is as it is.
My bad. It was the Silver Platter where my Dad played the piano. I'm sure that's in tatters also.
11:56 should replace the moniker "republicans" with "common sense people" (both republicans & dems) but then the sentence would still be laughable.
11:56- BlamingJackson’s problems on others ie it’s the State’s fault that the infrastructure failed, it’s the former white residents fault that tax revenue (property values) are down, JPS student performance is down because ??? & the mayor had to go to Florida to raise campaign funds because white folk won’t donate.
Sickening. What happened to all the fixtures? Did the person who sent this to you report? Downtown vandals have previously been caught and prosecuted.
Zouboukas sold it a couple of years ago to Raviner S. Bedi who owns it under the name Elite Indian Cuisine, LLC. Property taxes are always in arrears and sold for taxes but he redeems them. Taxes are high enough without having to pay penalites and interest every year but that seems to be his plan.
That last comment about the owner of Elite Indian Cuisine needs to be independently verified. Bedi was listed as an officer of Elite Indian but that LLC is dissolved so it's probably not accurate to attribute him to Indian Cuisine.
Dear idiot..... republicans did not move away because they did not want to live with blacks. Republicans moved away because Democrat leadership allowed crime to escalate, allowed light to take over, allowed corruption to take over, to the point that it wasn't safe for a Republican family to live there any longer. Prove me wrong!
I took the pictures this morning. Doors weren't busted out a couple of weeks ago.
11:56 the Elite was open for 72 years. Do you even think before type? Jackson’s exodus consisted of all races. All realizing the same thing- it’s better and safer for themselves and their families to avoid the amoral nonsense and mediocrity in Jackson. Peddle your excuses and victimhood grievances somewhere else. Standout in front of the zoo, Thalia hall, libraries, convention center or maybe outside the federal courthouse where the mayor and da are under indictment and tell everyone how these problems are because whites not wanting to live with blacks.
When Ditto got elected, the spiral began
I don’t buy into white flight. When a black family buys a house from a white family don’t they pay the same taxes?
What is downtown Jackson’s commercial building vacancy rate?
11:56...
Ridgeland High School is 10% white. Terry High School is 5% white. Pearl High School and Clinton High School are less than 50% white.
It is not "White Flight." It is "Intelligence Flight."
“Intelligence Flight” is right. I call it “Bright Flight”. I’m from Jackson but when I worked in Rankin County I interviewed numerous blacks hoping to escape Jackson. Those groups that will not accept what caused the problem can never correct it. It’s easier to blame white flight than fix real problems. That might take work
The bums already took over. They took over City Hall and ruined the entire town.
I'm getting emotional thinking about the Elite's breaded veal cutlets, rolls, enchiladas ... and homemade pies.
But at least I have my memories.
11:56, was it your intent to imply that Republicans are not human? I ask, because your phrasing, "...republicans THAT moved out...", is only correct, if those Republicans are assumed to be non-humans. Otherwise, the correct phrasing would be, "...Republicans WHO moved out..."
Even in the backwoods all-minority hellhole where I grew up, people knew when to say "Who", and when to say "That". We learned such things so early in life, Infantile Amnesia has erased the exact moment when we learned it. You must have grown up in even more wretched circumstances than did I.
You have my sympathy.
I'm a Centrist, by the way, and detest Republicans and Dems equally. WE fled Jackson, after about the fourth time we called the police, and got no response. That was over a quarter-century back.
11:56 AM likely isn’t dumb enough to believe that. Probably just lighting a little fire. Hell, there’s many a white liberal Democrat (the one’s Malcom X warned us about) living in the burbs and sending their children to private schools. Leftist Democrat propaganda pusher Mississippi Today won’t even locate their office in Democrat Jackson.
Besides, Democrats use crime and chaos to keep Republicans from moving into cities like Jackson and voting grifter Democrats like Chokwe out.
3:49 PM nails it!
is the owner (a heck of a nice guy), put very little effort into it from 2010 on. It had little to do with white flight or anything eels. If closed before the plandemic. It could have/should have easily outlasted the Mayflower.
Chokey had a plan and the plan is working. Grift away all the sustainable middle class opportunity and create an avenue for the feds to have to send him money.
Jackson is a failed city. Time to cut our losses and move the capital out of Jackson
They had great rolls. At one time you could stroll tru downtown on your lunch break and eat at the Elite, then one day at the restaurant inside the Walthall for thei awesome lunch and salad bar, then one day the restaurat inside the crown plaza, then one day the diff choices inside Deposit Guaranty. Then the mayflower, Then one day over to Cristo's on Lamar by the securities buildings. Then of course Hal and Mals or Martins. The one day at Millers Grocery. Even ate up at the University Club and the Petrolium Club later the Capital Club too. This was when you couldnt find an open parking spot on the street.
It's not white flight, it's mostly middle class flight. People who had the means largely got out. Now Jackson proper is predominantly two groups: (1) people too poor to leave; and (2) people with enough $ to buy their way out of the problems (gates, private schools, etc.). And there are unfortunately way more of the former than the latter.
With the exception of several nice churches and church buildings, can somebody tell us one reason for going down town?
Maybe they could open another club in that location? That seems to be the only thing that thrives in the downtown area now.
@7:57 - Some people go to downtown because they work there. A few big law firms, a lot of state government and some hospitals are still there. Most of the fast-casual restaurants have gone - there are a few left - Keifer’s and Steve’s, and Subway and Chik-fil-A in the Regions Plaza. If you dare night time dining, you have to go to Belhaven, at your own risk. After working in downtown Jackson back in the early 90’s, today’s Jackson feels like a movie set from a post-apocalypse movie.
@7:57 I believe Chic Fil A will be gone soon
Driving through Jackson on I-55 recently, the city smelled like burning buildings.
As homeless, psychotic vagrant winos occupy and squat in deserted buildings and burn them down from boozey indoor bonfires, Jackson becomes Blightville alight, thence back to Chimneyville, city of death and devastation. Celebrate Lumumba as Sherman redux.
Last time there I ordered the enchiladas and recieved a few rolls covered in chili. That was it. Sad.
Perhaps enough to open a Cigar Shop?
@7:57 - 9:15 forgot To Lobby the Legislature. We should all keep an eye on that. The most dangerous time of the year is when the Legislature is in session. I shudder to think what they will do to us this time.
1:56 is right. Quit wasting State tax dollars in then City of Jackson. Move State employees out. It’s an investment decision
5:42, those were the days for sure. Except you wouldn’t walk into Martins in your work clothes. I’ve never smelled so much smoke. Luckily the new generation of owners cleaned it up into what it is now, the best lunch place in Jackson.
And don’t forget the original Iron Horse. We made that trek regularly
It seems so racist to say that Jackson is a hell hole because white people left?
Are you saying black people cannot manage a city without Caucasians?
Why on earth would white flight doom Jackson?
I graced those door many, many times. Oh how I miss it. So sad to see this.
I don't have a personal stake in Jackson, but if the voters love Chuck and think he is doing a good job and they keep electing him...who am I to say he cannot run the water system back into non-function.
If the voters want clean reliable water then they should organize marches and protests to let Chuckie know they dont want him to touch it again.
Seems that simple to me.
There are plenty of reasons that business moved out of downtown and restaurants struggled pre-Covid but the one that does not get enough attention is the multi-year shut down of Capitol Street to covert it to two-way and add the medians. That was the nail in the coffin for downtown restaurants. And then Covid was the duct tape sealing the coffin after it was nailed shut. Ain’t no coming back from that in my lifetime.
Are you always this dumb? Your suburban city would crumble without a strong center to benefit from. You need Jackson
@2:32 I live in Fondren and have a few problem vacant properties nearby that seem to go through this same process, not paying property taxes for a couple of years, then redeeming at the last minute. It seems to be a common thing for these investor types, but I don't understand what the benefit is to them? How are they making money doing this instead of putting the properties back into use and collecting rent? Do you understand the con?
To be fair, Krusatyr, much of the smoke, recently, has come from beetle-infested pine trees being burned (why news media never bothered, during the drought, to suggest watering one's pines, is a good clue as to the worthlessness of Legacy Media's "news").
Another contributor to the smoke, is that Jackson seems to be full of people who smoke various things. Cig/joint/blunt/meth/cigar smoke LINGERS - even outdoors (as anyone who's ever been to a trashy Florida beach will tell you).
But yes: the homeless are doing a fine job of clearing the city of its structures. And why not? The place is uninhabitable. If only it would be allowed to return to forest, I think it would make a beautiful wilderness.
