Not Ready for Prime-Time?

The shine might be coming off Coach Prime's tenure in Colorado.  Athlon reported the team has um, locker room problems:

There has been a sudden shift in attitude within the Colorado Buffaloes locker room. While the initial hype surrounding Deion Sanders has dwindled, he has brought more than his "Louis Luggage" to Boulder. The urgency to win has increased as this season is expected to be the final one for Shilo and Shedeur Sanders, along with Travis Hunter.

Coach Prime has reiterated that he's not leaving Boulder with his kids, but rebuilding a program from scratch isn't his forte. Nor is fostering personal development among players. Many programs pride themselves on nurturing talent, but that’s not Prime's approach, and it's becoming apparent. He desires "ready-made" players who can deliver immediate results. It's not about gradually building up; it's about achieving success right now...

Some players aren't suited for "Prime Time," or at least that's what the CU staff wants everyone to believe. But conversations with those who've left Boulder reveals the true nature of the culture within the Buffaloes program.

It's like a real-life Grand Theft Auto video game," one former player said. "There are many distractions with fights, guns, and money floating around. The environment is unlike any I’ve come from before."

"Cormani was taking a lot of heat from everyone," said the former player. "At the same time Coach Prime was saying he was in the doghouse and needed to improve, Cormani was getting bullied by Shilo (Sanders). After the Oregon State game, Shilo slapped him several times, which left Cormani screaming 'I'm going to kill you' repeatedly. After that, you could tell he wasn’t mentally there.

This violence often seemed to come from personal vendettas, but not always. Jordan Seaton, another five-star recruit, was allegedly bullied into "proving his manhood" and picked to fight former CU lineman Savion Washington. In April, the two were said to have exchanged blows, leaving both bloody. Witnesses described it as "two bears scrapping for food."

While bullying was also a common theme, there was another alleged incident involving a gambling debt between backup QB Colton Allen and wide receiver Kaleb Mathis. Days after the Seaton-Washington melee, the son of Kevin Mathis, who's CU's defensive back coach, was asked to pay Allen over a gambling debt in excess of $10,000, according to a former CU player. When Mathis refused, he allegedly proceeded to punch Allen repeatedly in the locker room, with players and coaches witnessing the assault.  Rest of article.

Such things are probably to be expected when one focuses on getting players who only care about money.  Coach Prime himself complained about how such players behaved in class earlier this year.

What sports can become when big money begins to float around a program and team sport athletes (football, basketball, baseball) see others making a lot and they are not. Unfortunately, this is the case in more programs than anyone is willing to admit

Coach Prime sounds like he vaccinated to me.

They are likely to not win a game.

All this chaos should be good for millions of clicks!

Within a two year period college football has so changed that playing for Prime is nothing more than a singular economic option in a world of many econonic options for spoiled kids. Prime's special talent was recruiting talent. Not so special now. He will jockey for an NFL job following his son and protege Hunter to greener pastures. Like other coaches he's a salesman but also an opportunist .

But, isn't that what he did at JSU?

At some point liability attaches. University of Colorado will find it difficult to claim they didn't know what they should have known if the brown stuff ever hits the fan and there is a body.

No excuses for guns, violence and so forth as that DOES NOT BUILD CHARACTER! A great Coach is a leader & mentor helping develop character for these young men! You lead by example and this is UNGODLY Coach Prime!

I attended CU where few cared about attending football games: skiing, hiking, swimming, cycling were so available, active and fun in a beautiful outdoors.

Neon Deon is trying to live in an LED world. Give it up.

@11:39
I also graduated from CU and went to maybe one football game and that was during Coach McCartney's era of natl champion Buffs (although I did see him every sunday as a fellow churchgoer). You're right, not many CU kids cared about football and probably still don't...

I wonder how the campus and surrounding community has reacted to the "culture" that he brought with him. That area is not accustomed to it like we are, and they were probably shocked. Also, as I will say again and again, NIL and the transfer portal will be the end of college football as we know it. They should all be focusing on education first with football second, not the other way around.

It's not Deon's fault that the powers that be, and the TV networks, ruined college football. Just like the NBA or NFL, it is fast becoming a cabal of self-entitlements and payola...legal payola.

@1pm: the under 25s in Boulder have a wealth of outdoor choices beyond getting fat sitting in a stadium watching others exercise and have fun. However, I do not miss the prevalent leftist ideology.

The Dean/President should confront Coach Prime about fighting as that is violence without cause and considered assault, especially if guns are on campus also!

CU, is that even a real university? What is Colorado but Rocky Mountain High and weed?

I continue to contend that organized ball sports must be banned for ten years if not forever. It would be for your own good, getting you fatasses up and out from in front of your wide screens and into some decent clothes without some young buck’s name and number on your back.

Now where is his big mouth daughter who had so much to say about JSU and why her father left because of violence? Seems like your dad and brothers are some of the biggest thugs around who encourages this behavior. JSU be glad this menace is gone. Talking about he can’t rebuild a team from the bottom up. Ummmm sir that is what great coach’s do. Saben did it several times. He won’t last long at CU, talking about how violent Jackson is, seems like they are just as violent. I know CU is wishing they didn’t hire him but now they are stuck with him and his thug culture.

Sorry, D. You're caught up in a classic Peter Principle situation. Should have stayed at JSU. You were an icon there. Besides, there are so many thugs in Jackson acting out that such behavior rarely merits a passing local headline.

CU knew what they were doing when they hired Sanders. It's a dormant program that doesn't have a lot of interest. Coach Prime gave the program some much needed publicity. Prime is getting paid to push his brand and give his kids a bigger field to play on. Everything else is hyperbole.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
