Mayor Holds Weekly Briefing

Ok, boys and girls, it's time for Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba's weekly press conference.  It is live-streamed below.

* The Mayor discussed "public safety hot spots" such as gas stations.  JPD Chief Joseph Wade announced  "Operation Gas Up and Guns Down" to fight crime at Jackson gas stations.  He promised a "strong law enforcement presence" around these businesses.

* Hizzoner discussed the problem of the Hotel O.  He said he will present an order that declares the hotel a public nuisance to the City Council.  A fence will be erected around the property.

* The summer feeding program served over 700 means to Jackson residents.  The program ended last week.

* The Mayor's Cup gold tournament is August 30.  The Mayor promised he will "perform horribly" because he is a bad golfer. ;-)  The money raised goes to the First Tee program for children.

* A reporter asked about Thalia Mara Hall.  "I believe there was a bit of hair on fire," said the Mayor.  He said the "growth" found was "early-stage microbial growth" and was not mold.  The city is replacing the HVAC system.  Hizzoner said the weekend before the growth was noticed, a malfunction in the HVAC unit occurred.  The malfunction created conditions for the growth.  The HVAC has not been properly working for "quite some time."  The city has been supplementing the HVAC system with chillers for events.

A timeline could not be provided for the remediation process.

Oh Boy! I couldn't sleep at all last night in anticipation of his weekly briefing. Right?

Why pay for a fence? That money needs to go towards the demolition crew! TEAR IT DOWN NOW!

What's the difference between "microbial growth" and mold?

Close the zoo. Can you imagine how miserable those animals are?

With a snazzy catch phrase like "Operation Gas Up and Guns Down", those gas stations are surely going to stop shooting and killing people.

Thalia Mara Hall is doomed!

Do like JPD did back in the 80's. Have undercover officers hide in supply closets and coolers with 12 gauges. After a few "exterminations," the shenanigans at gas stations ceased for the most part.

I would rather undergo a gasoline enema than read the words, "Mayor's presser live streamed below".

Who talks like this insufferable buffoon? Populate the ligho, populate the list, populate my silk-lined pockets. It takes all of five seconds to know exactly where he is going with this week’s charade — it’s mostly Entergy’s fault or “private” light owners (whatever that means), and all the citizens who live in pitch black darkness, please call Entergy first and foremost so we can lift them up as they populate your crime-infested dark streets. OF COURSE he HAS to have some poor woman from Entergy who basically contradicts his phony made up lies by meekly suggesting the city is the most likely culprit and you should probably call them. They probably haven’t paid their Entergy bill since the pandemic but they’ll take your call and get right on it.

This guy is is a straightup charlatan. He must go.

What is Microbial Growth? Microbial growth, often referred to as mildew or mold, is a family of fungi that is commonly found both indoors and outdoors. Microbial growth indoors occurs when there is high humidity or moisture, low sunlight, oxygen, the right temperature, and organic matter present.

Mildew or Mold - Try again Mayor...

"Why pay for a fence? That money needs to go towards the demolition crew! TEAR IT DOWN NOW!"

A fence seems like a reasonable preparation before starting a demolition project, for safety reasons.

Pathetic that Jackson's half-Mayor is relegated to announcing a back-to-school giveaway that is 2+ weeks late. Incompetence is the Lumumba status quo.

@2:16 PM - Combined with a balloon release or two it's bound to be winner, but only if gun shows are abolished. Right?

Chowke: "It's just a perception of mold, right?"

I'm just here for the comments.

Socrates Garrett Mold Mitigation Services, LLC is on it. Right?

It would be comical if it wasn't so darn sad how far The City of Jackson has fallen under this major!

"A fence seems like a reasonable preparation before starting a demolition project, for safety reasons."

Since when does a fence deter anybody in Jackson from exploring and procuring.

Da Mayor has never made a left turn during his time in office. Am I right???

Blah, blah, racism, blah, racism, blah, blah, racism.
Rinse repeat.

August 5 @1:58 pm Mildew ,staphylococcus aureus, pseudomonas are a few. You may not have noticed but Mississippi is hot and HUMID in the summers and add the unusual amount of rain this spring and summer like in the tropics, mold and mildew becomes a near daily fight to control. The climate is changing and we will have to adapt . Unlike our ancestors, we knew it was coming and could have been better prepared. It would have cost much less in tax dollars than all the disaster relief costs have been in the last two years alone.

It's up to the city council and our state representatives to change the laws so that demolishing eye sores is easier. It takes decades to force the owner to demolish his building or house or do more than minimal yard maintenance. Sadly, we love our slumlords in MS and our rich boy absentee owners. Gosh, if you only saw the properties of those that aren't their personal home or the high end hotels or resorts but the property that built their wealth that's in the slums and hidden in shell companies that they own and from which they still collect rent.

Yeah, we all want to save the planet, reduce the conditions causing mold, and save Thalia Mara Hall, but only if we can do it and still have air conditioning.

Mayor Cheap Fake's parsing here of microbial growth versus mold reminds me when he insisted the EPA water order (which he kept completely hidden from the Council and public for a year) wasn't an order yet when it actually was exactly that. Bottom line, Thalia Mara -- no matter how much the charlatan claims otherwise -- has mold.

money greasing hands for fence. Fence tries to "block" yet another failure.

All Citizens of Jackson should go on youtu.be and listen to the comments on It's "Time To Be Brutally Honest". It's a little long but both black and white should listen to what this man has to say.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
