Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is holding his weekly press conference right now. The presser is streamed below.
* Recognized the recent posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom award to Medgar Evers.
* Recognized former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg as a supporter of the city of Jackson, calling him a "friend."
* Announced the city is participating in Economic Development Week. No economic development projects were announced but there a breakfast, luncheon, and tour touting economic development this week were discussed.
* The grass at the cemeteries on Hill Street and Cedar Lawn have been cut.
* WAPT's Ross Adams asked if the new parking meters/kiosks are operational. Mayor Lumumba said there will be a period of adjustment as people get used to having to pay for parking since the meters will now actually work. The new meters went "live" May 1.
* WLBT's Anthony Warren asked about a $2.1 million appropriation for Union Station the Legislature approved last week. An official said the money will be used to repair the building and make it more "robust." JRA will relocate its offices to Union Station. He said the administration will look to make Union Station a "hub of economic activity" as it tries to convince other "partners" to move to the facility. Union Station will also be home to "cooperative incubation."

WTF is "cooperative incubation" supposed to mean?
a "hub of economic activity"...where have we heard that before?
Union Station will also be home to "cooperative incubation." What about "crime free downtown", or "we won't put up with BS from our citizens who want to destroy this city"? Jive Turkey Buzzword Lumumba doesn't care about this city, only his and his people's pockets, and getting a seat on the progressive national stage train.
They are insufferable. “I want to caution you, the mayor had oral surgery 1 or 2 weeks ago and may not be able to ______ (who TF knows).” Lumumba takes the mike and speaks as if that oral surgery was a childhood memory.
He probably had his teeth whitened.
Chowke lie detector:
Were his lips moving?
If Yes - He is lying. Right?
If No - He is getting ready to lie. Right?
No way there is an emptier suit than this mouth breathing fraud.
Since Marcus Wallace has been parking his re-election campaign sign in two parking spaces for well over a year, will he now be forced to pay to park? Inquiring minds want to know- right?
( the white JPD parking cop said he was told to leave Marcus alone and let him park wherever he wanted with no citation)

It means the Mayor's been smoking too much weed.
Sounds like when Obama announced "technology hubs" as saviors for U.S. cities - nobody knew what these "hubs" were supposed to be or exactly how they would be created, but what the heck ...
Economic development is the euphemism for business being brisk at auto tire and body shops.
KF, we might as well have some fun with this. I’m thinking along the lines of a little contest, something like “HOW MANY WAYS CAN LUMUMBA SAY “UNION STATION’S ROBUST VENUE POTENTIAL COULD DIRECTLY IMPACT THE COJ’S ECONOMIC INCUBATOR?”
The winner will submit the most clever response and receive the prize of 2 free parking spots in downtown Jackson.
This is what y’all voted for. Enjoy!
Hol’ up. Nothing on the agenda about the Belhaven hate crime murder?
The grass at the cemeteries on Hill Street and Cedar Lawn have been cut.
When organizational leadership can't move a workforce to perform at even the most basic of levels you tout and herald accomplishments like lawn cutting.
In other remarkable news, Chowke reported that his staff were successful in picking up today's mail.
So Marcus Wallace can now pay to park & write it off on his business expense. The COJ needs the revenue!
No audio?
Thirteen city employees clapping, all of whom should be back at their desks doing productive work...drawing double time for attending. What a crock. What an effing crock!
This whole gang brings total shame and insult to the PERS system. Each of these clapping clowns will be PERS vested in eight years from their 'start' date.
Since Danks left office, THAT has been the primary motivation for the mayoral employment office.
The same with JPS.
...like the convention center...
Thank god I don’t live in a city where someone asks the mayor about economic development and he starts bragging about the lawn being cut
Why aren't his pressers broadcast on The View, or discussed by George Step-on-all-of-us? Those are his people.
A hub of economic activity? Does this mean the city is paying those homeless people?
@3:16, the man is clearly the greatest fraud of a leader and/or mayor in Jackson's history. The administrative dysfunction of the city is across the board and on a massive scale. Good LORD, Stokes now concludes that Wade will only go after the criminal element if, IF, he [Wade] is protected from, ostensibly, Lumumba by an employment contract.
3:08, who is this “y’all” you speak of? From the comments, does it appear to you there are a lot of Antar supporters on this blog?
Uneducated 3:09, we're only 17% of the population. Pull your head out of your ___!
Economic development people in Rankin and Madison counties celebrate another big win each time Lumumba opens his mouth.
@4:14.... 17%? Have you been to Jackson lately? More like 90%
‘y’all’ would be the 70% margin of voters he’ll win the next mayoral election by. Enjoy!
Lubumba has been able to obtain millions of dollars in federal funds to maintain the Jackson water system in addition to getting to get the state of Mississippi to step in and put forth resources to fix it when it was broken. Also, he’s bamboozled the state to provide adequate law enforcement in the CCID all at no expense to Jackson taxpayers. He’s grifted the garbage contract three times now. And now he’s getting Ward Locke and his buddies to cut grass and clean up the city at no expense to Jackson taxpayers. Lubumba continues to play chess w those of you playing checkers.
What 7:56 said. I don't like the man but he is a sly fox.
He knows no mainstream media outlet or journo is going to ever to call him out.
And he knows anyone that tries to point out his incompetency will be deemed a racist.
Sure, intelligent people see through his facade. But those people are few and far between in his kingdom.
He is very good at his game. I will give him that.
I noticed the mayor didn't give an update about how many lifeguards the city has been able to hire so city swimming pools could open for the summer. No doubt, if there was any positive news, he would have provided it by now.
Broadway show at Thalia Mara last night. Great crowd! No A/C!!!
And people wonder why i go to the Saenger to see them
Lyin Lumumba need to be in jail the the way city of Jackson looks.
