Exactly (or even partially) how is this important?
My son, a registered voter going to college out of state, called Hinds County for information on how to vote absentee. They told him they had to mail him an application, which they did, it had to be notarized and mailed back. At that time, they would send him a ballot, again to be notarized, and he would have to mail it back. He couldn't find a free notary but found one that would charge him $5.00 a pop. You can guess what a poor college student decided to do. So much for the state trying to get students engaged in the process.
Hell that is about the same number of people who vote in person.
@9:44
what college? You would think he would have enough sense to go to the county courthouse where notaries are free. Maybe he needs to change colleges
Now hold on. Didn't the right spend the last decade crapping on absentee voting?
And now you are surprised?
If you can't vote in person you shouldn't be allowed to vote unless you are in the hospital, nursing home or military.
Also, USPS (where, presumably, your student must go to mail the ballot) has special "notary authority" sufficient for mail-in ballots.
Your kid would have been out $10 and couldn't make it happen? You couldn't have reimbursed him? Blame the state all you want but it doesn't sound like you and Junior were all that interested in getting it done.
I have never kept up with the breakdowns between absentee and in person. Is the 56k absentee a large number compared to the past?
9:44, you fault the county for following the law? You are probably from the same crew that complains about voter ID.
I think they have a valid point. Why do you need to have the application for an absentee ballot notarized? The county can't compare the signature card against the application and the ballot envelope? It's not like they're getting an enormous amount of absentee ballots especially considering most of those absentee ballots were probably in person at the courthouse prior to the election. Why put such a burden (time and/or money) on an absentee ballot unless you were trying to discourage mail in ballots?
I assume we are supposed to be upset because no ballots were rejected.
56,403 total ballots returned and only 7 rejected (all from Oktibbeha) means that the only circuit clerk doing their job is Tony Rook in Starkville. Thank you Tony!
Please clarify message in "tea leaves". I see humiliating Pressley loss in scatalogical reading of his shit-talk lies.
Oktibbeha County looks to be the only County where anyone is doing any quality control on the ballots being sent in.
Tater tot gonna be unemployed soon
It doesn't matter, as most are crooked but some do better marketing.
I don't like the way these tea leaves are reading, can we check the coffee grounds?
I doubt anyone on this site, including 9:44, sees a problem with obeying the law but most people on this site would follow any bad law off a cliff rather than say it was wrong and needed to be changed. Notarizing the signature on an application? A law probably passed by the Republicans to make it hard to vote absentee. As for 10:14, I guess any land owning, tax paying Republican voter away on business on Election Day should have their vote tossed?
@11:57
soon=4years
Since there's a statewide drought going on, democrats will have easy access to grave markers. You can get to every graveyard in Mississippi during times of dry ground.
Republicans today are like the Post Reconstruction Democrats - they want to make it hard to vote. And for the very same reason - they don't want African Americans voting.
No idea what the final will be, but Heavy Democrat dominate county absentee is way up and heavy Republican dominate counties are down. Presley has gotten his voters out. Tate is favored and Tate should win but Tate has good reason to be nervous. Desoto and the coastal counties and the coastal outlier counties seem to be apathetic to the whole thing. Hinds county is going to be really heavy tomorrow. Presley is doing surprisingly well in Rankin. This could be worth watching.
Proper Republicanism.
Short-term planning. Long-term failure.
I believe in my county the resolutions committee will be responsible for accepting or rejecting absentee and affidavit ballots. That won’t happen until tomorrow. Of course I’ve been wrong before.
@2:00.....What?
2:32, post on here Wednesday and tell us how well Presley did in Rankin. I guarantee you Rankin is not going to support someone who is going to be bought and paid for by the national Democrats. He would have been better off with less money than with all that money everyone knows is going to come with strings attached.
"Republicans today are like the Post Reconstruction Democrats."
Once again, Bill Dees steps up and shamelessly shows his ignorance. There is no such thing as POST reconstruction.
I would explain that, but he's too thick-headed to grasp it.
4:09. Lately there has been an argument Rankin county supports people that may be bought and paid for. Political party has nothing to do with it.
4:10 doesn’t have time to break it down.
He’s far too busy you guys. Just trust him.
If Presley wins, Paul Gallo will hang himself, and Supertalk will file for bankruptcy.
@bill. Did you forget it was the Mississippi democrat party that fought to keep Mr. Higginbotham off the ballot so Brandon would win the nomination. They lost the appeal and won on a technicality? They still don’t let him on the ballot. And having the brandon supporting independent drop out of the race after it was too late to remove her from the ballot is a brilliant strategy to split votes. How much was she paid If anything?
Take more notice of 11:19 and 11:50.
Once again, Bill Dees has pegged my bullshit meter completely. The tired old trope of the parties switching positions is thrown out again. Come up with something new, Dees, you're boring. I would tell you call somebody, but your circle of friends, if you have any, are as dumb as you are.

While there may be some leeway as to the time-frame of "Reconstruction," all definitions of it I have ever seen indicate it ended between the late 1870s (the "Compromise") to about 1900. As such, using terms like "post (after) Reconstruction" is certainly valid. I'd be curious to see the response from the above-quoted troll. And no, I'm not "Bill Dees" or a supporter of his.
If the Black vote turns out, Presley wins in a squeaker. The Bennie Thompson machine needs to be in full swing.
This is a poor state. Most of the big money on both sides comes from donors in other states. No big deal.
During the Obama election I was an Army Contractor at camp Joyce Afghanistan, I vote in Leake County. I never had to vote absentee so I sat up one night so I could call my courthouse & inquire as how to do this. I was told same thing, had to be sent an application, send it back, get ballot & send it back. Two problems here, 1st is I'm 9000 miles away, how long you think it takes for Snail Mail to make two round trips to Afghanistan? Second they DIDN'T EVEN HAVE any applications!
Military was able to vote online but not me.
Yeah I know, it is prolly My Fault that Obama got elected because I didn't get to Vote...
@Bill Dees, you are so right.
Be sure to vote today to make your voice heard before some judge overturns as unconstitutional whatever it was you voted against.
