The city of Brandon will be looking for a new police chief.
The Board of Aldermen fired Police Chief Wayne Dearman after he turned down a request that he resign. No action was taken on Deputy Police Chief Marshall Pack.

Well I'm in the dark. Or just behind. Or just stupid. Why did they fire him?
William Thompson retired Sept 2022
Wayne Dearman took office Oct 2022
From the announcement back then: "Chief Dearman is a native of Leakesville, Mississippi, where he graduated from Greene County High School in 1990. As a Junior there, he joined the Mississippi National Guard. He then spent six years serving with the 890th Engineer Battalion. He began his law enforcement career in 1993 as an officer with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, where he later became a K-9 Officer. During this time, in 1994, he also joined the Leakesville Police Department as a part-time Patrolman. In 2000, Wayne graduated from the Mississippi Highway Patrol Cadet Class 55. During his tenure with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), he served in numerous roles before retiring as a Lieutenant with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) in 2022. These roles included Executive Protection with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, assigned to the Governor and the Mississippi Speaker of the House for six years. Wayne also served as a TAC Officer at the Mississippi Highway Patrol Training Academy, Director of Emergency Operations for DPS, Statewide ESF-13 Coordinator, and MHP Law Enforcement Communications Coordinator"
@9:03. Only one glaring omission in his resume. No leadership time. Never commanded a troop. Not even asst command. Zero experience in Municipal policing.
Now get rid of that liar and thief Pack.
Part of the problem is Troopers are not cops.
KF that’s not part of the problem. It’s the whole problem.
From the outside looking in, it appears that the department turned into a clownshow after dearman took charge.
Especially the crapshow at the Crossgates standoff.
Crossgates - indeed. Amateur hour (management).
Thats a start in the right direction. BPD went downhill fast after Dearman and the other troopers took over. Butch Lee knows his position was on the line if he didn't fire Dearman. There are a lot of good BPD employees that didn't like him. He got an officer killed due to his haste on the Crossgates standoff. He has a history of rushing in when patience would have been better.
Dearman was an excellent chief and his officers both loved and respected him.
@10:13 Are you delusional? How many great officers have come and gone through BPD since Dearman took over? Very few officers have any respect for Dearman or Pack, and their turnover rate since taking office proves it.
Mayor Butch the bully. Mayor Butch has undermined him since he got there.
He removed almost everything from Dearman’s agenda at each meeting and wouldn’t allow funding for projects that Dearman wanted.
It didn’t help that Dearman put into writing that butch is a narcissistic liar. And the Mayor showed that to the board.
Petty garbage. Still functions better than Jackson though.
@10:26. 27 out of 39 sworn officers (not counting Chief and Asst
Chief have left in less than one year. Only 18 new hires. That’s 2/3 of the department in less than a year.
The problem with the BPD is Butch Lee.
Get rid of him and the ship will right itself. They better not promote that asst. chief. He's a reject from the state.
Can't be any worse leadership than what is provided by our mayor.
I think the mayor did the right thing. Mayor Lee has done an outstanding job as Mayor of Brandon. Look how far he has taken them from the condition he found them in when he took over. Night and day difference.
Keep on doing the Lord's work Butch.
Look forward to supporting him in the next Mayor's race.
Dearman gone is only part of the problem. There are two other main problems that now have to be fixed before BPD can start rebuilding. They are both considered admin.

You’re a funny guy!
Remember who hired Dearman in the first place !? He did so with out any input from the Board .
Thompson was not exactly a ball of fire as chief, or anywhere else he ever worked...in my view.
Seems like you have to ask what kind of a job the PD was doing on things like traffic law and domestic violence enforcement under Dearman's command.
Yo Bailey, you're next.
Chief Dearman and assistant Chief Pack told the officers if they did not like what they were doing then dont let the door hit your Ass on the way out. This created a toxic environment as soon as they took over.
There is a another administration level problem that needs to leave or be terminated.
Butch Lee needs to be voted out next year or sooner if the Alderman can vote him out
There is a lot of FB chatter about writing in Pack as the choice for Sheriff. I agree Bailey needs to go, but it's not Pack.
That was by far the worse administration in the history of Brandon PD. Hiring a Highway Patrolman with little to no experience of working at a municipality as CHIEF OF POLICE, is like hiring a CDL 18 wheeler truck driver to be a Pilot of an American airline plane. That plane would surely crash just as surely if it thought it was going to take off. It’s like oil and water, it doesn’t mix. No way you hire a guy with little no Municipality experience over a stack of Chief of Police applicants all with 20 years plus of experience or better in the line of duty. Men and women who have been in the shoes as a regular patrolman for years before moving up the ranks as Sergeants, Lieutenants, Captains, and more. You can’t come in a Municipality with a Highway Patrolman book and think that book will run a municipality, that’s not how it works. You have to come in and go by the book you can’t just do things because, “You did it at Highway Patrol!” You also have to include your chain of command that’s actually working the streets with they their patrol. Get them together and speak with them to get their perspective on the job and input on how they think things should operate and run. This is not Disney World where you make a wish and you create a make believe department to fit your personal standards, to fit the imagination in your brain of how you think a municipality should be run. You have to go by the book. Open that book up and get some Quality people around you. Men and women that have been in the job of a municipality and knows how to coordinate and operate it from front to back.
I hope everything works out for the City of Brandon as well as the Chief who was dismissed. It is easy to point fingers at what is wrong. Try praying for peace!
After the Crossgates standoff clusterf**k, I'm not surprised he's gone. What took them so long to turn him loose?
Bye Felicia
As a life long Rankin County resident, I think Bryan Bailey should get the job. He has brought honor and integrity to our county. It’s time we expand his responsibilities. If he were to control Brandon PD, he could bring his proven expertise. He has proven himself many times over.
What adult calls himself 'Butch'. Or 'Bubba' for that matter. Only in Niknar, where roadside freezers serve as garbage cans.
@2:57, that was such an accurate post! U actually stated complete facts and didn’t insult anyone while doing so. Everything u said was spot on. I’m a retired Trooper and also an 8 1/2 year former Police Officer. I will reiterate what u said, the jobs are completely different. The only similarities are that they both wear badges and a gun belt and drive a car with lights on top. The training itself is even different. I know, because as I pointed out earlier, I’ve been on both sides, which means I’ve been to both academies. I know Wayne well and he is an outstanding man. He was an outstanding Trooper as well. He just wasn’t ready to be a chief at a municipality. I feel like if he would’ve brought in a very seasoned police officer as his assistant chief, he would’ve been fine, as long as he listened to him. MHP is a total S*!¥ show and has been for some time. That has a lot to do with the mass exit of Troopers who have been around a while. When MHP is all u know, then naturally u would bring some of that with u to wherever u land after retirement. Today’s day and age, u can’t lead the way the old school chiefs, or MHP colonels did. It’s a different day and age and a completely different generation of officers. Can’t say a bad word about Wayne, only good things. I can say that he is better off being away from BPD. Hopefully the Mayor hires someone with POLICE experience. Brandon voters might need to consider a change at the top as well.
Dearman and Butch both need to go. Dearman hit the nail on the head when he called Butch an arrogant narcissistic asshole. Butch is controlled by Lou Coker, an Alderman. Lou wants control but doesn't want to be mayor. When Roe Grubbs was mayor and wouldn't do what Lou wanted, he got Butch to run and supported him over Roe to be his yes man. In fact, Lou was overheard bragging about Butch being his yes man. That is common knowledge in a lot of circles in Brandon. Butch has also gotten real cocky. He doesn't want to deal with the common Brandonian unless they have something to bring to the table or an idea that will make them both money, though I am not sure Weir I heard that.
@10:12@2:57 and @8:56 hit the nail on the head. Experience as a trooper does not mean you’re a good leader. Ask officer who left —he was NOT. Ask the officers who helped in the Crossgates standoff —arguing about who’s in charge and wasting time instead of letting those with Swat teams handle what they are trained to handle. His behavior, evasiveness and “answers” at his press conference after the standoff also prove his lack of ability. Absolutely NO leadership and interpersonal skills.
9:30AM
Whoa! I didn’t think Dearman was a good fit as a Chief but his description of Butch was spot on. I wasn’t aware that Lou had so much influence. He is a sorry alderman. As soon as elections are over he disappears. I’m sure Butch is working on a power point presentation that will clear everything up.
Wayne Dearman was a disgrace to the office of Police Chief. He has no skill, no integrity and certainly no honor. He and Asst. Chief Pack are bullies and some of their officers, specifically TD, are also bullies who abuse the power. They are a lawsuit waiting to happen. Well done and thank you to the mayor and alderman who made this decision. Better late than never.
Maybe Dearman and Pack can go work with Rusty Barnes at the Insurance Commissioners office - they can have a contest to see who can have the most negligent discharges in a government building (BTW, Rusty starts with a healthy lead at 3).
The irony in seeing this almost a year later. I turned them both into the AGs office for giving other officer commands to come outside of jurisdiction while on the clock to harass me (X of the assistant chief whom was beaten for years) in hopes I would stop telling people about the abuse and him needing help. They illegally used their power and had me illegally arrested. Not knowing I had it all on camera. Every single encounter. Never indicted as they hoped. Instead, they were asked to resign if not be terminated. The only reason Conley wasn’t terminated was because Pack borrowed and wrecked his new personal truck and absolutely ghosted him and left him high and dry. So much for being his bestie. You can now find Conley selling cars at the Toyota place in Brandon, and Pack giving all the women’s kids hitting lessons at Dbat. Stay tuned, lawsuits still pending.
