It seems there is a wee bit of a spat involving WMPR in the Hinds County District 4 Supervisor's race as a complaint against the radio station was submitted to the IRS.
What precipitated the complaint? Republican candidate Allison Clower Lauderdale suggested holding some meetings of the Hinds County Board of Supervisors in Raymond at the county courthouse (Yes, there is a county courthouse in Raymond.). The suggestion drew some heat as was to be expected.
The complaint focuses on this exchange on WMPR between our old friend Mr. Othor Cain and and Republican Candidate Allison Clower Lauderdale.
The Republican candidate fired back with a statement on social media:
I am writing you a letter here because I know you will receive it and I want the people of Hinds County to know the truth.
This morning, as well as many other mornings, you tried to spread your lies about me, on your radio show, in order to set your agenda. I finally had enough and when I called in to defend myself against your lies, you conveniently and immaturely hung up on me. So much for “The Voice of the People” as well as being a “Community” radio station that you so proudly claim.
Mr. Cain, you said I was “afraid”. Afraid to go into certain neighborhoods and “the people of Hinds County deserve a leader who is not afraid.” You also said that at a Church I said I “wanted to move the meetings to Raymond because Jackson was dangerous.”
All of this could not be further from the truth. And I am setting the record straight now.
I remember that Sunday morning as if it was yesterday. You, Ms. Evers, and Stephanie Foster
Strolled in late and very unexpected.
I spoke to the congregation and explained how I would like a monthly meeting, if not quarterly, to be held at The Raymond Courthouse. The Raymond Courthouse is centrally located in Hinds County. Having a meeting there monthly or quarterly would make it convenient for people who wanted to attend the Supervisor’s meeting and would not have to deal with traffic or the craziness of downtown Jackson. That sir, is what was said. “JACKSON IS DANGEROUS” was never said!
Mr. Cain, let me make this clear. I DO THINK JACKSON IS DANGEROUS, however I did not say that is why I wanted to move a meeting to the Raymond Courthouse. And, sir, I did not say all the meetings, just ONE a monthly or quarterly.
Mr. Cain, what exactly are you basing your accusation of me being afraid of? The ONLY thing I have been afraid of during this campaign, have been the dogs that have been very protective of the houses I was visiting or knocking on doors.
I have visited most neighborhoods in Byram, Clinton, Raymond, and South Jackson by myself and at night. So your accusation is false and unfounded!
Mr. Cain, you have called me a “pathetic typical white girl”, as well as other names and if you don’t think that is racist or hateful then you sir, do not know what racism and hate truly are. I have never mentioned a word about you or my opponent in any derogatory way, and I assure you I will not.
I was encouraged to run for Supervisor, however I did not ask for all of this drama and messiness that seem to surround you and my opponent as well as others.
Mr. Cain, I would appreciate you keeping my name out of your lies and if you can’t do that, then at least allow me the opportunity to defend myself with the truth instead of hanging up on me the way you so childishly did this morning.
Always,
Allison Clower Lauderdale, Hinds County Supervisor, District 4 candidate.
Get the popcorn and (craft) beer, folks. There is probably going to be some more drama in this race before it is all said and done. At least we won't have Vern the Vain to kick around anymore.

Supertalk radio is involved in all day long campaigns for republicans, particularly the governor. This is true of Gallo and Mid Day with Gallo Junior. They load up their guest lists with like minded politicians who stump all day long for the republican party and the evils of democrats.
Oh, but Gallo Junior will tell you 'I don't schedule guests'. That has nothing to do with the facts as stated above. Yesterday's Mid Day guest host is a prime example. Non stop republican stumping, non-paid political advertising.
Attempting to make it legal, he did have David Baria in for twelve minutes stumping for Presley.
This site has written about Supertalk before. Davenport tries to play the same role to same degree as WE does. It goes on on both sides.
Just like we need competitive elections...we need much more competitive media.
Poor Other. He can barely write or speak English.
WMPR is a non-profit? Where’s the 990’s? Would love to see how money the officers make on this “non-profit”
Wanda Evers profile says “owner of WMPR 90.1 Radio”. How do you own a non profit?
Apples and Oranges. Supertalk Radio is commercial whereas WMPR is a publicly funded 501c.
No different than what comes from the pulpit in many churches before political races-- along with "assisting " voting members
Wait, is WMPR a non-profit? I don't think so. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WMPR
Was this supposed to be an FCC complaint or an IRS Complaint?
Filing a complaint was the right thing to do. Its a 501c. Good job to whoever did it.
WMPR is a publicly funded 501c3? Are you sure? That is quite surprising. But like an earlier post said, if they are non profit, where are the 990s?
As a District 4 resident, I was hopeful that Allison could slip in unnoticed and maybe win because there is nothing else in District 4 that will get voters to the polls. So much for sneaking in. Why poke a bear when you are down 40/60 right out of the gate?
This is like who’s on first? FCC rules and IRS rules are two different animals. And clearly nobody on this blog has any clue if WMPR is non profit or not, despite opining on the matter anyway.
If Wanda win that means Othor Cain will be back in Hinds County. The last time he was there, he was with Tyrone Lewis and totally disrespected everyone including Captain Dan.
Dat damn he is a goober.....
Jackson is dangerous and Othor Cain is a clown.
WMPR is licensed as a non commercial educational station through the J.C. Maxwell Broadcasting Group, Inc. They can't sell advertising, but have "underwriters" and donors, same as Mississippi Public Broadcasting and WJSU. Lots of tax advantages, compared to a commercial broadcast station.
WMPR is licensed as a non commercial educational broadcast station, same as Mississippi Public Broadcasting and Jackson State University station WJSU. Lots of tax advantages, but they can't legally sell advertising. They have donors and "underwriters".
Lauderdale has totally been bated and sucked in. WMPR is a station for democrats by democrats. Why is she even giving them this time of day. She has been controlled by rumors the entire campaign.
For the apples and oranges peddler at 3:28.
The Fairness Doctrine related to FCC rules mandates that no legally qualified candidate for office is unfairly given less access to the airwaves – outside of bona fide news exemptions – than their opponent.
It's obvious that the host's weak attempt at flying under the radar by having Baria on for a few minutes did not meet the legal requirement. Nor does Girard's three hour stumping for Reeves every day...for example serving as an employee/host of the medium yet claiming ad infinitum that he has thrown fundraisers for Reeves and supports his candidacy for re-election and his poorly disguised denigration of Presley.
WYAB does the same as Supertalk.
Only difference is that station is not a state wide network.
Clay Edwards & Kim Wade promote political candidates every day.
WMPR is a different beast.
3:04 PM It was really mean and it hurt my feelings for you to call him Gallo Junior. He has a name you know. He built up a highly successful with his bare hands from scratch and then sold it and does a radio show as a public service.
@ 7:23 PM -- I think the point was that WMPR shouldn't be stumping for anyone.
meant WMPR does. I do get tired of autocorrect.
7:43 - Public service my ass. He's an egomaniac who insists on having a voice. Smartest man in the room syndrome to the 10th power. Never worked a day in his life. King of boards. His business was sold out from under him by the board of directors and stockholders.
Sounds like she set him straight to me. Now, let’s talk about the waste and mismanagement of funds by Hinds County. 1. The county had to shut down the Dept of Human Services on Medgar Evers which was a very modern Building at one time, but you have to pull maintenance on it and that didn’t occur. 2. The maintenance shop for Hinds County in Raymond cannot Pay It’s bills therefore the vehicles and equipment are in a state of either non working or much needed repairs need to be made. 3. We are the highest taxed county in the state and we nothing to show for it.
Just a little info.
J.C. Maxwell Broadcasting Group gathered funding and established WMPR IN Jackson. James Charles Evers became the general manager way back when. Majority ownership remains in the Evers family with Wanda Evers.
It was originally an NPR member station until 1986.
Checking sec of state website:
J C Maxwell Broadcasting Group is in good standing, at 1034 Pecan Circle, Jackson. Wanda Evers is the registered agent, Director, and President.
From filed forms:

Wanda Evers say she will audit Hinds County when she win, especially Hope Credit Union 3 million dollars.
Well it looks WMPR will be receiving an audit as well.
For gawd's sake 5:06 AM.
Sounds like you're mad because he didn't read your text "on air".
Mr. Gibert's success is the epitome of the American dream.
His hard work got him to where he is today.
(The same can be said about Steve Davenport).
Wow, Othor. I do like you, but you do speak out of both sides. You didn't think wipepo was listening? Mrs. Lauderdale called you out.
