The Oxford Police Department issued the following statement and mug shots.

The damage to repair and replace was approximately $4,700, which included both the fountain structure and plumbing. After investigation, Abigail Fuqua, 19, of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Madison Brown, 18, of Davidson, North Carolina were arrested and each charged with felony Malicious Mischief.Fuqua (No relation to Frenchie) |
Brown |
Fuqua and Brown were each taken before a Municipal Court judge for their initial bond hearing and each issued a $5,000 bond. We appreciate everyone’s help in identifying these two individuals.

Well, hopefully they got Stupid 101 out of the way. Felony charges will be reduced to misdemeanor malicious mischief with fine, cost of repair and maybe Community Service.
Do I detect an attitude in their mug shot? Will mommie and daddy bail them out?
I love me some Carolina girls. Prettiest and sweetest girls in the South are in Charleston, SC.
2:59, I kind of felt that too.
It's hard to believe that 2 humans could be that stupid. Yet there is the video. Dumbassery at its finest.

I'm assuming they self surrendered. Should have take a page from Cat Cora's playbook and gotten a makeover before the mugshot. https://www.tmz.com/2012/07/11/cat-cora-mug-shot-well-done-celebrity-chef-iron-chef-food-network-dui/
I thought in earlier photo one of them looked to be an adult. I see now they are both children.
I've seen these balls, floating on a jet of water, at multiple other venues over the years and had no idea you could just push them off onto the ground.
At least they didn't hang a noose in a tree and get the national media down here again.
Kingfish, I see what you did under the first mugshot.
What they did was stupid.
Had most of us been charged with the stupid things we've done in life....wellll.
Let the the chips fall where they may.
Knew they weren’t from the ‘Sip
What about the guy? He stood by and watched, then followed them. It seems like they were together.
It's a ball. Kids play with balls. It fell and it scared them. Innocent mistake. Give 'em a break.
We watch vids every day of folks robbing luxury stores in broad daylight with no consequence as security guards and employees watch and you think the guy who watched his friends damage a ball of concrete should be arrested?
I am not advocating for the smash and grabs.
But there should be some equal application of laws?
355pm...not the same type of ball. The ones you speak of are granite (not solid granite mind you). They core out shafts to even out the density of the piece of granite to get it to float on the eddy like that. They come in all sizes, but can't be pushed off easily. One that size would weigh damn near 1000lbs....but would float. I had one made once. It's sitting in the golden moon lobby.
Not trying to be a smart a@@ or stir up the comments but I’m curious if they are Ole Miss students?

From the looks of them, I can assure you that those two do not say "Daddy". It'll be "Dyaaaaaaaad": as shrill and grating and chainsaw-like as they can make it.
Will there be charges for the person who spent that much money on such a terrible fountain?
The young women's innate architectural taste caused them to improve the "pocket". What an inappropriate, clumsy sculptural oddity. So wrong for that location
Kappa kappa gamma must be proud
OF COURSE they are from out-of-state.
I'll just assume from their hometowns that they were not able to get into UVA or UNC.
Hey 5:14 - what you speak of is happening in cities where DA's let "small" crimes slide like wrecking public balls of granite. Since these two have been charged and will likely face some consequences, the likelihood of smash and grabs happening in Oxford is just about nil.
Broken window policing works.
Equal application of the law? We live in the US, where that no longer exists.
Too bad it didn't crush their stupid feet...
I am just baffled. Regardless of whether the park design was poor or not, the urge to vandalize it for seemingly no reason confuses me. Oxford has become a conglomerate of young adults who were not raised properly. The skimpy halloween costumes I saw yesterday are a great example.
Seems as if about a third of the comments actually seem to excuse this behavior because 'the ball and fountain are tacky in the first place'. That's almost as insane as the vandalism.
Mississippi College has a ball next to Jennings Hall.
I'm surprised the name Fuqua doesn't seem to ring a bell with anyone.
I suspect both girls were very sheltered and probably went to an all girls boarding school (maybe the same one) when high school became " too hard". They likely are not the brightest members of their families or they'd have gotten easily into the best universities/colleges on the East Coast including the Seven Sisters.
They likely just wondered how the the ball" worked as it seemed like "magic" to them.
The "look" some of you don't like is pretty typical of the " confused dumb rich girl" who has no clue what is going on and why people aren't taking care of her. They are likely used to staff feeling sorry for the " disappointing" underachiever of the family and being " taken advantage of" by poor boys looking for money.
There are enough such girls in every town and city on the east coast that has a prominent family with a daughter who doesn't inherit the " smart genes". Indeed, there's a former nationally prominent GOP politician you all likely loved who married one for her money despite the family attempting to prevent it.
To 8:34 - the native Oxonians have sold their soul to the devil for the almighty $$$$, and this is the result. They have totally lost control of what was once a charming town, all in the name of “progress”.
10:40, I have to wonder how long it's been, since you've been out in the actual real world. Frankly, I'm wondering whether you've ever been exposed to much, other than to TV soap operas and RomCom movies.
And you sure haven't sat in Saint Andrews' carpool lanes, as I have. I can't elaborate. But certain kinds of looks come to be recognizable, to anyone with well-developed Pattern Recognition.
Your overuse of quotation marks, tells me something else.
It is said that a rising tide lifts all boats. The girls in this story look to be from the kind of boats which got lifted, in spite of their having been below par craft. And those boats would not seem, to me, to have been lifted very far. Something would have been done about the girls' hair. They would not be be wearing outlet mall clothing. There is clearly not much money backing them. And they are probably not 'FFV' (First Families of Virginia), or from First Families of ANYTHING.
Ole Miss has been plagued, for generations, with unintelligent/unwealthy/unpedigreed imposters, who (or whose parents) expect to pass themselves off as being more than they actually are. All too frequently, the imposters succeed. Sometimes, though, they reveal what they really are, a little too soon.
I see no evidence that the young man walking around has any relationship to or with the two hoagie-chompers.
4:30 is a hoot among hoots. She sounds like a Saturday Night Live skit in prose. The very idea of suggesting Oxford and its college are underpinned by intelligent, wealthy, pedigreed royalty.
4:30's boat was in dry-dock for hull-repair when all others got lifted.
4:30 had me rolling on the floor. Never in life has there been a more "Ole Miss" statement than this...
"Ole Miss has been plagued, for generations, with unintelligent/unwealthy/unpedigreed imposters, who (or whose parents) expect to pass themselves off as being more than they actually are. From an outsider (and someone who graduated from an actual top 10 academic institution), it is hilarious that Ole Miss people think so highly of themselves and their school... literally no one else does. I certainly was not prepared for the Ole Miss cultism when moving here. I find it amusing and disturbing at the same time.
9:06AM, you seem capable of neither reading nor reasoning.
Within the statement that Ole Miss is plagued with imposters, there is no implied assumption that the institution is ALSO blessed with an abundance of the genuine article.
There is no implication that the school is "underpinned by" intelligent, wealthy, pedigreed royalty.
As for my family's boat having been in Dry Dock for repair, you may be right. But my concept of 'Dry Dock' is that it is a sort of pontoon, which would inherently lift the craft within it, above even the highest tide. Wouldn't that place our boat ABOVE most others?
You aren't even a competent hurler of insults.
1:47 hit the nail on the head. No one takes the delusions of grandeur of the Ole Miss faithful serious, except them. The posturing for pretentiousness is also hilarious. HYDR!
