Water Pressure Holds Steady in Jackson

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is briefing the media right now on the Jackson water crisis.  The pressure is streamed live below.

*  Mayor Lumumba thanked the out of state teams assisting the repair of the water treatment plants.  He stressed the bench of qualified help in Mississippi is rather short.

* The Mayor said the system will fail again if permanent fixes are not put in place.

* He just said "I want to speak to another issue of unity, not division."  Here we go.  He likened the division to strife in the middle of a war.  He said he has "consistently avoided opportunities to take shots."  He apparently took issue with the Governor's statements on Jackson's finances.

Well, Mayor, it wasn't the Governor who lied about O.B. Curtis being old and "aging" as you put it. It wasn't the Governor who blamed the water problems on climate change or disinvestment from the city.

Frankly Mayor, the Governor probably wasn't addressing you yesterday but the stories put further by the national media.  The Governor has every right to respond to false claims made by the national press as well as so-called local activists who suddenly get a national microphone.

* The Mayor said there have been several plans put forth about the Jackson water treatment system.  He is apparently disputing Congressman Bennie Thompson's claims the Mayor did not provide a plan to his office so he could seek federal funding.

Note to Mayor: All these plans you are thumbing through.  You said you knew "the media would file public records requests for them."  Here is an idea: Why don't you just post them on the city website.  Makes you look good.

* The Mayor read a February 2021 letter addressed to the Governor.  The Mayor asked for $47 million in the letter to help fix Jackson's water plants.

The Mayor and his supporters like to say the legislature only provided $3 million in response to the request.  Well, not so fast, my friend.  The legislature saw you were getting federal funds.  It approved the $3 million that combined with the federal funding gave you the $47 million.

* Well, well, well, the Mayor confirmed what JJ reported yesterday.  He said he was talking to a private management company to operate the plant but it stopped talking to Jackson because it started talking to the state.  Well, yes and no.  That did happen but a source said the company didn't think the city could pay for the service so it started talking to the state.

Mayor's statement on Water Crisis

The O.B. Curtis Water Plant remained at a steady pressure over the past 24 hours and is currently working at 86 PSI. The margin of storage that was built over the weekend has decreased some over the past 24 hours. We have maintained stable storage in the clear wells at the plant. However, we haven’t been able to push as much into the overhead tanks as preferred. We are currently producing stable pressure, but if a challenge arises with plant operation today it will likely impact customers.

We do currently have water in all storage tanks, but the Suncrest Tank is at a lower level than preferred. All of Jackson should have pressure and most are now experiencing normal pressure.

If you are experiencing discolored water or no pressure please report using this tool https://arcg.is/0LDmjb. This will allow us to track any remaining issues and address them. We are currently monitoring this information to respond as needed.

Significant progress was made in restoring the solids treatment process yesterday. Progress was also made validating and calibrating lab and monitoring equipment.

Work continues in the plant today on both the membrane and conventional systems with city staff and mutual aid teams from Mississippi and Georgia rural water associations. The focus today is on continuing to restore the sludge plant to full operation to remove sediment from conventional treatment process. Work also continues to improve plant process controls.

Investigative sampling has begun today to get an indication of water quality. This is to determine when sampling can begin to clear the boil water notice. This is contingent upon sustained pressure. We will need two rounds of clear samples to be able to remove the boil water notice.

Citizens just have to laugh at the administration. We have been lied to, hidden from facts and plainly ignored by this mayoral administration when they simply can't be bothered to be open and truthful about the state of the water system and their actions relative to.

We couldn't even get releases like this until 3 days after a boil water notice and no releases or updates thereto.

Now, the State comes in and takes action and the city jumps up and is trying to pre-empt the State's press conferences like they are "on the job."

This is just sad.

There are way to many "we" listings in this press release. Should do find and replace to take out "we" and insert "the State."

Bobby Boucheaux for Mayor.

Jackson leadership, past and present, are the sole people at fault for everything that has happened\is happening. Plain and simple. This isn't news, it has been happening for decades.

He is laying the groundwork for his BILLION DOLLAR windfall from the Xiden administration.

Once again Lumumba thinks sending a letter or table napkin with a dollar amount included is sufficient to receive funding. He just doesn't get it.

Anonymous said...

He will get away with it and no one will care about the truth

Biden is going to send Jackson a billion dollars? NOPE.

Choky sure is animated today, right.

Maybe the national news media is finally waking up and realizing they’ve been given the Jussie Smolett treatment from Mayor Choke?

When you lose uncle Bennie you might as well pack it up and look for new employment. Godfather Bennie T is gonna find a replacement for this clown if he’s dumb enough to run for re-election.

The Wall Street Journal's main editorial today addresses the politics of Jackson's crisis. I'd say it is fairly accurate.
Even considering the source, it's fairly accurate.

We need a receivership. Little doubt remains.

Just have Joey reroute some of that money going to Ukraine and send it to Jackson. Both are a waste but Mississippi is what’s hot right now in the news.

Ok so the Mayor just held a presser & yet again said privatizing the COJ would cost taxpayers additional $$. And your point is in while not collecting fees from citizens and or running up legal fees to fight your inadequate ability to run the COJ doesn’t cost taxpayers more money. Amazing that simple math taught to us in elementary school does not Apply to Your Bookkeeping Chokwe! RESIGN Immediately and save the city

The pic of Lumumba in the still of the video in this post is poetic. Caption opportunities are endless. I'll start:

That look when you realize the gig is up?

When you finally realize no one is buying your BS?

Endless I say. Endless.

I didn't hear if reporters asked why the mayor is just now providing so-called plans for repairing the water system - if indeed a plan has existed for several years, why not provide it to the congressman & governor when they first asked for it months if not years ago? Why just now?

Anonymous said...

Will someone please ask him how costly it is to have cop sitting across the street from his residence each night?

How are you coming on replacing the water meters and fixing the billing system, Mayor?

Antar has spoken. I counted 41 RIGHTS as he mentioned a letter to the governor and a few photos and documents to say “LOOK AT ALL THIS WORK I’VE DONE.” He flailed around an awful lot and appeared to be swatting at a swarm of gnats.

This much was clear — “if the state is in talks with the same people I’ve been in talks with, then we’re on all on the same page, so I don’t understand why the state won’t just let me do it?!?!”

He’s like a child who can’t take NO for an answer. Which just happens to be one reason why the grownups want him to shut up, go to his room, and break little child toys.

“consistently avoided opportunities to take shots.”, the mayor is fully aware of the news media doing the heavy lifting for him. No need to dirty his soft little hands with politics.

His advisers are much better equipped to handle the optics of politics, but are useless when needed for guidance on operating the city.

I'm no Tate apologist, nor Lumumba fan, but the mayor, with help from the news media, is using the black, white dynamics to his advantage.

While in the real world results, that means correcting the problem, the governor is running circles around the mayor. At least, that's the way it looks to me.

Do not be deceived, the radical mayor is at war with the governor. What we have up till now are skirmishes. The winner will be decided by the final arrangement of the water governing decision.

I hope, for the citizens of Jackson's benefit, and the state, that sanity prevails.

Be sure and report any issue you’re having. The city will get right to you.🥴

“It’s not if but when the system will fail again,” he says for the 99th time. Chumpwe, we know exactly when it will fail again and that’s the minute your grubby little hands touch the controls. And fuck you double for trying to insinuate that the Herculean effort to clean up your mess is a “stop gap effort.” Matter of fact, do us a big one and go lick your wounds in private.

Anonymous said...

Okay. It’s official. He is the village fucking idiot, a bona fide public spectacle. “How was so much progress made in a week? Professionals were finally brought in.” That is so painfully dumb it almost hurts.

Does anyone care what this fool has to say? Nothing that comes out of his mouth is news worthy. This is the first time he has admitted any fault albeit, not his. When is his run up? I dont live in Jackson, but I am employed in Jackson.. The city has gotten more and more vacant since Covid.

Anonymous said...

Can the Legislature suspend Jackson's charter and have DFA run the place from the WorldCom building?

Anonymous said...

The solution is simple. It’s called a budget. Give the Mayor King $2m a year to handle his politics and hire 5 special assistants with PHDs to handle the media and special appearances at liberal colleges and progressive media interviews. No need to handle ribbon cuttings since no new business will come to Jackson. Give the 5 a budget each of $200k for a salary and expenses. The Mayor King can keep the rest. Then hire a competent City Manager with successful experience to run the daily operation (approval by City Council and Governor Tate) save millions of dollars to be used for basic services. Governor Tate is meant as a joke but that would be a good plan.

One of the things I learned too late in life is that you can't deal with a dishonest person. They don't intend to be honorable or ethical, much less truthful. That's the situation we have with this mayor.

I listened to Shortwave LaMumbles and was struck by how many times he claimed that he hadn’t cast any aspersions, that he’s been open and rarin’ to go all along and that he would never say anything derogatory about the guv. Oddly, every time he made such a statement, it would end with a backhanded swipe at everyone else.

He’s passive aggressive. A child. “The Boy Who Would Be Mayor”.

I called it weeks ago. Lumumba is putting on an old fashioned minstrel show. It was effective since the media was bamboozled.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully the legislature, including the Jackson delegation, is locking and loading to geld Antar.

Anonymous said...

The media has not been 'bamboozled'. The fact is THIS: The media, cumulatively, has a set narrative about every subject. For the past twenty years that's been apparent. The media has the facts and goes about the task of searching for theories and lies to match up with its version of the facts. Then they present it for the low information crowd.

Chokwe has not tricked them into falling for his bullshit. Quite the contrary. His bullshit has fit their narrative. So, it's a matter of which is the spider and which is the web. And, who among the plebes will buy the narrative.

Fact is, Chockwe is the spider who has fallen right into the media's pre-ordained narrative. And while he gets some degree of sympathy and lots of attention, the media gets what they always get...validation of a false narrative.

Now I only expect about 19% of you to understand this, but that's OK.

4:11 PM, why should they go to all of that expense. Just vote the fool out. Everyone should be able to see he does not know anything about anything except talking and blaming others. How many months this year has Jackson been on a boil watrer notice or not even a drop of water? In just a week that has all changed and still he complains.

Anonymous said...

I'm just wondering why you even bother to mention what Lumumba might be saying about this. The man is ground-zero for the crisis, the State has stabilized things, and Lumumba had nothing to do with dealing with the problem. Lumumba is the man standing outside the house waving his arms and asking to be let in. He has been busy with nothing but damage control for himself. The man has nothing useful or important to say on any substantive issues that has not already been said by the people in charge of actually digging him out of the mess he created.

Anonymous said...

For those who haven't already figured it out...

The national media is using this story to gin up hate among blacks. It's their only hope of getting blacks out to vote in the upcoming midterms. Listen to Biden's angry, hate-filled speech and you'll hear more of this effort.

It doesn't matter that it's all a lie.

All that matters is that it provokes emotion. Hate is a powerful emotion.

The clock is running on the mayor's money grab. Biden and the media will have no use for him after the November election.

How can Chokwe give a briefing on what is going on with the water plant. He is not in on any part of it. All he can do is listen when the people doing the work and making the decisions give a briefing. He don't know what work they are doing. He doesn't know what the plan is. He doesn't know anything that he does not get from the briefing of others. We know as much or more than he does.

News stations, I also hold you accountable for creating false narratives in allowing The Mayor to continue spewing racism along with the Democratic Party as well! Everyone in the State knows Governor Reeves is NOT the Mayor of Jackson, nor is he Responsible for Running the city. Remember back in 2016 when the Mayor of. Greenville got on the news telling about a church on Clay Street being burned down by Trump supporters before the fire marshal had performed the investigation. Fast forward it was a church member from that very church who burned it down after people from all over donated upward of approximately $250,000. Also FBC Greenville allowed the congregation to use their church while Hopewell MissionRy Baptist Church was rebuilt! Fellow Mississippians love one another and race, nor politics has ONE THING to do with water crisis or the flow of water. Obviously you missed Science Class in all of the equations involving this crisis and who, what and how it happened and will continue as long as the current administration is in charge! Blaming as opposed to implementing work plans that have occurred in the past week is a fine example as Andy Griffith would say.

2:51 Antar Lumumba is the biggest one-trick pony I’ve ever seen. If Antar owns a deck of cards, I guarantee you 51 of them are missing. The race card is his only play, the only trick up his sleeve. Fits him to a T. It’s the easy way out for a lazy person and it comes with a ready-made audience for an insecure person in need of an ego boost. Antar blows hot air because he desperately needs the smokescreen it creates. Fan it away and there’s nothing there. He will go down squeezing every last drop out of that one card he holds.

I have NEVER voted for this current Mayor and I'm about now so sick of him, it's ridiculous! The COJ hardly turned out at all to vote him back in, but he got back in, due to the LOW/NO votes! Jackson, MS, DO BETTER! I'm NO Tate fan, but now that Rep. John Horne has come out and said what Tate has said, A PLAN IS NEEDED Mayor Lumumba! You will NO LONGER have funds thrown at this city, unfettered and controlled by YOU, because YOU have proven to not be a trusted entity in leading the cause to get the COJ's infrastructure to a point of some decency for its citizens. You talk, that's what you do, talk. Be radical enough to come up with a plan to submit to those who want to help this city. Today on WJTV, his interview stated only what's been wrong and how things are going now, NOT ONE mention of a plan on how this will be taken care of, moving forward and prevention. Citizens of Jackson, MS, lets stop these uneducated voters in their tracks and vote in a viable candidate for office. We need a candidate for ALL people.

Anyone who says "Right?" repeatedly is only attempting to sound convincing but in all honesty sounds nothing but trying to conceal their deceit

WSJ gave a factual account of the State's rescue of Jackson's water debacle, the Mayor's fairy tales notwithstanding.

Lil Choke's letters to the Governor, Senators, and Bennie T were not plans. They were cost engineered line items to justify sending the mayor a fat check for his disbursement without controls.

In fact, the mayor was still breaking the water system by his own neglect and ineptitude even as he wanted money to fix it

I am so sick of Antar I could scream. This little performance is about as pitiful and groveling as it gets. He’s waving around the City’s 2019 Strategic Capitol Improvement Plan, EPA’s conclusions, an incomplete draft assessment from yet another Kellogg- backed study, and an 18 month old letter to the governor and calling it the plan. He’d should’ve just cried and wailed, “Bennie, I promise, brother, I’d never lie to you, esp not to your face. I’ve dusted off all this old work other people did just for you, Bennie.

If there was a “Who Can Do Less With More” competition, he’d take gold, silver, and bronze. He’s got a sum total of NOTHING to show for all the “team members he’s brought to the table,” the “coalition of the willing” he’s assembled, and the various years old, still underway studies he “commissioned.”

He’s pathetic.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required.
