Jackson Water Crisis Update

Water production at the O.B. Curtis plant continue to improve as a team of experts continue to fix the long-neglected facility.   The plant produced 25 million gallons of water yesterday, half of its 50 million gallon capacity.  The Fewell plant produced 27 million gallons yesterday.  Pressure was at 87 PSI.

The daily MEMA command incident reports show a long list of repairs and replacements of parts made.  However, the pros from Dover are on the ground and making things happen.

City of Jackson statement

The O.B. Curtis Water Plant remained at a steady pressure over the past 24 hours and is currently working at 87 PSI. Pressure should be stable throughout city.

Overall, water production continues to improve. Yesterday, the O.B. Curtis membrane plant increased from 14.1 million gallons to 15.4 million gallons. The conventional side remained steady. This is the type of capacity increase the team has been working toward.

Yesterday, the cleaning of conventional sedimentation basin #3 was completed and that basin has been returned to service today. Conventional sedimentation basin #2 has been taken offline for cleaning and sediment removal today. The Ammonia water feed line was restored yesterday. This will significantly improve water quality over the next three days. The repaired raw water pump is expected to arrive today. Work will begin tomorrow to place the raw water pump back in service.

Investigative sampling will continue today to monitor water quality. At this time the distribution system is not ready for full sampling to clear the boil water notice. We will continue to evaluate when full sampling can begin. This is contingent upon sustained pressure. We will need two rounds of clear samples to be able to remove the boil water notice.

If you are experiencing discolored water or no pressure please report using this tool https://arcg.is/0LDmjb. This will allow us to track any remaining issues and address them. We are currently monitoring this information to respond as needed.

Kingfish, you said the 3 key words............."team of experts".

Why do they keep saying impacted by recent flooding? The plant has been down many times before the flood. Besides it is a water plant. It should be water proof.

Water has been coming up through Pearl street downtown all week. I wonder how many leaks are springing up all over Jackson with the increased pressure?

11:08- that's the magic word that does wonders - its what Lumumba uses to cover up for his years of ignoring the needs, bankrupting the system, and refusing to fund necessary staff; its also the word that Lumumba can repeat to the national media who fawn over him and his blaming whity for all our problems; but more importantly, it is the magic word that backed Biden into answering 'disaster declaration request' and therefore floods the plant with federal dollars (otherwise, the state would have to fund these repairs as part of taking over the system.)

@11:13 AM - The mayor will soon be announcing that those water leaks are being caused by the current freezing temperatures, or climate change, or floods, or locusts, or gun shows, or "open carry," or MAGA republicans, or white flight, or Jim Crow laws, or racism, or ...

I wonder how many leaks are springing up all over Jackson with the increased pressure?

Lumumba had directed the plant to provide water at a lower overall system pressure in order to reduce the potential for system leaks. He was right-sizing the pressure to meet the 'fragile' condition of the distribution system.

Doubt Jackson's megalomaniac Mayor would say that?

@11:31, you forgot the semi-fascists.

Anonymous said...

Lumumba OUT!!! I thought people in NE Jackson we’re going to buy billboards asking the mayor to resign
Or was this simply due to there white guilt and called racist?

Anonymous said...

@11:08 I agree that the flooding is not the issue. The plant did not flood.

However, water plants aren't "waterproof". You would not want one to flood.

@11:45
Funny how the mayor demonizes whites yet he would never allow NE Jackson area of Eastover Sheffield waterstone meadowbrook heights etc to leave for flowood. See he knows he needs whites especially in those areas with high tax payer dollars. So he does know the piggy bank yet publicly denies whites are needed

According to a person who worked at the water plant years ago, the weather caused a shutdown of pumps at the water plant. When they got the pumps back on line they increased the output pressure of the pumps. They forgot they had increased the pressure and a little later pipes were springing leaks all over Jackson.

The libraries and the zoo should be taken over next.

The incident report reads like a 100 dumpster fires.

The condition OBC was in should be treated as criminal negligence and everyone involved starting with Boy Chok should be arrested.

A Complete state takeover of the City of Jackson and removal of Boy Chok is in order.

Something in all of these blog threads (subjects) is missing. I finally figured it out....Where the hell is Kenny Stokes?

We did manage to hear Senator Horne yesterday on Supertalk proclaim that racism does play a role. Floating turds are no respecter of race.

Anonymous said...

The City Council just voted unanimously to spend every dime of remaining ARPA funds on water/sewer infrastructure. Kenneth Stokes made the motion and said we can’t keep ignoring advice from state/feds and continue to their handouts. That
means $0 thrown away on Antar’s Soul City Farish Street and $0 for the purchase of Batte Furniture bldg for the Tisdale Library. Antar wanted a new building. Foote said we have no business buying more buildings when we don’t take care of the ones we have.

FINALLY. Stuff it down Antar’s throat.

@1:12 - 'According to sources', how does the weather cause a shut-down of the pumps? Hot, cold, windy, barometric pressure, humidity, cloudy? Asking for somebody who used to follow this conversation but gave up.

Anonymous said...

1:12 - close, but no cigar.

Yes, the rain caused problems with the water that entered the plant (due to the plant not having been maintained and the testing equipment that would have told them what was coming hasn't worked for years, but we digress) and the had to get the untreated water out. And it overwhelmed the pumps that were in place - which were auxillary pumps - because a month earlier the main pumps failed and had not been repaired or replaced. The auxillary pumps were much smaller and they could not handle the load of the bad water, so they had to shut them down temporarily to get rid of the 10 million gallons of untreated water.

Nobody 'forgot' about the increased pressure - and that is just a red herring being drug across Jackson's potholed streets to screw the scent up for the media that is investigating this mess. Oh wait, there is no media actually doing any investigation, so I guess Lumumba threw that red herring out just because he didn't want to talk about the problems he created.

The pumps failing a month before the flood was the problem. The 'flood' in the reservoir did create problems because the plant was working with smaller, auxillary pumps - because the city did not do anything about getting the main pumps fixed.

The system operating pressure of 87psi hasn't caused pipes all over the city to rupture as our honorable Mayor has now suggested. And the state team operating the system got the pressure back up without the main pumps being installed - using a rented pump as an addition (something the Mayor and his administration either didn't consider doing or didn't give a damn about the city and its residents and didn't bother to install a rental. Its no doubt that the city knows how to rent pumps - they have been renting multiple sewer bypass pumps for years!)

The biggest detriment to the future of Jackson is Chokwe Antar Lumumba. His excuses for inaction — past, present, and future — have suffocated us. He’s been absolutely atrocious.

I don’t believe a word the city puts out about this crisis. The Gov. Is not my favorite, but I do find that his honor is impeccable. I do trust him and trust what he says is true.

Anonymous said...

This city has failed on so many levels that it shows incompetency as its method of operation of day to day activities. How in the world did it get to this? Danks was in office when the O B Curtis plant was built. So, how can they blame him or Ditto for its troubles? The water system was run perfectly fine with them but when Harvey Johnson became mayor THAT’S when the neglect started occurring. How can anyone say this is because of white flight or the white population when clearly there was nothing done positive with any of the black mayors? I’m just stating the facts.

Zoo needs to be rescued? The mayor already had that reopened before practical people could move it out of West Jxn blight to Northeast Jxn near Lakeland ballpark?

I just want to say to all the Antar critics in the above comments, we agree.

We did manage to hear Senator Horne yesterday on Supertalk proclaim that racism does play a role.

Horhn will have to tread very carefully with that rhetoric considering the composition of his district post-redistricting. All those soundbites will come back to haunt him next year.

Writing on the wall. Purge is underway. Only a matter of time now before one of the troopers frags Omari. Sho-nuff.

Anonymous said...

What happened to Richards Disposal and free flowing poo? Im curious with all the smoke and mirrors going on currently.

Anonymous said...

There is still a Zoo? Like a real zoo you can visit? When you don't have clean and reliable water? How much does the City pay for that each year?

3:04 PM,I wasn't talking about the latest fubar. This happened several years ago.
Didn't anyone working at the water plant notice it was raining almost every day? They should have walked outside and looked up. If they had been working there for any time they should have known what a large rise in the lake level would do.
And true, they did not forget they had increased the pressure on the pumps. The person who had increased the pressure was not working there any longer and no one who was working there even knew it was possible to change the pressure output.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully this team has performed an assessment of Fewell. I would suspect the incompetent management effects aren't confined to Curtis.

Anonymous said...

2:56 PM,the weather does not shut down the pumps. The people working there do not know what they are doing and Boy Chok, I like that name, has to come up with some cause rather than telling the truth.
Just like 48" underground pipes do not freeze up here in Ms. It is all just blame passing. Or maybe they are telling Boy Chok those tall tales and he isn't smart enough to know any better.

I get a kick out of the liberal White folks that start their posts
with "I don't like Tate, but he did fix the water ... "

Anonymous said...

I am not Tate fan, but I agree with 3:13 that I trust him.
And the reason that I feel he is trustworthy is largely due to the fact that any minor slip up he makes will be on CNN.
Chuckles could burn down a fully occupied orphanage and murder 60 puppies on camera and the media would say he razed an old building and implemented a new money saving animal control policy.

The reason Antard lies and Tate doesn't (as much) is accountability.

The voters and libturd journos enable and champion minority ineptitude.
The impoverished and uneducated deserve better.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
