Madison County Elections

We got us some elections in a couple of weeks.  Consider this post to be an open thread about the Madison County elections.  We got us a few scrums going right now as we head down the stretch.  Can Harreld excommunicate the Bishop? Then there are the Killer B's - Bomgar and Bartley.  Can Jenkins unseat Wray? Then there is the House #73 race.  Who will win between Fix Or Repair Daily and the Black Sheep?  Fire away.

Bruce Bartley has run a good race. Tough to unseat an incumbent with that much money.

Anonymous said...

Jill Ford and her army of 200 volunteer women will be victorious.

Joel Bomgar and his coalition of 200 hemp farmers and tech workers will win the day.

Doesn’t matter about Harreld or Bishop... Banks beats either in the end by 20 votes.

The only real loser regarding the BOS is the citizens of Madison County.

The Banks, Griffin, Steen triumvirate will be painful. We can thank a couple of Republicans for that.

I live in District 58 and will vote for Bartley, but I wish I was in 73 so that I could vote for Ford. Black has shown that his compass swings like a weather vane in a wind storm. My biggest regret is that Jill didn't run for Supervisor against Gerald Steen. I will cast a write-in against Steen. He has done more harm to Madison County than any others have in many years. He's unopposed so we're stuck with is @$$ for at least four more years.

Anonymous said...

The 73 race is a shitshow. Black sent out a mailer comparing Ford to AOC and Omar. Then he said on Supertalk he wanted to consolidate Canton and Madison schools and then backed off those statements when they did not prove popular with the Madison crowd.

Ford is nice enough but I don't think she knows what the hell she is running for. She lost the Supervisor race so this was the natural progression. She's probably going to win because Black self imploded his own campaign with the horrible flyers and the foot in mouth moment on Supertalk.

I hear Bomgar/Bartley has gotten ugly too. Im not in that district so I haven't followed. But I did see Don Drane and Russ Latino going at it on Facebook over it.

Anonymous said...

Jenkins will win Circuit Clerk race.

Anonymous said...

Johnny Black mailed out a hit piece on Jill Ford. Really shows his true character.

Anonymous said...

When I was blowing them away in my pumped '69 Chevelle it was Found On Roadside Dead.

For those hard core Bomgar and Black fans

READ CAREFULLY

Frontier Strategies, Josh Gregory and Quinton Dickerson, are working both Bomgar and Black campaigns.

MF PAC, Merle Flowers-disgraced former State Senator from Desoto Co. who got divorced cheating on his wife, is the one behind the hit piece mailers on Bartley and Ford. Stoneridge Group, is sending the mailers for both Black and Bomgar.

Bomgar personally told Jill Ford in January that he would bank roll her campaign to run against Gerald Steen if she would DROP OUT against Johnny Black. You see she declined and wanted no part of that.

AFP - you know them right ? The anti-Republican group called AFP, which is controlled by the Koch Brothers that hate Trump, have endorsed both Johnny Black and and Joel Bomgar.

All over this county for the past month or more , young college and high school age paid kids are walking door to door for both candidates. Paid and Housed by Libertarian funds.
What does this say really about their support group and beliefs?

Connect the puzzle pieces.
Vote Smart for the future of Mississippi and Madison County.

cholly said...

You may disagree with Jill Ford on items but she is very honest and she is not phony inn any way.

Anonymous said...

I don't think she is phony. I think she is underwhelming. Her values with Johnny Black's experience would be a good candidate. She's a realtor. That's literally the career for dumb people who want a chance at making a lot of money. Don't get me wrong, there are successful realtors, but they aren't Rhodes Scholars.

I am voting for Jill because she's the D choice against an F choice, but I think Madison can do better, but good honest people that are successful don't get into politics.

Anonymous said...

Why vote against Anita Wray? I have received excellent service at her offices.

If it's not broken, why fix it?

Anonymous said...

Please, Johnny Black has no experience.

Anonymous said...

Supervisor District 5 race-
Please if we have to hear Bishop say one more time “ I Guess I just don’t understand ...”

Please people vote him out!
We were all fooled with that disaster.

Anonymous said...

Watching Don Drane and Russ Latino going at it on Facebook is like watching paint dry. I miss the days when Micah Gober would post on something on social media about Madison County even though some of them were stupid.

Anonymous said...

12:02, ask Anita why she just fired a 23 year employee.

To those of you mentioning Don Drane, he would pick a fight with drying paint.

Jill will have to figure it after she does it wrong.

Steen is manipulative, two-faced, dangerous and needs to GO!

Anonymous said...

Joel Bomgar angered the establishment. Republican voters are supposedly all about being anti-establishment, but let one guy actually stand up to the establishment and all hell breaks loose.

The establishment couldn't find anybody with the time or money to waste to run again Bomgar except for Bartley. He is good looking and has some money and name recognition. But at some forums, people are finally asking him about his platform and priorities and all you get is a blank stare, just like all of his facebook pictures. He can ramble off a list of his establishment endorsements, but he can't articulate a sentence on a single issue.

The funny think is there is this one guy that keeps posting that he lives across the street from Bartley and that he is not qualified to be a dog catcher.

Anonymous said...

Bartley and Bomgar are squandering thousands of campaign dollars on stuff that people universally hate. I've not heard one person that enjoys getting that crap in the mail from either of them. This reeks of a couple of over-paid campaign managers telling two political novices "how its done".

Frankly, same for Watson and Britton...how did this get so far off track? Oh, I know. PR firms and campaign managers who live off of this stuff.

Anonymous said...

Bomgaars is all about getting pot legalized, not just medical marijuana.

Anonymous said...

And there it is, another kook with nothing on Joel so they make up another "Joel likes pot" story. I would bet my paycheck that Joel has never touched and probably hasn't seen a joint in his life. His platform is about getting the government off our back and giving people their individual liberties back. There's an entire economy getting rich on the backs of the "war on drugs" and another one getting rich on addicting people to opiates but let somebody suggest that critically ill people might be better off smoking a joint instead of enriching big pharma and creating more rehab patients and all the kooks come out.

Hey, 1:32 the 1960's called and they want you to come home.

Black claims to be a job creator. Isn’t it the opposite? All the Courthouse Racquet clubs were run into the ground and “given” to UMMC as a tax deduction. Jobs gained or lost? Bizarre claim. Citizens of Madison won’t fall for that line.

Anonymous said...

@ 12:02 “ask Anita why she just fired a 23 year employee.”

Don’t have to ask her, typically if an employee has been working in the same government / county position for 23 years, they needed to be fired 18 years prior. At 23 years of “experience,” they’re most likely 99% ornery old folks that have been doing the same thing for 23 years because “that’s the way we’ve always done it” and never questioned it or tried to do anything better. They have the computer skills of, well, an old fart, and have likely seen many bosses come and go. From my experience, these are the worst employees because they’ve been babied so much over the years with their 15 smoke breaks, 2 hour lunches, “sick” leave, and other such BS that they only actually work 10 hours a week, if that. If you try to change something or actually ask them to do something, you get nothing but insubordination from them because they feel entitled to the “position” they hold due to their “experience.” Most government bosses don’t have the sack to do anything about these folks and let them age out, to go live fat on their pensions they certainly did not earn. Anita needs to trim more of that ornery old fat in that office in my opinion.

Anonymous said...

NOBODY drops $1+ million into an initiative in little ol' Mississippi simply to get "the government off our back and giving people their individual liberties back". That's complete bullshit but you go ahead and fool yourself all you want.

Anonymous said...

2:09 if your logic carries then Anita Wray needs to be fired as she list 17 years.

Anonymous said...

Any endorsement from that Drane guy is an automatic vote for the other candidate. I’ve never seen someone so rude and toxic. And I bet 90% of folks on that FB page agree. Want to lose an election in Madison? Get him to be your mouthpiece.

Anonymous said...

I think the common denominator in all of these races is the embarrassingly poor campaign strategies. None of the candidates in this thread are nearly as bad as what these ads portray. This will be the legacy of Donald Trump campaign strategy, but it just doesn't work unless you are Donald Trump.

I'm not voting for any candidate that sends me one more ominous ad.

Anonymous said...

According to some Madison mouth pieces, Joel is a pro-drug anti-law enforcement nut because he supports medical marijuana, however the National Sheriff's Association seems to be moving the opposite direction of the county sheriff. Maybe Joel just doesn't like being 30 years behind the rest of the country again.

David Bishop is nothing more than a second vote for Gerald Steen. He needs to go. Both Jim Harreld and Karl Banks are preferable preferable to Bishop. It is sad that no one ran against Steen. Jill Ford would have easily beat him in a rematch.

Anonymous said...

At 2:09... Look up the ADEA.

Anonymous said...

The keyboard warriors come out in droves the month before the primary. If you believe Facebook, you might fall for this story line that Bomgar might lose. And then you remember, this is a replay of 4 years ago when Bomgar beat the same guy by 10,000 votes and in the four years since he has been the most transparent and consistent member of the legislature.

Anonymous said...

I live in District 58 and am voting for Joel Bomgar. He is a solid conservative who does the right thing every time. Unlike his opponent, he doesn't need money or prestige, and has actually accomplished something significant for Madison County. He has my vote and none of the lying attack mail that his opponent is sending out will change that.

Anonymous said...

2:09 and 2:40 both said a mouthful! Its time for Kay Pace to be gone as well. I just wish somebody with half a chance of beating her would have run. For the last 8 years Pace has been running the Tax Collectors office remotely from home and Florida. She should have voluntarily stepped down.

Anonymous said...

@2:40pm, this is @ 2:09. I don’t disagree with you.

Anonymous said...

As a Madison countian Im disappointed Black thought we were stupid enough to fall for the flyers his campaign mailed out. Jill Ford will be one of the hardest working reps we have ever had. Johnie is a nice man very disapointed in him sending out that flyer.

Anonymous said...

How about this! If someone can prove to me before next Tuesday that medical marijuana is legitimate and will be a successful effort in Mississippi I may just vote for these bald face lying candidates named Bomgar and Black!
Show me the proof!

That Drane guy owned Latino! He’s an a$$hole but he did. Yes I said it

Anonymous said...

Somebody please list one achievement this John Black has accomplished. Oh yeah, while you are at it, please list the successful business accomplishments by this McRae grandson, after all, his ads refer to him as a "successful businessman."

Anonymous said...

Unlike his opponent, he doesn't need money or prestige, and has actually accomplished something significant for Madison County.

What was the actual significant accomplishment? Put up.

Anonymous said...

Joel Bomgar built a business creating hundreds of jobs in Madison County. How's that for an accomplishment? Aside from being a conservative champion, he actually provided for families here in Madison. That's more than most people asking for votes can claim.

Anonymous said...

Voting for Jill Ford but her support for John Kasich does generate concern.

Anonymous said...

Would someone please explain to us what qualifications Jenkins has to manage the day to day operations of the Circuit Clerk’s office. What does military service have to do with records management? How many years of military service equal 17 years of actual in the office clerk’s experience. What rank did Jenkins’s retire with ....Four Star General?

I don’t think marijuana has much of any medical applications and not much more than vodka. It makes you feel better but certainly is no miracle drug or all my college buddies would be at the top of their game. I could care less if it becomes legal and believe it will be eventually made legal in every state. The tide is too big. Joel seems to be a smart guy which is opposite of our law enforcement leadership who really see a criminal everywhere.

Anonymous said...

4:41....Bomgar created a company worth several hundred million dollars, that employs several hundred people in area (many live in Madison) and made 20 to 30 people millionaires. Maybe more. But that's just for starters. He has been very active since then.

Anonymous said...

Ok while we are at it, name anything that any of these candidates have done, outside of running for office? I mean significant contributions to society, culture or business? Mark Baker? Sam Britton? David McRae? Bruce Bartley? John Black? I'm not for or against any of these, but seriously yall, the most competent people are too busy running companies to run for these low-paying elected positions and certainly too busy to be grovelling to people on blogs like this.

Anonymous said...

Quite telling that none of the boosters above can identify any significant accomplishments Bomgar has produced for Madison County as a House Representative.

Anonymous said...

11:41 you have been doing your homework!

You Heard It Ratcheer said...

At some point, while reading Latino's posts for three days, a reasonable person is going to pause and ask, "Hmmm, what's in it for him?" Nobody spends that much time praising the life of Bomgar unless there's a payoff of some sort. People would not go to that length to defend their own mother. Figure it out in time to vote.

Black has no 'job creation' experience. His daddy owned some gyms that employed people who got fired in a sell off. He lost the race in five minutes on the Gallo Show.

Seventeen years experience in the Circuit Clerk's office with a group who appears to do a good job, compared to a man who just wants the job. Figure it out.

Hayes Dent with decades of solid background and guard experience will win the day over the nurse.

Harreld will beat Bishop like a government mule and will slide past Banks in November. Nothing magic about Banks but his ability to put his hand in your pocket and remove it quickly without you even knowing it. Now that's 30 years of magic. Harreld will join two conservatives on the Board of Supervisors.

Ford will take the seat with 71% of the votes. If Black's wish for school consolidation in Madison County didn't sink his ship, the photo with Trent Lott certainly did.

And, finally; 11:56 bemoans the fact that Jill Ford is a realtor while casting his support to a guy who was given the keys to his daddy's gym.

This thread is about politics in Madison, but not a mention about all of the voter fraud cases going on in Canton.

Mailer alert!

Desperate I’d say.
Voters - don’t do it !
That man is way in over his head and Gerald Steen's puppet!
He will vote with Steen as he’s told.
Remember that.

5:19....ok, name something Bruce Bartley has done in his ENTIRE LIFE worthy of my vote. One single thing. He can't even put a sentence together. But he poses well for Facebook photos.

This will be another massacre. Except this time the mayor and the retired school guy's name will be attached to the Titanic. Bomgar by at least 10 points.

Anonymous said...

Bomgar wins several national awards for being "conservative" but somehow that is not "doing something for Madison county". Uh huh

Anonymous said...

Hayes Dent is a common sense conservative that the entire state needs in the legislature. He’ll call out the yahoos who are questionable in their ethics/deals and he’ll do the right thing, always. The state is fortunate that Hayes decided to get in the ring. We’ll all be better for it. Godspeed Hayes. #itcanhappenhere

Anonymous said...

Bartley's victory, like that of President Trump, won't be based on votes FOR him, but AGAINST his opponent.

Anybody But Hillary = Anybody But Bomgar.

Bomgar has voted against first responders and is no friend of law enforcement. Bomgar voted against penalities for those who engage in dog fighting. Bomgar homeschools four kids and voted against teachers which clearly means he does not support public education. He has not submitted a single meaningful bill that has passed the legislature in four years. Think about that right there! And somebody claimed he has done the right thing for Madison County?

Anonymous said...

Joel Bomar.

Can someone tell us if this information is accurate?
https://ballotpedia.org/Joel_Bomgar
It is supposed to be a list of bills he has sponsored. I live in his district. If that is his record he's batting at most 20% with me. 20% is really bad. I'm all for a self made businessman, but the things you actually vote for in the legislature are the most important predictor of your future actions. According to some folks on here, Bartley's not much to brag about. If you train a monkey to flip a coin he will be right about 50% of the time, which is 250% as productive as a monkey who is 20% right using his brain.

Anonymous said...

@ 7:00
Are you drunk!????
Are you telling us you will support a candidate who lies to the county sheriff and has not had a bill pass in his short term of service? Oh and really thinks the MS Law enforcement are going stand while any form of marijuana use is approved in this state!!???
If yes , then you probably wouldn’t understand a complete sentence.
Looks like Bartley has some serious traction- sit back and enjoy!
Oh don’t drink and drive!

Hayes Dent is going win the Senate 22 GOP Primary...with very little ease. Hayes is working hard and I’m not sure his opponent has or is doing anything to boost his campaign.

Hayes will have a tough General Election.

More flailing but still nothing specific about what House Representative Bomgar was able to deliver to Madison County over the past 4 years.

Get real, the guy votes "No" on almost every piece of legislation. Bomgar is a legislative schizophrenic and there is no way in Hades he's voting the sentiment of his district beyond, maybe, his fellow neighborhood nutjob Mary Watkins.

Ohhhh, but, but, but Bomgar won some awards!!!!! ROFLMAO

Anonymous said...

They are going to regret they stole the last election from Banks.

He was straight up defeated.

What is so wrong about consolidating all Madison County Schools?

Have you seen Ridgeland High School?

Dunce Stool Awaits said...

Newsflash for 12:03 a.m.- Ridgeland High School is already part of the Madison County School District; no consolidation required. The consolidation proposed by Johnny Black would combine Madison County Schools with Canton Separate Municipal District, a failing district.

Anonymous said...

LOL This one wins the day:

"According to some folks on here, Bartley's not much to brag about. If you train a monkey to flip a coin he will be right about 50% of the time, which is 250% as productive as a monkey who is 20% right using his brain. July 29, 2019 at 7:47 PM"

And to ask the same question for the tenth time: What has Bomgar done for his district? Creating a billion dollar business does not relate to being in the legislature and supporting the wishes of constituents. Bernie Ebbers created a billion dollar business, and where is he?

Voting for marijuana and against first responders, school teachers and animal lovers does not represent the wishes of constituents.

Sponsoring no bills that get out of committee earns him a failing report card any way you size it up. His petty arrogance and libertarian mindset do not play well in Madison County.

Anonymous said...

"The Banks, Griffin, Steen triumvirate will be painful. We can thank a couple of Republicans for that. July 29, 2019 at 10:54 AM"

Please explain the second sentence. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

All of this bashing of Joel by the same person still does nothing to answer the question "what has Bartley done in his entire life" that would be worthy of running for even dog catcher.

Anonymous said...

"voting against first responders, school teachers and animal lovers"......let's set the record straight, Bomgar voted against many bills that were nothing more than feel-good legislation that came with a big tax bill. But keep twisting.

Anonymous said...

"What has Bomgar does for his district?" exposes the establishment mentality of those who are out to get him (like Gene McGee). If you think elected officials' priority is bringing home pork, YOU are part of the problem and YOU are the reason we keep electing people who are bankrupting this state and country. If we had people like Joel in Washington, the budget would be balanced and our grand children would inherit a country they could be proud of.

Joel also served in the military, did Bruce?

Anonymous said...

Black panders the most, and somehow has the state GOP on his side, & sends flyers out with insane ideas like “get rid of the entire MS Admin Code” (showing he has no clue what’s in it) ...

So I guess he’ll win.

I’ll vote for Ford. I don’t like either candidate, but she panders less, & women usually have at least some common sense.

Anonymous said...

6:27am just landed a big lick. Crickets.

Anonymous said...

Surely Bruce was in the military....based on all of the videos he puts online of himself doing belly rolls and shooting at paper targets.

Anonymous said...

I don't think a single other legislator posts an explanation on the web for every vote he has cast. Don't listen to nut jobs, go read for yourself what Joel stands for and why he votes how he does. Very principled.

Anonymous said...

So Joeleen moves to Madison from Hinds County, doesn’t vote for legislation that the Madison County citizens support, has never attended an Aldermen meeting in Ridgeland or Madison or a County Supervisors meeting, doesn’t support our schools or our law enforcement. I’m trying to figure out what he is doing that’s so great for Madison County? Pushing Marijuana? As one legislator said, “Joel is the only elected official he knows of that wakes up every morning with a plan on how to get himself beat. Then executes said plan.”

Anonymous said...

12:45 He has a paid staffer/secretary to read every bill and write a synopsis, although that is nice benefit to his constituents I guess. If you can not get a bill passed because your name is associated with it what good are all these "principles" we keep hearing about??

Anonymous said...

Does Tim Jenkins have a job? I heard at the barber shop yesterday that he is a part time dump-truck driver. If that's true, ain't he more qualified to run for governor as a (D)?

And yes, Bomgar is a schizoid libertarian.

Anonymous said...

5:13...please ask Bartley to string together a coherent sentence about anything other than his establishment endorsements.

Anonymous said...

I will vote for Anita Wray.

I will vote for anybody other than Kay Pace. She refuses to work more than 3 hours a week, her department is incompetent, and she is just laid back and drawing a check. And I consider her and her family life-long friends. I really like her personally, but she isn't earning her pay.

Trey Baxter is a moron. Sheila Jones is the hard working and honest one. She tries to be fair to all sides and gives it her best. I would be happy with 4 more just like her. Steen is a con-artist.

Jim Harreld is better than Karl Banks, and Karl Banks is better than David Bishop. When Jim Harreld is your best candidate, you are in big trouble. He's gone broke in every business he has ever had (chevy dealership was his dad, and then John took care of it after the dad passed, it was successful). But in the end, Jim may turn out okay. This may be a good fit for him.

I think I would vote Jill Ford over Johnny Black. I'm not sure she is qualified, but Black has problems. I think Ford wins, and I think Ford would do a better job. But neither will match what Cory Wilson could do. Corey was awesome.

I think Bomgar wins. But he is a narcissist and simply not a good person. I can live with giving Bartley a chance.

Anonymous said...

I'll be voting for Bartley in an effort to purge Bomgar. Bartley reminds me of John Howland (RIP) who was a Madison councilman and very briefly, a Madison County Supervisor who had to eventually run for election. He lost and became history.

Howland was a very nice looking guy, cleaned up well, great smile, like Bartley. But he could not state anything coherently and literally could not converse. He was a no-show at the big hoe-down where everybody spoke on their platform. Would not be surprised if Bartley figures out a way to miss the show. Since the high sheriff is supporting Bartley, they can fake a rural wreck that keeps him from having to show up. Blood, gravel and all..High stakes drama in MadCo.

Anonymous said...

I think Bartley's $1000 suits will one-up Bomgar.

Anonymous said...

7:53 - Did you intend to mention the businesses in which Jim Harreld has gone broke? You brought it up, then rabbit trailed.

Anonymous said...

9:25...you are probably right, because most Madisonites think that way. Bomgar also drives a ten year old car which I'm sure his neighbors don't like.

Anonymous said...

"Bomgar also drives a ten year old car which I'm sure his neighbors don't like."

So did Columbo. And so does Rob Reiner? Your point?

And how old is Bomgar's condo?

Anonymous said...

That's funny. Joel used to drive his dads old car to work years after his company was a multi-million dollar success. It was old enough to have an antique car tag. He is the kind of guy you want hawking over the state budget.

Anonymous said...

After reading all of the above it appears that the conclusion is that Bomgar delivered no appreciable legislative accomplishments that directly or indirectly benefited Madison County during his first 4 years in the Legislature. I also checked the Mississippi Bill Status System and it appears that 100%, if not nearly 100%, of any substantive legislation he authored died either in committee or on the calendar.

If I missed a noted accomplishment or legislative accomplishment please correct the record.

Anonymous said...

7:53 pm - You nailed Kay Pace. Since Winn came out against her, she has been in the office more in the past several months than she has in the last two terms she's held the office.

Time for her to go home and play with her ponies.

Anonymous said...

Sadly, Kay Pace HAS no serious opposition. She'll remain in her position for at least another four.

Meanwhile: Johnny Black is in full-out damage-control. Whoever does his slick ads is making extra bucks all of a sudden.

The winner in Madison County is the guy peddlin' sphincter control ointment. Them thangs is tightening up all over the county.

Anonymous said...

Nobody’s mentioning the lottery headed our way. Was Tate instrumental in its passing? If so, I may cast a vote for him.

Anonymous said...

After reading all of the comments on this post, I have to conclude that 8:30am has repeated himself about 18 times. I also have to conclude that Bruce Bartley has accomplished nothing in his lifetime worthy of running for dog catcher or somebody would have mentioned it by now.

Anonymous said...

Bomgar posts an explanation of each bill, his vote and his reasoning by why he voted the way he did for each day of each legislative session for the last four years. He works hard and tries to find productive ways to engage both sides of the aisle in helping ALL Mississippians. It may not be conventional, but read about the origin story of the Bomgar corporation and you will see that unconventional is sometimes all we have. Joel May be abit odd, but there isn’t a malicious bone in his body. And believing in transparency for all, including law enforcement doesn’t mean that he is “anti law enforcement”. That is a naive and simplistic understanding of the issue. Both of his parents passed away from cancer, one of the biggest reasons he is pushing MM is that there is research backing the claim that MM can improve quality of life. For example, giving a chemi patient their appetite back so that they are able to regain some of their strength. Please do your research.

Stop the Bomgar Insanity said...

Hey, we've got something! Bomgar posts an explanation on why he votes 'No' on almost every piece of important legislation. Hooray!

Bomgar was one of only two House members (House 115-2, Senate 51-0) to vote 'No' on Senate Bill 2561 which strengthened Mississippi law relative to domestic abuse protection orders.

Bomgar didn't explain why he voted against the final bill but his explanation -- since we're so f'ing lucky that he provides us his reasoning -- for earlier voting against the bill was vaguely, and only, 'This bill amends the Temporary Domestic Abuse Protection Order appeal process so that reports are not redirected to other courts. I voted No, the motion passed 109-4.'.

This is just ONE example. Do YOUR research 3:46 as Bomgar during the past four years has voted time and time again 'No' on common sense legislation that benefits Mississippi and for which there was wide bi-partisan consensus in the House.

PLEASE stop blowing smoke about Joel Bomgar. He's done jack squat for this district.

I am a native Mississippian. I have only lived in Madison County for 20 years. I have fond memories of all the kind, loving, Christian people that I have surrounded myself during my life time. Madison County is an unique place, unlike other parts of Mississippi. I have found the people generally unwelcoming, not even appreciative of all us outsiders raising their property values. Many of the elective government officials are viewed to be very corrupt. This has always surprised me because elective officials are a direct reflection of the electorate. Maybe that is why most of the more growing churches here have been mission churches. Apparently spiritually has never been that important here. That’s a shame. Political corruption is a product of the electorate. Madison County will only become better when the people demand better, honest government. It is true that we are all sinners, but true Christians strive to sin less.

7:50 pm, and that’s a problem.

11:05, other than praising yourself (a genuinely UNChristian act), what are you saying? Madison, at the moment is composed of 'outsiders', like yourself, with a handfull of folks who have been here 25 years or more. How can outsiders make an outsider feel unwelcome?

So, to summarize your speech: You're a fine Christian who downs the community, complains about the Christian churches in your community and admonishes others to sin less. I took notes.

Reckon that's because the lottery has nothing to do with the current election cycle or this blog-thread?

@4:59 would someone please explain to us what qualifications aTimothy Jenkins has ....
Apparently you don’t need any look at the current circuit clerk.. she can’t even add

Anita Wray has done a GREAT job as Circuit Clerk. 17 years in a circuit clerks office (4 as circuit clerk) 8 years as a court clerk. I believe that is 25 years experience total..Vote Anita Wray

Its great to see now that Mayor Hawkins put her big face in the middle of the legislative race. All because of the uproar over school consolidation. And school consolidation will NEVER ever happen in Madison unless mandated by a federal court.....so thanks Mary for bringing more attention to this. Some community activist social justice warrior is probably headed to see a lawyer right now. They messed up a good thing in Cleveland, so why should Madison be different? Shut your trap crazy lady!

Jenkins was an election commissioner. It is said he is in the National Guard but I've never seen the guy in a uniform. Most of the time he's in a Hawaiian shirt, shorts and flops with a couple weeks growth of beard. He may be a civilian employee of the guard but cant say that for sure either.

What is the annual compensation of a Mississippi House Of Representative member? What is the compensation of the Mississippi State Treasurer? I’ve heard that these two candidates have wealthy daddies; no experience of any kind, just wealthy daddies. I wonder how much money these fathers spent on their sons toys. How much is daddy willing to spent to secure a political office?
The guy in the district 73 race must have had horrid Halloween costumes. He is really sending out the demonic hate mail. Even if one has no qualifications, one should not behave is such fashion. Maybe daddy took the bottle away to soon.

Looking online at Bomar and Bartley, it's hard to be impressed by either. I really think the problem is we have too many folks in the legislature and don't pay them enough. Wouldn't we get better candidate if we paid more? If we didn't have so many, we could pay more and keep the total cost about the same. Here is info from all the states: https://ballotpedia.org/Comparison_of_state_legislative_salaries

In general, we have about 120 folks in the house and about 50 in Senate and pay them very little. Many states have 40-60 in the house. Seems like we could have around 40 in the house, 20 in the senate. Pay at least $50,000 and make them 'full time'. Where 'full time' might mean you get a month off three times a year to take vacations and spend time in your home district. Probably a great deal could be learned from what other states do. I think this would be good for the state. We would attract better qualified candidates. We could expect little support from the current legislators.

Anonymous said...

8:46. Right on. Another idea, legislature meet every other year. We have too many laws as it is. It’s 122/52 now.

Anonymous said...

8:46, that is the most asinine thing that has been written on here in years. I agree we should adjust the make up of the legislature, but you can't introduce that subject by saying Bomgar is not qualified to run or that we would get something better if legislature paid more. You do know that he is worth about $40 million right? You can disagree with his politics all day long ( and I could not disagree with you on some of it), but seriously, you think he is in it for the pay? Come on man.

Side note....NOBODY would run for legislature for $50,000 if it was full time. They already make that much on salary and per diems and mileage and free dinners and most of them make six figures the rest of the year in their law office or they own a business.

Shrink the legislature, meet less often, but use better analogies. geez

Anonymous said...

8:46 your idea has been tossed around for many years. It is hard to get these guys to vote themselves out of a job. Just look at the guys running now, it is not the salary. Black would not make in 4 years what he is spend(daddy)ing now to lose.
There are numerous political streamlines Mississippi could make. I remember seeing an article that MS had more elected officials than CA.
Look at the large number of institutions of higher learning this undereducated state has & they have to be governed by a separate board.
One could go on & on about the political waste. Look at all the towns/cities that need consolidating. There is no reason why Ridgeland/Madison should be two different towns other than political egos. MS has one city in 6 figures.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of 'wealthy daddies', isn't Lynn Fitch still running for office?

Is it my imagination or do most candidates have wealthy daddies and most white men getting out of (or avoiding) jail do too?

Anonymous said...

Johnny Black was a no show at the Madison Owners Neighborhood Association candidate forum. I think that speaks volumes about what we can expect if he's elected. Open mouth, insert foot, then hide from constituents asking for clarification.

I've been around for many elections, but never
have I received so many ads, especially mailings.
Unfortunately, the self proclaimed
Allegiance to Trump, and illusion of Trump's support
of them, seems to be more important than
Legislation or government financing. One slick
mail out suggests Bomgar has given $600000 to
to get marijuana on the Ballot ..sounds like
another lie. Wake up folks .. and make sure
your candidate truly supports your principles.

A candidate is aware of political hit pieces published by a PAC. No voter in Madison county is so naive to believe otherwise. While a hit piece may garner momentary attention, a thoughtful review shows the fallacy of the notion advanced. Such is true of the pieces aimed at Jill Ford. In face, the pieces are almost libel and slander. No one will take the time to review the actual court file that the piece quotes and Black knew this when the piece was proposed. Well, I have read the court file and the first thing everyone needs to know is the Complaint was not filed under oath as a sworn complaint, but was signed by the attorneys instead. SO, this means it is nothing but an unproven declaration. And, that declaration was in fact,at the time, denied by Ford. This case never went to trial. There was never any PROOF. Ford was dismissed voluntarily. EVERY VOTING SOLE IN MADISON COUNTY KNOWS THAT ANYBODY CAN FILE SUIT. ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS PAY THE COURT COSTS UP FRONT(GENERALLY LESS THAN $200.00).So, Mr. Black, it seems that this piece will haunt you as it should. Why attack Ford. Because she is a woman? Because she is a Realtor? Because she has a successful family life? Because he husband supports her. Why mr. Black. I know the history of your business and your family. I do not think you have earned the right to criticize anyone. So, Mr. Black the right thing to do is to apologize now and retract those untrue comments before they bury you.

Anonymous said...

But, but, one of Black's handlers said, in an earlier post, that being a realtor is not a real job and is only for dumb people. So, that should push Black into the winner's circle right away, correct?

Black will be lucky if he can open a successful shoe-shine stand at the Jackson bus station after this mess he and Bomgar have created.

Anita Wray spends more time getting her hair and nails done than actually working. There’s a reason why she kept all those “experienced” deputy clerks that all laughed at her when she qualified to run for office 4 years ago when they thought she had no chance. Because she has no idea what the hell she’s doing and really hasn’t learned. So she’s allowed the ones that half ass all the work there with their bad attitudes remain because she hasn’t put in the work to learn the job and hire more competent staff. She just gets run over by what’s there so she can continue to make her hair and nail appointments and botox treatments.

Anonymous said...

Wow, just wow @ 9:56. You are one angry woman!

Anonymous said...

Anita Wray has done a wonderful job as Circuit Clerk..Her opponent admits he doesn't know how to do the job..

Anonymous said...

@12:42 - guess the truth hurts. The same was true when she 'worked' at Hinds County a few years ago.

Anonymous said...

9:56 - I'm trying to understand what you're implying. Are you saying that a new manager coming into a workplace actually should fire all the experienced, efficient staff? That's exactly what you imply in your comment that Wray 'kept all those experienced clerks'.

I've been in that office a number of times and have witnessed no 'bad attitudes or 'half assed service'. Was your work-application rejected? Did you not receive the obligatory 'sorry, you're not qualified' letter? Or are you simply related to the opposition candidate?

Anonymous said...

This thread should be at the top. Madison County is the Metro Hot-Spot for all things including politics.

Anonymous said...

“Experienced” and “competent” staff are not mutually inclusive. Experienced staff may know what they’re supposed to do, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re competent enough to do it.

It is ashamed that no one ran against Trey Baxter. We are now seeing his true colors come out in the board meetings. He has been playing games for months. Like voting against something when he knows it will pass because of the 3 Amigos votes, just to make himself look good. He has his sights set on higher ground in State government. He just hasn't found an idiot yet to appoint him to some "flattering" job. I would support him getting a state job 100% just to get him out of Madison County! Kind of like the people of Arkansas did Bill Clinton! It appears he has aligned himself with self-serving Steen and Griffin. God help Madison County!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
