The Jackson truck driver leads the DEM primary.

When I saw the ad with Pickering in a pickup truck, I knew he was going to win. And then, it showed him in chinos, looking plausibly like a farmer (a Delta farmer, definitely). Most politicians are running around in strange combinations of 'dad jeans' and shirts that belong with suits - looking fake as hell. (I admire Joel Bomgar, who at least wears shirts that are appropriate to wear with jeans) Pickering got the look TOTALLY right, though, and every senile old bag in the state voted for him, because he looked like their daddy, or their late husband.

He who is perceived to be the biggest Redneck wins, in Mississippi (in elections where the candidates are white)
and...
The Daddy Candidate wins.

Mary didn't have a chance, because she does not come off as being a Redneck (unlike a certain someone whose name rhymes with 'zen ditch'. And she's certainly not a daddy.

To become Governor, of course, you need to be BOTH a Redneck and a Daddy.

Mississippians elect those whom they consider to be as stupid and trashy as themselves. They're cutting their own throats, of course, but that's what they do. That's why things will never get any better in Mississippi.

Go glad we're gone from there...

Voters in Madison, the City, love Mayor Mary. Voters in Madison, the County -- not so much. As a Ridgeland resident I have always thought she hurt the other cities in the county by pushing for more state and county funds for Madison, a less populated enclave.

Another way of looking at it, she does her job as mayor of Madison very, very well -- maybe too well for the rest of the county and state to trust she would suddenly include us.

GOP establishment has some making up to do with their candidate for central public service commission Brent Bailey. What a joke because the party barely recognized him early as a candidate. How refreshing it is that one so knowledgable of the industry and job on the commission won the nomination. No candidate worked as hard as he did to get his message out plus turn out his voters.

Stacey Pickering needs to use this second chance to straighten out his ethics, starting with filing any needed amendments to his tax returns. He is, after all, Auditor. Pay your damn taxes Stacey.

Anonymous said...

Will Longwitz was very focused, positive, respectful and restrained to his opponent, and took nothing, absolutely nothing for granted, and with Lee Ann worked very hard. Very hard. Has a great partner in Lee Ann, his lovely secret weapon. He and Lee Ann absolutely deserved a good outcome. And I have to say Bill was a gentleman and worthy adversary. All is well that ends well.

People who live in Jackson just can't trust anyone that's endorsed by JJ. Anti-Jackson articles and comments run rampant on this site. Most of the comments are from people who complain about the crime in Jackson, but these same people work in Jackson every day.

Anonymous said...

Nothing changes in hinds county. Jails will remain overcrowded, criminals will remain untried and Oxford House will remain unscathed. Agree with the comments on BB. Smart guy. Flat out got out worked by what is sadly looking like a pure, career politician. Hand it to the guy- longwitz needs a job and he hustled to keep the only one he's got. He needs to answer his spending habits though.

Anonymous said...

Me too, 11:05. I usually vote in the Dem primary but I switched over to support Longwitz since he is going to bat for those of us dealing with Oxford House. My only wish on the Dem side was for Lewis to get ousted. Cheers!

Anonymous said...

Someone posted on a different thread that we should use the search feature in the top right corner of JJ's homepage and see what everyone had to say about Will Longwitz in the past. I did. I encourage everyone to do the same. "Liar Longwitz, Lazy Longwitz, Worthless Will, career politician." That's just a few of the more colorful thoughts. He had a handful of supporters, but the majority of posters had nothing but bad things to say about him. Now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon like neo Saints fans after their first super bowl win. He threw a little hissy fit about Oxford House and that's about it. They're still here and don't appear to be going anywhere. I've scoured the Internet and can't find one indicator that they will be removed once established. They may not open new houses. They may not resign the lease at the current address, but it doesn't look like they will be changing locations. I'll bet dollars to donuts that Senator Longwitz doesn't even bring up the house but once or twice more. This was grandstanding at its finest. He yelled and stomped and but on a good show just in time to get his constituents whipped into a frenzy just prior to voting season. He's a career politician. We had a shot at bringing in some new blood and passing some legislation that matters. Instead we bought what Longwitz was selling and I fear we will all be sorely disappointed.

1:40 Get a grip on yourself. You are posting at nearly 2 in the morning about why Longwitz is going to disappoint everyone. But you see, he didn't disappoint in the last 4 years. This wasn't just an Oxford House vote. People in Madison County don't know about Oxford House and yet he won there with almost exactly the same percentages. Face it, he won and he won big. Stop telling voters they are stupid. They made their overwhelming choice.

I'm glad, too, that Longwitz won big. But we in Madison county have probably made MOST of the posts regarding the Neal & Anna Flophouse/Chicken Ranch Scandal. We're the ones who've been staring and pointing and whispering. We're the ones who'll be "greeting" 'Her Specialness' at MRA, and we're among the many who are examining the family's every move (and contingency-planning against their next misdeed).

We do SO know about Oxford House. Many of our widowed mothers live in the vicinity of the Flophouse, and we fear for their safety. The elderly are far more vulnerable than are children, to the identity theft/burglary/rape/murder one expects, when criminals are introduced into a neighborhood. Lots of us grew up in that neighborhood, and still love the place. We care: BIGTIME.

Anonymous said...

WAIT A MINUTE................."Her Specialness" is coming to MRA? Holy Cow. How did that happen?

Back to the election. Thought Jill might pull it out. I spent some time outside my Ridgeland polling place yesterday. The "old guard" Ridgeland were all over Steen and the folks I had never seen before were in the Jill camp. Same thing I have been seeing in the neighborhood, at Church and on FB. Jill hurt herself when she joined the gang of 3. I think if she had stood alone she would have won.

Maybe next time.

@ 6:51 - That is just one snobby neighborhood in Tupelo that is against it. Everyone else in the state would welcome it into their neighborhood. Isn't that that how the story goes?

Anonymous said...

I dare the "Kingfish"' to file his open/public records requests or whatever other means he/she generally uses, to obtain the first 50 abstracts of cases with a final judgment that go to trial, by private retained attorneys, against Hancock, in Madison County Justice Court.

Hancock won because of "popularity," networking, socializing, etc.. Not because of knowledge, skill, or real trial experience actually trying cases on a daily basis against attorneys who know how to try cases.

This guise of "protecting" Madison County...to save herself from a failing private practice so that she can personally gain with a set salary from a public position...just get the abstracts from the first 50 or so trials with privately hired counsel (NOT pro se and not "guilty" or "no contest" pleas), Mr./Ms. Kingfish. And then produce a blog entry about them, sir/madam.

*The tri-county criminal defense bar dripped salivation at knowing what will happen starting in January. Happy clients - previously accused of crimes in Madison Co. Justice Court - and future referrals from those happy clients.

Go get the abstracts. After her first 50 or so trials against private defense attorneys. Or not (Ms./Mr. Kingfish did, factually, allow her private practice marketing on this blog.)

"Hancock won because of "popularity," networking, socializing, etc.. Not because of knowledge, skill, or real trial experience actually trying cases on a daily basis against attorneys who know how to try cases."

Welcome to Elections. Where have you been? Elections are all about networking and socializing. Let's just say if it had anything to do with experience, in most cases, people would not hold the offices that they do today.

This is not to say that I agree with your premise about Pamela Hancock or disagree, but hello Captain Obvious.
And, dare I say, that I smell some sort of weird discontent, and that, in fact, you are out of touch with the will of the electorate.
Which makes you, precisely, a dunce.

Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.

And here I thought "Missionary Baptist" was the only thing that happened in the bedroom for most Baptists.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
