Cochran ad seeks Democratic votes for a Republican primary

Desperate or smart? That 'tis the question as an ad in the Mississippi Link asked "democrats to cross over and vote in the republican primary to ensure our community's interest is heard."  Republicans asking Democrats to vote in a Republican primary? Interesting.

The ad says at the bottom of the page it is paid for by "All Citizens for Mississippi".  The organization is not listed on the Secretary of State's website although it could be registered.

Something else that is interesting is the ad's claim that historically black universities received $18 million in federal funds. Is that in 42 years or just last year? One would hope the ad meant those schools received the money last year because the average amount of federal funds per year over 42 years would be pretty low.    See page 5 in the Mississippi Link.

I was thinking about the Democrat/Independent vote in the Senate primary when I read the recent poll sample. It said they only sampled "those who identified as Republicans." I'm not registered as either and although I tend to vote for the Democrat in Presidential elections (disclaimer: I voted for George W :( I rarely pay attention to Democrats in other races in this state. If there's a 99% chance that a Republican is winning the election doesn't it make sense to vote for the best Republican? Off the top of my head I can count 10 friends that identify as Democrat or "not Republican" that are voting for Thad. Tuesday will be interesting and fun.

It's official. The Cochran camp is terrified. A true party man/conservative? This is beyond desperate.

Not a big fan of MCD, but Cochran's living situation, tenure and his willingness to serve as a puppet for the Haley machine is repulsive. Retire thad!

Glad you highlighted this. Didn't find listing for this group on SOS website or FEC's website.

really can't think of a better ad that shows Cochran is more aligned with the dems/liberals than with the conservatives.

And ad asking dems to step over and vote for me cause I'm the pork king. wow

The dark horse (now all of you squealing racist police look up"dark horse" before you start squealing) in this race is Foghorn Leghorn. Onward to victory!

Childers is looking better and better to me. He's conservative where it matters.

Will be my first vote for a Democrat in 3 decades if McDaniel wins.

So this group is crowing that Cochran has directed a pitiful $400,000 per year to Mississippi's HCBUs?

You've got to be freaking kidding me.

Blacks should be insulted. Damn, if that is the best a US Senator can do then that is more of a reason to get rid of Cochran.

I mean, what a stupid point to make. Hey blacks, help re-elect Thad Cochran to keep the table scraps dropping on the floor.

Outrageous.

^*Edited to include that which was implied, but not stated!

Your first wasted vote in 3 decades? Good job.

I'm all in for McDaniel to the finish line and to rescue me from all these crazies in DC...!!

I'd like to say my fellow Dems can't possibly be so stupid ... but ....

"The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP),[1] formerly known as the Food Stamp program, provides food-purchasing assistance for low- and no-income people living in the U.S." Source: Wikipedia.

So Cochran is now BRAGGING that he's responsible for food stamps?? This guy was done 6 years ago...

Who is 'all citizens for Mississippi'? That's certainly not citizens for Cochran. Is this legit or a dirty trick setup?

Anonymous said...

And now Trent Lott is an authority on Madison County politics! Bite me, Trent.

1:17 PM, full page color ad in the Mississippi Link. Somebody had to cough up the dinero.

Will Stauff said...

How's that Cochran prediction of winning the primary by 10 points or more working out for ya?

Anonymous said...

That ad alone just made me decide to vote for McDaniel. Way to sell your soul to the devil there Thad, damnit.

Anonymous said...

Hey 3:01, cant you read? The ad was not done by Cochran campaign. It was done by some group called "all citizens for MS". Don't know who that is, or what the intent was. Guess if it was a 'dirty trick" as asked above, it worked. Except that it appears it was not 'this ad alone' that made you decide - sounds like you had your mind already made up.

Anonymous said...

Agree with 11:29. Will vote for Childers if McDaniel pulls off the primary.

What I would like to know is how Trent Lott managed to stay out of prison when Dickie Scruggs et al wasn't so lucky? Heck, even Little Dickie did time!

So Thad Cochran was supposed to be opposed to federal programs that have been bringing money into Mississippi, while all the other states would have been happy to divide up the funds that would have come our way? I agree that the federal government is WAY too big, but you cannot reverse that overnight. Meantime, why don't some of you raving idealists figure out how much you are benefiting from the amounts flowing through the Mississippi economy and donate your share to your church or synagogue? The recently withering tea party may still have enough juice here to elect McDaniel, but he will be a powerless eunuch in Congress.

When do we get to find out who "All Citizens of Mississippi" are? I assume there are FEC reporting requirements, but maybe the cost a full-page ad in the Mississippi Link is low enough that All Citizens of Mississippi ducks the 24-hour reporting requirements and won't have to disclose until after the election?

Anyone know?

I'll put my Line 19 up against yours Burke any day. You can shove it.

Anonymous said...

If you love Harry Reid, vote for Childers.....

and by doing so, condemn your children and their children to a lifetime of slavery to our out of control government and their runaway spending

Anonymous said...

Burke, they are ideologues not idealists.
But, you are too kind. What they are is stupid.
Most of them don't know the difference between the debt and the deficit and surely don't know most of the figures they throw around are either includes debt of all the states ( and sometimes personal debt of citizens is thrown in) or is The Federal Reserve's debt. They also don't understand that the Federal Reserve is not part of the Federal Government and Congress can't control that.
That we are even talking about what any Senator did decades ago without looking at what conditions is exited is crazy.
Doesn't anyone remember that we had balanced the budget and erased he deficit? And, you want to talk about votes taken THEN????
How stupid can you get????
The latest Tea Party ad is bashing Cochran for saying he liked Obama. Forget it was a " he's pleasant at a party" comment. Unless you are rude and crude and impolite in public, you can't apparently be in The Tea Party.

I'm 8:23 am and my typing is awful and I didn't edit myself.

"are" shouldn't have stayed between " around" and " either".

It's " existed" not " exited". And, it should be " the" not " he before deficit.

And, there's a comma missing.

What a waste of time and money. Thad stands a chance to be Appropriations Chairman which will benefit most of MS and there are fools out there who want to jeopardize it? That is absolutely the most selfish thing I have ever considered.

Thad in a land slide and the future of MS is solidified for another 6 years and beyond.

If you like prosperity, vote Thad.

Anonymous said...

This is the same campaign that says they are the only chance to beat the Democrats, and they have to beg Democrats just to win the primary!

If you are happy with what is going on in Washington then vote for Thad!

If you don't like it, vote for change!

It's that simple.

Anonymous said...

That's a joke. Cochran and every long term Republican Congressperson have overseen the unrelenting growth of government. They are no different than the Democrats.

They are all progressives, the only difference being their ideologies. Government is not the answer to a free society.

And no, I'm not a McDaniel supporter nor do I think he is an answer, but until the popularity contests based on the campaign cash raised is changed, limits placed on the terms and the death of the career politician happens, progressivism will continue to chip away at what was once a free constitutional republic.

@ 8:32/9:10

You corrected the grammatical errors but not the fallacies. While the Federal Reserve, is not a "part" of the government, it's definitely under purview of congress, just like each previous National Bank. How else would these Audit the Fed bills be possible?

e Pluribus Unum said...

That's right, you idiots! Vote for Childress and ensure a democrat senatorial majority continues for another several years. Good call!

I'll show 'em. I'll vote democrat. Right. You SHOW 'em.

Oh, that's rich.

More selfish than "prosperity" that eats up our seed corn for future generations and drives our country further into irrecoverable debt and insolvency?

I would love to hear a defense of this crushing debt from Thad, who shoulders no small measure of the responsibility for it. What is the endgame for our country? What is the plan to eventually pay it off?

You'll never get an answer out of any of the incumbents. And they won't suffer like OUR children will when all the bills come due. It's time for the fiscally responsible to have a seat at the table.

re: comment about appropriations chair…

I know I wasn’t the only person who read the book that came out last year (“Extortion: How Politicians Extract Your Money, Buy Votes, and Line Their Own Pockets”).

Pretty much exposed how folks get on committees and chairs…and their costs. When folks screamed—Liar!, book revealed both parties’ price list.

“We want to believe that committee assignments are based on knowledge, expertise, and background,” writes Schweizer in Extortion. “But a member of Congress will end up on a powerful committee like the House Ways and Means Committee or Financial Services Committee only if he or she can raise money.”

When asked how he managed to obtain both the DNC and RNC price lists, Schweizer said, "Good old-fashioned gumshoe investigative journalism."

Kind of gives a different spin on bought-and-paid-for, doesn't it.

At the time the book was published, the House Jud A Chair was $405,000. Chair of energy and commerce was $990,000. Assignment as ranking member on House Ways and Means or Financial Services Committees is $500,000.

The book contains copies of the Democratic and Republican price lists detailing how much money lawmakers must raise to obtain and keep their seats on congressional committees. The so-called “party dues” lawmakers must contribute for committee assignments are separate and apart from the fundraising they conduct for their own campaigns. If lawmakers fail to make their tribute payment to their party, they can lose their place on a powerful committee

5/31-3:46. about Trent Lott.... didn't he pull out right after he was voted in? oh and wasn't DickieThugs on his way to prison during this same time frame? and didn't Little Dickie have a house in Madison County? and didn't Dickie deed his big house to bro-in-law Trent? I don't know just askin'. so of course Trent has authority in Madison County! ;) ;) p.s. guessing trent probably stayed out of trouble because he was no longer in politics when dickie thugs went to jail. what is even more interesting is why didn't they take pursue this further and take all lil dickie may have purchased with all the money (maybe the house in madison county?)
AND.... what was it Dickies punishment? ...... oh my goodness he goes to prison and when he gets out he will no longer be able to practice as an attorney-boo hoo. oh wow big punishment when you have millions of dollars to live on the rest of your life! ;) don't know I'm not one to gossip.

5/31-505----because its not people like us that have the abundance of money from grant funding to donate. it's the small click of people that are the recipients of these funds over and over and over and over. contractors, developers, investors, and realtors especially in government housing, low income apartments, and rural development. big big money. follow the trail and you will see its the same people that are recipients.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
