Accused killer of Lee Kendrick now in custody.
Walter Lee Young surrendered to JPD after he was charged with capital murder in the death of 81 year-old Lee Kendrick. Young is 21. Young contacted Hinds County Sheriff candidate Victor Mason and turned himself in to police with Mr. Mason's assistance. Kendrick was shot to death last week in a vacant unit at the Cedarstone Apartments in North Jackson.
State Auditor announces guilty pleas in Alcorn County corruption case.
State Auditor Stacey Pickering issued the following statement:
Court of Appeals upholds Kuebler's conviction.
The Mississippi Court of Appeals affirmed the conviction of Louis Kuebler. A Hinds County jury convicted him in 2011 of murdering Tamra Stuckey. The ruling is posted below.

It seems Mr. Andrew Mattiace didn't want anyone looking at some of his dealings with the Mississippi Development Authority. Hinds County Chancellor William Singletary yesterday sealed his contracts and other information regarding his award of a Tourism Sales Tax Rebate for the Renaissance expansion. JJ, Sarah Fowler (Clarion-Ledger), and Dr. Charles Bush, M.D. filed public records requests for various records pertaining to his application.

Update 9:00 PM: JPD issued the following statement and video:
Robbery/Homicide Detectives have discovered new evidence in the murder investigation of Mr. Lee Kendricks. The video is surveillance footage from a local service station which shows the victim’s vehicle, a silver Buick near the gas pumps. The female that exits the front passenger door is identified as Loren Danielle Shell and the vehicle is being driven by an unknown subject. The footage was taken after the death of Mr. Lee Kendricks. Loren Shell maybe still in possession of the victim’s vehicle which has not been recovered yet.
Public Records Request follies
Thieves, thieves, thieves. That is the word that came to mind last week when I got an invoice from the Jackson city clerk's office for a copy of the Goodwill Industries Zoning application. The city charged $80 for a copy of a zoning app that was all of sixty pages. $45 for copying charges and $35 for "staff costs". Ridiculous.
Goodwill is coming to NE Jackson.
Goodwill Industries is coming to Northeast Jackson. The City Council approved on August 17 a variance request by Goodwill. Ward 1 Councilman Ashby Foote voted to approve the request. It passed on a 3-2 vote. The application is posted below. Goodwill intends to open a store at 4950 I-55 North. It should be between Books-A-Million and Kroger.

This was the last day of August, 1965, 50 years ago. The Ole Miss Rebels had gathered for their first official practice. Hopes were sky-high. The Rebels were a season removed from a Southeastern Conference championship and had begun the previous season ranked No.1 in the country.

Ridgeland Board of Aldermen approve refinance for TIF bonds. (Video)
The Ridgeland Board of Aldermen voted 6-1 last night to approve a refinancing of $1.9 million in TIF bonds. The bonds were issued in 2005 for the construction of the Lowe's on County Line Road. The small room was packed with Ridgeland citizens as several grilled the aldermen and Mayor Gene McGee over the proposed refinance and the original bond issue.
