Ridgeland Police Chief Bryan Myers issued the following statement.
Friday, October 9, 2026, at approximately 4:45pm, Ridgeland officers responded to the parking lot of Smile Straight Orthodontics at 7040 Old Canton Road in reference to a juvenile male who had been shot. After further investigation it was determined that the shooting actually occurred in the parking lot of the Aspen Apartments, 6675 Old Canton Road. Elijah Keyon Minor, age 16, of Ridgeland, sustained a gunshot wound to the back. Despite lifesaving measures by responding officers, fire department personnel and EMS, Minor succumbed to the injury.
An intense investigation ensued and ultimately, two arrests were made late Friday night. Daniel Banks, Jr., age 15, and Curtice Pierre Tucker, age 15, both of Ridgeland were charged as adults with Culpable Negligence Manslaughter. Both individuals will be held without bond at the Madison County Detention Center until an initial appearance before a Ridgeland Municipal Court Judge on Tuesday, October 13, at 1:30pm.

South Ridgeland is North (NE) Jackson. Ridgeland would be well served by letting Jackson annex the area that includes all of those apartments.
Well at least Hinds County won’t get their slippery hands on them. I’ll bet the Teachers at their school will finally get relief!

So the Jackson "mother of the year" brings the chillin to watch.
Those apartments were built when the area was unincorporated Madison County. The city annexed those areas to get control of them and stop the proliferation and deterioration. They also spent a lot of money trying to get rid of the old apartments. However, the lefty Obama administration said oh, no, no, no! Hands off! Those are good quality ghettos. Oops, I mean good quality low income housing.
Just remember that on Election Day. If you like government protection of good quality ghettos where kids kill kids, then vote blue. If you want to live in a civilized society where your kids don’t get shot in the back over trivial BS, then vote a straight red ticket. Even if you have to hold your nose to do so.

It didn't help Ridgeland when a bunch of emails between city officials and constituents were uncovered. Didn't help at all.

Many years ago (1973} I moved from the Ms. Delta right after finishing my undergraduate degree to Jackson Ms. in the Millsaps area. Crime in the area escalated over several years. I moved to Ridgeland which was fine for several years. It got worse so I moved to Madison the city. Although I have moved farther in the county, I am okay with it.
These young fools evidently had no vision or dreams. So sad!
When I lived down there behind Amerigos in the early 2000’s we called it the DMZ
@1:00 if this were an accidental discharge by individual in back seat of vehicle into back of individual in front seat, that would probably explain the manslaughter charge
