D.L. Gardner: Trump's Reasons for Military Action

Note: This column was distributed Sunday.

Of all the challenges any nation might face, war is the most dangerous. So why, some are asking, would President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu launch a war against Iran out of the blue with no particular reasons?

Democrats, Pulitzer Media, and other woke entities infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome (DTS) have settled on the same understanding of why Trump and Netanyahu lunged into this war on a lark March 1. Sure, the initial surprise attack took out more than 40 senior Irani leaders including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the head of the Revolutionary Guard and Iran’s defense minister with three strikes in three locations within a single minute according to Defense News. But expert detractors are saying the strikes were haphazard with little to no mission objectives.

Doesn’t that sound just like Trump’s usual political detractors? Yes! But we should still answer their political questions because they’re surely incapable of grasping a plan that includes military objectives tied to economic repercussions in international oil trading that affects Venezuela, Cuba, China, Russia, India, and Iran itself, not to mention Israel and the USA. According to them this surprise attack was a fluke because no one could imagine anyone devising such a multi-planed attack.

Finally, the White House sent Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt to the podium to lay out three key points for President Trump’s action: “Stated objectives include eliminating imminent threats, destroying missile and nuclear capabilities, and taking out (Iran’s) navy.”

Nevertheless, the usual detractors were not satisfied with these points, labeling them insufficient for justifying a never-ending war with boots on the ground in the Middle East. We begin the nineth day this week.

Indeed, detractors bemoaned the extreme escalation of the price of gasoline around the world and in the USA. Experts fear gas prices will rocket past $3/gallon by the end of next week. It was bad enough when President Biden was driving our economy and the national average of a gallon of gas exceeded $5 per gallon in June 2022! Oh, for the good-old-days before Trump’s never-ending war!

But I digress. Back to reasons for the military action in Iran. According to Kinsey Crowley writing in USA Today, March 7, “A week into the war in Iran and the Trump administration has given several reasons for why it carried out the strikes alongside Israel.”

Crowley continued, “President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have said it moved to eliminate an imminent threat, to squash missile capabilities and prevent nuclear capabilities. It also seemed to support a regime-change, though they did not call it a regime-change war. Trump has said the U.S. will continue its military action until all its objectives are achieved and has since predicted that it will take several weeks.”

According to Epoch Times March 8, “the Iranian regime transferred some of its capabilities to secret bunkers and attempted to restore its efforts and conceal them” during the June 2025 strikes. In another ET story Jacki Thrapp wrote, “The son of eliminated Iranian leader Ali Khamenei will replace his father, according to state media on March 8.” She continued, “Hours before Sunday’s announcement, Trump warned if the successor was not approved by the U.S., ‘he’s not going to last long.’”

President Trump has his reasons!

I don't know about everyone else but Im enjoying seeing us flex our Military might.

I probably qualify as a "usual detractor," though I usually keep my opinions about Trump to myself. I value my relationships with family and friends more than my opinions on national politics.

But I have no problem with military action against the Iranian military dictatorship. In fact, I think it's been a long time coming.

And the Revolutionary Guard has finally revealed it's true nature to the other Middle East nations: it's a terrorist organization.

I just hope we don't turn the war into a business, like we did in Iraq. I have plenty of problems with the Trump administration, but Iran isn't one of them.

This country continues to try to excerpt its will on others and the end result is always the same. We will spend hundreds of billions of dollars, lose who knows how many lives and will accomplish nothing. Since the end of WWII can anyone provide an example where military action successfully achieved installing a democracy?
Military action cannot defeat an idea especially if those ideas are held by people who believe that dying for that idea is the right thing to do. This latest action is a good example, the leadership was killed in the first wave of attacks only to be replaced by new leaders who are even more determined.
I agree that a nuclear armed Iran should never be allowed to exist, if we are going to use our military then we must be willing to totally destroy the enemy which unfortunately would entail killing hundreds of thousands of civilians. Which is what we did to both Germany and Japan in order to end WWII.

Problems with Iran started when CIA overthrew its democratically elected leader Mossadegh in 1953 and installed the Shah. Purpose of current war, just as with U.S. support of Ukraine, is fear of the dollar no longer being world's reserve currency. Listen to the excellent work by Ben Norton on Geopolitical Economy Report instead of to Fox News and Newsmax, as most of you seem to do.

“ Since the end of WWII can anyone provide an example where military action successfully achieved installing a democracy?”

10:29, Korea comes to mind. South Korea’s democracy is doing pretty well since we pushed the communists out.

Didn’t Nostradamus predict that Iran would get involved in a nuclear conflict with the West?

Billions of dollars wasted. Same regime in place. Most people in the world negatively affected economically. Innocent people killed. America looking foolish. DL carrying water for Trump and Israel. How sad.

He bankrupted CASINOS! Casinos! The House always wins and yet Orange King Joffrey ran multiple casinos into the ground. Americans are now officially the dumbest people on the planet.

12:24, the alternative was to let them keep killing innocent people around the world with terrorist acts, let them keep brutally repressing their own people, causing complete chaos in the Middle East, and develop nuclear weapons so they could do all of the above with absolute impunity. Starting a war (if that’s what you wish to call us punishing Iran) is a tough thing to do no matter the circumstances, and there will be short term negative economic consequences, but you have to be pretty naive to think we had a better choice.

The Korean Armistice Agreement was signed on 27 July 1953.

The first democratically elected President of Korea was Roh Tae-woo.

Roh Tae-woo's election in December of 1987 was followed by his inauguration in February of 1988. Roh Tae-woo followed decades of rule by Syngman Rhee starting in July of 1948, and then a series of military dictatorships. He was the first president to be elected under the current 1972 democratic constitution.

So Korea did become a democracy, but it was in 1988 almost 35 years after the active war ceased with the signing of the Armistice in 1953.

DL Gardner is a dumbass not even worthy of this post!

@11:37 seems to me that the Korean War was a stalemate. We still to this day have troops at the DMZ. I don’t call that a win unless you describe a win like Trump, which is just say you won no matter what.

Does DL go by ‘Catturd’ on Twitter/ X? If not they are spirit animals for carrying Trump’s water.

Iran's main export is terrorism. That is today's reality.

To all the would-be historians and economists, what happens when terrorism is left unchecked? (hint - it spreads and economies collapse)

Until it's depleted, and we're more vulnerable to our enemies. Trump is doing what he's told to weaken, and accelerate the demise of America.

Gas is $3.49/gallon in Brandon today, up $1.00 from two weeks ago. Hard to be worried about much else, when many are literally struggling to buy groceries, gas,.electricity, everyday living costs. With added fuel costs, the price of most consumer goods will increase. The job of The President of the United States is to lead the country to a better place… this isn’t it. Praying for better days.

1:52, North Korea invaded South Korea in an attempt to unite the peninsula. South Korean troops had effectively been beaten, and cornered in a small section of their country, when U.S. forces landed and pushed the North Korean troops out of South Korea and almost out of North Korea when China joined in and pushed us back down to the 38th parallel. Did we save South Korea? Absolutely! Were we able to drive the communists out of the peninsula and unite it under South Korea? No. But bottom line, if we had not stepped in, Kim Jong Un would now be ruling the whole peninsula. Please learn to Google so you don’t have to have stuff like this explained to you.

We are ruled by parasites in large part because of how little we respect ourselves and our own dereliction of duty.
Ultimately, the world is a mirror. we get the "government" we deserve and consent to.  and that "government" reflects our culture and morality, ethics, and judgement.
not a good commentary on us as a people, this late in the empire's collapse.

Also not interested in watching innocent civilians in Iran get slaughtered with my tax dollars in the hopes of killing a random member of the IRGC. This isn’t what winning looks like. Trump just looks like Bibi’s jamboy

I didn’t vote for Trump but this is what the majority of the voters signed up for. It was always going to be some version of wingnut. I miss the days when it was moderates running the country instead of the woke left and the woke right taking turns.

And yet, Trump has still accomplished more than you, an insignificant nobody throwing insults from the outside.

March 14, 2026 at 2:38 PM, you probably liked it better when Obama was bowing before the other world leaders.

Anonymous said...

You must have really suffered under Biden.

March 14, 2026 at 2:38 PM, you're doing an awful lot of projecting for someone that doesn't know sheep shit from shinola.

The weaponry being displayed against Iran, and previously against Venezuela, doesn't begin to reveal the unconventional weapons brought online by the military industrial complex in the last 25 years.

The only thing weak about this great country's military power has been the weakness of the previous occupants of the White House.

You know Jared, Lindsey Graham and the Huckabees are!

Anonymous said...

Just curious, 4:14. What would you do with an Iran that’s right on the cusp of developing nuclear weapons and whose slogan is “Death to America, Death to Israel”? Serious question.

Anonymous said...

Well the left will tell you that it’s because Orange Man is a racist/sexist/hitler/zionist/fascist/king/good goy/russian agent which makes absolutely no sense but then again you’re talking about the left. They’ll fight it till the end unless it’s one of their geniuses starting a war then they go full tard in support of it. Meanwhile you got the whole Pacific at play and people are worried about a drop in the bucket going on in Iran.

Anonymous said...

What did those people do when Joe was president and gas went up to $t5 a gallon?

Anonymous said...

This link is video footage of a 4k “walking tour” of Tehran in Decenber 2025. https://youtu.be/9yIMBrpHMhk please count the number of Persian women walking without hijab. These people are not oppressed. You have to understand who controls the media in American and what they gain from brainwashing you. The violent “protests” in Iran were a foreign color revolution. You do know about those, right? Arab Spring was one that Obama’s CIA did. Do you think Trump’s CIA couldn’t do the same?

Anonymous said...

@3:58 Google the word stalemate

What the plan? Did we know gas was going to go up a $1.25 a gallon in 2 weeks? Are ground troops going in ? How many dead and injured can we expect ? What’s Victory ? What’s the exit plan ?

We live in a town/state/country/world where the majority of people believe they can drop to their knees, pray to the god of their choosing (with tens of thousands to choose from) and change the the laws of physics to stop weather, pestilence and disease, to name a few. Hell, we can't fix the Jackson Mississippis of the world, but think we can solve, and dictate, the Iraqs, Irans, Ukraine's, Venezuelans, Taiwans of this world. As a country, we have mortgaged our credibility and influence in a last ditch flailing of military power the cost of which is just beginning to melt our economic well being. Trump has no more "plan" than Biden had. They are nothing more than children with very large and powerful toys.

Anonymous said...

Why? Two senile narcissists want to cling to power and enrich themselves.

Anonymous said...

@6:22
You are correct. Trump’s behavior makes no sense. It is like he is deranged or has dementia. The things he says, the lies he tells, and the fact that he is clearly somehow (who knows how?) controlled by Netanyahu, are all extremely concerning to rational people who aren’t maga cultists.

Anonymous said...

8:50 AM Are you kidding? We all know exactly how Netanyahu is controlling him 😂

Anonymous said...

9:18, when we entered South Korea, it was more or less occupied by North Korea; when we left, North Korea was pushed back above the 38th parallel. That was a victory - ask any South Korean if they are happy we prevented Kim Jong Un from ruling them. Don’t let your hatred of America cloud your judgement.

Anonymous said...

Again, we will look back and ask, how did we let this happen.

Anonymous said...

7:41, None of that is an excuse to stand by idly, while Russia, Iran, and China pursue imperialist agendas and invade their neighbors.

Anonymous said...

Hope yall like $10 has and $500 utility bills….yall broke!

Much like Trump I have a hunch , I can feel it in my bones . The democrats are going to win in a landslide. Trump will resign before 1/20/ 27 with the hope that Vance can still run twice.

It only costs us a few billion a day plus double at the gas pump. It’s future generations problem, not ours. That’s the Republicans guarantee: the buck stops at some point in the future.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
