College football stars will have to pay taxes just like the rest of us in Mississippi.
The Senate Finance Committee tabled HB# 4014 this afternoon in a discussion that lasted less than two minutes. The bill exempts NIL compensation for college athletes from state income tax.
Senator Deak Kirby (R- Gold Coast) said he received calls from constituents who "are not happy with the bill." Mr. Kirby said he was sure his colleagues received the same comments from their voters. The State Senator immediately moved to table the bill. His motion passed unanimously.

Are you going to believe your lying eyes? JJ isn't publishing post because of one loudmouth on TikTok. However, the fake news that NIL pay for college athletes will be exempt from Mississippi income tax is being repeated on social media. It is simply not true.

I wonder how many scholarship recipients pay income taxes on the monies used for non-qualified educational expenses?
Tik tok, Facebook, Instagram - most people get there news here. When the “old” media became influencers instead of reporting the news, no one knows the real truth. That is why George Floyd memorials get built and in MS, we honor white male bigots and put their name on memorials, parks, buildings. Gotta move where the people are more like u, quality of life is better and u can get quality healthcare. Mississippi is just a punchline in a joke. The people here desire no change. They like it like this. Seriously, how much time and energy did the politicians waste on eliminating taxes for college kids. U would think Mississippi has bigger problems to deal with. Oh yeah, they do! Must be over their pay grade to resolve so they pay back their benefactors and Mississippi remains at the bottom.

You have cause and effect backwards. Old media didn't become influencers. Influencers rose beause old media ceased doing its job and steadily eroded it's reputation by repeatedly lying for 4 decades.
