Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
The trial of Franky Lee Lovern Sr. concluded today with Lovern being found guilty by jury trial of Sexual Battery and Gratification of Lust. Lovern’s sentencing was scheduled for January 6, 2025, and by judge’s order he was remanded to the custody of the Rankin County Detention Center until that hearing. At the conclusion of the court proceedings, Lovern was being escorted from the courtroom to the detention center by a deputy sheriff. During that time, Lovern attempted to overpower and disarm the deputy resulting in a physical altercation between Lovern and the deputy. Additional law enforcement personnel responded to the courthouse and Lovern subdued. During the altercation the deputy sheriff sustained minor to moderate injuries which were treated by medical personnel and Lovern was taken to the Rankin County Detention Center where he was treated for his injuries by the medical staff.Lovern having already been convicted of the two felony charges has been charged additionally with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Attempted Escape, Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon, Disobeying a Police Officer, and Resisting Arrest. The new charges will be filed in the Rankin County Court while he awaits sentencing the Sex Crimes.

When you are in a hole-- Keep digging!
I wish they would've saved the taxpayers a lot of money, and his rape victim a lot of fear, by just putting 15 rounds into this worthless sack of excrement.
Close call for the officer. I see most people convicted in court cuffed up immediately upon hearing the jury's decision.
And why only 1 Deputy.
Never had a chance.
Deputy shoulda shoved him in the bathroom for a proper swirly or 5 followed by a drowning.
... and after that door closed behind them, the real ass-whoopin' occurred.
All the additional charges should keep him on the taxpzyers dime for mamy years. Also, cuffs should be put on after the sentence verdict is announced.
Face looks like he was roughed up pretty good. So be it. Not to insult the deputy, but he doesn't appear to be in the prime of his physical life -- and still single handedly beat the snot out of this creep. Goon Squad not withstanding, in Rankin County don't do the crime if you can't... take a badly needed ass whupping.
Oh, and immediately institute a policy of handcuffing convicted felons in the courtroom where a number of husky deputies are present.
