Last Week's Political News

The biggest news event last week didn’t happen. Donald Trump had announced the previous week that he would be arrested on Tuesday, March 21, for allegedly using campaign funds to pay off a porn star in October 2016 for an alleged affair ten years earlier. Got that? Me neither. Apparently District Attorney Alvin Bragg who cooked up this scheme didn’t get it either.

Bragg postponed the grand jury twice last week until this week. Nevertheless, the seven year old Trump indictment and arrest story was number one because the first letter in news cycles is “T” and that stands for “Trump” who is still the number one newsmaker in America. Who chose the word “Woke” to describe those obsessed with all things Trump?

Maybe of more importance, President Biden has managed to lead the USA deeper into the Russian - Ukrainian war while simultaneously brokering a bromance between Xi and Putin who have formed one of the most powerful alliances on earth. Somehow, this military/economic alliance overshadows any threat planet earth faces from climate change. Maybe not.

How far will Biden allow the New World Order (NWO) to advance? What are Xi and Putin’s objectives? Could we be on the verge of World War Three? When will the NWO establish a one world currency? How about a NWO coalition of ruling nations? Who will be the kingmakers in the new coalition of nations?

Speaking of the NWO, the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the goals and accomplishments of the LEFT’s efforts to install critical race theory, radical trans brainwashing, and history-bending disinformation into K-12 curricula. Two years of lockdowns gave parents opportunities to see what ideological zealots were teaching their K-3 graders about the fluidity of sex and gender. We thought smoking in the bathroom was bad back in the day. Nowadays any K-12 student can go into any bathroom or locker room and do … well, it depends on what school authorities say. No need for parents to pay attention to what goes on in bathrooms these days.

A Parents’ Bill of Rights movement has gained traction since parents in Loudoun County, VA, began asking questions at local school board meetings. Reactions to these parents included the Biden DOJ to allude to parents as domestic terrorists. FBI whistleblowers have confirmed that they were assigned to investigate parents who posed dangers to school board members. A grassroots movement of parents across America has drawn enough attention against child abuse via indoctrination that the U.S. House passed the Parents Bill of Rights last Friday in a 213 - 208 vote.

The war for the minds of our children is going full-throttle. Woke folks fund and encourage counter attacks by teachers unions, school boards, Democrats, and legacy media against parents fighting for their rights to educate their children according to their own family values.

On the climate change front, at least one of Biden’s cabinet members, Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said, Americans can “learn from what China is doing” in combating climate change.According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, 55% of China’s energy comes from coal compared with 11% of America’s energy coming from coal. During a House Appropriations Subcommittee meeting last week, Granholm doubled down on her praise of China, ignoring the fact that 30% of the world’s CO2 emissions come from China.

Can just follow the laws we like ?

I already saw what the NWO could do in World War 3 way back in November 1997 when Scott Hall outlasted 59 other competitors to gain victory in the three-ring main event and gain a shot at the WCW world heavyweight championship.

Bragg didn’t indict anyone a jury of his fellow citizens indicted Trump on a reported 30+ charges, several of them criminal. His company has already been convicted and fined for Tax fraud based on the testimony of his CFO. When you see smoke there is a fire. There really must be something to it when DL throws out everything but doesn’t discuss the merits of the case. Republicans are calling for protesting the the rule of law, a sitting US Senator is encouraging him to commit property crimes on his way to the courthouse, ( I wonder if he will when has to take the walk in Atlanta). This is twisted we taught defund the police was crazy, what do we have now. Must be Antifa!

I sure hope he isn’t wrongly convicted like the New York 5.

But we can't mention who owns our state's biggest car dealership chain, and the RINOs pass bills to protect THEM and hurt Musk. Yes, that Leftist is funding insanity in state and local races, especially for DAs. And it's our lives and our children's futures at stake.

Do this. Google "transgender violence against conservatives" and see what results you get. Google has canceled sanity and common sense.

The DA's office had been told that this could not be brought during the time Hizzoner was in office. Ergo the time frame you find so interesting.

And - the state of NY has recently changed its laws on rape as to statute of limitations, which affects the other case he is going to have to defend in NY later this month.

This whole idea, mostly promoted by him, that a Former President shouldn't be subjected to such things. Some of the national media and blog sites even seem to think that "former whatevers" shouldn't have to face consequences because, well, just because of the 'do you know who I am" syndrome. We all could name several.

I think this indictment is the least he has to worry about though; the ones coming out of Georgia and DC will be much more significant and more serious crimes.

Never mind that Bill Clinton paid hush money not just to one woman, but several. He got a pass for that, and lying under oath, and also Whitewater which he and his wife, Hillary, were involved in. Oh, and that national security breach that Hillary skated on - we won't talk about that.
I only wish Trent Lott was alive to see this. He was the one who refused to try Bill Clinton in the Senate. The GOP plays checkers, while the Democrats play chess.

Anonymous said...

@ 7:38 Trent is alive and living well off of Dickie’s dime and Clinton never paid off anybody. Get your facts straight. Trump has ten times the legal issues of Nixon much less the Clintons.

The only people innocent in this crime family is the youngest daughter and son. The rest will be indicted soon enough. They will turn on each other like hyenas too!

Anonymous said...

No one is talking about the slush fund politicians use to pay for all of their hush money. Trump paid his on his own. It didn't cost the people anything. Why isn't anyone complaining about politicians using our money to pay hush money when they get caught.

Republicans in Congress have responded to Trump's looming arraignment by characterizing the criminal justice system as corrupt. Many warn that the present partisan rhetoric could shake public trust in courts by undermining the institutional legitimacy of the criminal justice system. Where did these guys lose their way. What cult has taken over their common sense. This is stain on the Republicans that will cost them dearly with voters in ‘24 and beyond. Chemo isn’t working it’s time to cut the cancer out while there is still time.

6:13 - He wasn't indicted on 30+ charges. If you have a source alleging that provide a link.

The entirety of the MSM is reporting that Trump was indicted for a state misdemeanor of falsely labeling a NDA settlement as "legal services" on his state taxes. Bragg is claiming the misdemeanor is actually a felony by using a novel theory of law that the misdemeanor was committed in order to hide a campaign expenditure (the NDA settlement) and that would be an FEC violation, a federal misdemeanor. The FEC & FBI investigated the NDA payment and decided no crime was committed. Last month, Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign had to pay a $100,000+ fine to the FEC for claiming the funding of the Steele dossier as "legal services". The FEC ruled that the Clinton campaign lied and the expenditure was not for "legal services".

7:29 - During the Clinton impeachment case SCOTUS ruled that a president can be sued in civil court. The decision strongly implies that a sitting president can face criminal charges also. And, what are your sources about what Bragg was told. Links would be great. Also, all of the other investigations are a continuation of the investigations begun in 2015. Why were investigations begun in 2015? Trump announced he was running against the demonstrably corrupt Hillary Clinton. The point of not charging former presidents by partisan DA's for political purposes should be apparent to you on its face. But, it is too late for you to put that genie back in the bottle. The Biden family will be indicted whether before or after he leaves office. Partisan politics is a two-way street and you forfeited the right to complain about it in the future by not acknowledging the dangers of it now.

Per New York law - there is no statute of limitations when one leaves the state.Trump moved to Washington in 2017 and never moved back. So, the 5 years has not run from the date of the last check to Mikey Cohen.

I will start with this, I did not vote for Trump in the past, and I will not vote for him in the future.

Having said that, how anyone, I do mean anyone, can objectively look at what has been attempted, and done, legally against Trump, and find it fair, is an outright liar. That statement is in retrospect to what countless others have gotten away with.

For someone to judge Trump as being more corrupt than any of the other politicians, is a hypocrite of the highest order. If you insist that Trump is somehow less ethical than other politicians, your mental maturity is in question, and your objectivity is non-existent.

What is it, about the man, that causes people to fear him? Fear? Yes, fear. There is no other emotion that causes people to strikeout, as people do against Trump, but fear. Look at some post on this article as they lash out against someone they have never even met.

What is it the Washington, D.C. establishment, that would be both parties, by the way, fear Trump can/would do to threaten their power? Fear? There's no other answer.

Our entire political system, from the local level to the federal level, is operating on a third world level. Yet, some act as if one man, Donald Trump, is the problem.

What this country needs is an outbreak of rational thinking. The citizens need to steady themselves from whatever fear is causing their irrational thought.

Daniel’s articles remind me of that Seinfeld episode where Costanza figures out if he does the complete opposite of his instinct, it must be right. I really wish he would put out weekly sport’s betting picks - his skills might translate with a perfect inverse correlation.

Trump isn’t immune from our laws and he’s found that out in civil cases already. He usually doesn’t fare too well. He’s done enough that something is going to catch up.

Russia is not our ally, we don’t trust them and we shouldn’t. Putin seems to be on the way out so we can see what happens after that. I’m alright with Ukraine destroying their military and hope they can maintain in the meantime.

10:47 - You are not a lawyer. Quit spreading misinformation or show your work with links. Thanks.

The offense alleged by DA Bragg is a state misdemeanor which has a 5-year statute of limitations, but that would mean the SOL has expired and no charge may be made. DA Bragg alleges the alleged offense was part of a conspiracy undertaken in an attempt to avoid properly reporting the expenditure to the federal FEC. Improper reporting to the FEC would have been a federal misdemeanor. The FEC and FBI during the Biden administration investigated the charge of the alleged misreporting and decided not to bring charges. Therefore, DA Bragg claims the alleged state misdemeanor has been elevated to a state felony due to the 'conspiracy' to avoid a federal misdemeanor. This particular state felony charge has a statute of limitations of 7 years, which is still active and doesn't expire until October 2023.

Otherwise, DA Bragg would be left with a meaningless misdemeanor charge and no national press. DA Bragg's solution: invent a make-believe conspiracy that has no underlying charge to support it. Similar to being charged with a conspiracy on a speeding ticket when a radar detector is installed and found in your car: two misdemeanors, but the radar detector is proof of your conspiracy to speed without being ticketed. DA Bragg says that is a felony.

This is banana republic crap. Unfortunately, the genie is out of the bottle now and vengeance must be had. Reminder, a pendulum swings back and forth. Do not complain when it's your ox being gored. You supported this.

Anonymous said...

Keep begging for a way out of this for Trump! Attack Bragg, the law, a jury indicted him folks, 16 to 23 of his fellow citizens ! I guess they along with the judge will be attacked next. No one should be above the law. Don’t you agree or should all investigations of the Biden family be dropped too?

I’m not a lawyer but as I see it here is a DA who has refused to convict felons that have committed murder, rape and other felonies yet he is going after DJT. Does he not realize he has to be as clean as new born baby? The right will tear this man up in their own way for doing this. He only set himself up and when did paying hush money become illegal?

Anonymous said...

6:09 when you falsified business records to circumvent federal campaign finance laws for one, it’s being reported that several felony charges. Trump was invited to the grand jury he refused. Why didn’t he try to defend himself ?

Anonymous said...

@4:02 - are you implying that you are a lawyer? I’ve never heard a lawyer call for vengeance. A key misperception I see constantly from the right wing is their assumption that holding democratic politicians accountable to the law will upset them. I won’t be upset if a politically powerful criminal is caught breaking the law and forced to go through the same process as everyone else, it actually shows the opposite of a banana republic.

Also, google is your friend. I was able to take the commenters description of the issue and find the article which was the very first google result for :New York Times Statute of limitations Trump. It took less time for me to find the article than it did for you to complain about it.

Here’s the article: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/19/us/politics/trump-investigations.html

And if that is too much reading for your worst in class lawyer brain, here is the relevant section:

“ Bookkeeping fraud has a two-year statute of limitations as a misdemeanor and a five-year one as a felony, both of which would normally have expired for payments made to Mr. Cohen in 2017. But New York law extends those limits to cover periods when a defendant was continuously out of state, as Mr. Trump was while living in the White House or at his home in Florida. In addition, during the pandemic, New York’s statute of limitations was extended by more than a year.”

Nice job of suckering people into not realizing these were typical DLdrivel until the end.
DL doesn't remember John Edwards or probably Spiro Agnew or Nixon as other than "heroes".
Then we suddenly are supposed to not see Russia or North Korea or China as our enemies prior to Biden being elected. While they were writing love letters to Trump to oh...maybe get to see classified documents, they became trustworthy.
Of course, in DL world we'd all have pox marks scarring our faces or be blind from measles or not be here as our parents would have died of TB or became sterile from mumps.
Parents should run the school as apparently the last couple of mass school shooters parents were able to do...one set of parents even gifted the AR-15 for Christmas!
The GOP made a big mistakes when they thought they were smart enough to control with the crazies they were revving up with nonsense.
That the former potential inmates of the asylums have media influence and get elected is the result.
It's too bad really, some of these folks could be helped with either meds or adequate supervision.

8:18 - 4:02 here. No I did not imply that I am a lawyer. But I know enough and have personally employed enough lawyers to recognize BS when I hear it. With age comes wisdom.

All that leads to me admit that I was wrong on the statute of limitations in my 4:02 post and that your 8:18 post is correct on the SOL times. My bad. I was wrong. You are right. I haven't looked about the clock stopping if an accused moves out of state, but accept that you have stated it correctly.

However, DA Bragg's case has serious problems due to the novel legal theories that form the basis of the assumed charge. I say 'assumed' since the indictment hasn't been unsealed, yet. But, your summary of it is exactly how the MSM describes it.

The previous DA investigated the same issue and considered charges, but declined to indict. Here is an article where the previous DA questions the legal basis of DA Bragg's indictment due to its reliance upon how a government form was filled, which is normally prosecuted as a misdemeanor, but elevating that misdemeanor to a felony by tying it to a federal crime that wasn't charged:

https://www.theblaze.com/news/cy-vance-jr-trump-indictment#toggle-gdpr

My first question would be 'if the DA is relying upon an alleged federal crime to form the basis of the state felony charge, couldn't Trump get the case removed to the federal courts'? If so, the DOJ or FEC would be in the awkward position of charging a crime they had previously declined. A motion by Trump for a summary judgement for dismissal might be well received by a federal judge, if my facts and theory of the case are right.

But, this case is bigger than all of the trivial legal arguments. In my opinion the overarching problem that everyone of any political stripe should be concerned with is the 'manufactured' nature of the theory the DA's case: A novel theory to charge a felony against #1) a former POTUS who is a member of the political opposition to the local DA: and 2) a declared candidate for POTUS who is leading in national polls for his party's nomination for upcoming national election.

The indictment is politically motivated on its face. Add in the fact that DA Bragg campaigned for the office by claiming that he is the one DA in the country who could successfully indict and convict Trump. The indictment fulfills a political promise. Its political all the way down to its core.

Anonymous said...

38 Felony charges, no misdemeanors ! The Jury Indicted him ! Not Bragg! I just don’t understand how anyone doesn’t get this . Maybe he could get off in Missippi, but in New York he’s going to answer for his crimes!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
