Street Fight in Fondren?

The Democrats are at the gate and there are a few surprises at who showed up for to race.  State Senator David Blount has gotten might comfortable in his seat but Mayor Lumumba shook things up for him a little bit.  Pastor Dwayne Pickett, yes, the Pastor Dwayne Pickett qualified to run against Belhaven's Great White Father.

Hmmm..... who to support? The guy who lets killers use his vehicle or the guy who voted last week to allow Jackson to base water bills on property values? This might get interesting.

Are the Blackmons going to pull a switcharoo?   State Representative Ed Blackmon and State Senator Barbara Blackmon qualified for their respective seats.  No new news there.  However, their sons qualified for their seats as well.  Will the incumbents drop out of their races? Inquiring minds want to know.

State Representative De'Keither Stamps gave up his House seat to run for Public Service Commissioner (Central District).

Check out the list posted below.

Is someone going to tell the good pastor that he used a Crystal Springs address to qualify for a Hinds County post?

8:29, I agree with your point, but its cute that you think it matters or anyone cares in the Hinds county election "validation" process.

It's "The" Fondren

Senate District 29 reaches almost to Crystal Springs. It's conceivable that the Postal Servoce has Crystal Springs addresses that extend into the District.

"Is someone going to tell the good pastor that he used a Crystal Springs address to qualify for a Hinds County post?'

Well, that's nit pickin isn't it? It's close enough for this race.

Who’s in room 210 reading this right now?

Anonymous said...

829 - you tell him. He lives in the Dry Grove precinct of Hinds County. And since you evidently are unfamiliar with where things are, that is between Byram and Learned. Mail addresses for much of that area are Crystal Springs - the closest postal station.

Thanks though. Hate to say it but the Rev ain't as dumb as one might think.

I guess that all depends on where the good pastor claims homestead doesnt it?

Who would point it out to him? The Circuit Clerk or Election commissioners?

90% of the leadership in Jacktown and Hinds county are low level crooks. They steal with the "Con" and not the Gun!

As the good reverend would say. Right. Right.

If this racist pastor lives in the Learned area, it's ironic that it was also home to Richard Barrett.

Well, it is interesting that his Dry Grove address is in Hinds County, is in his name, the taxes get paid yearly (2021 not due until yesterday, not posted as paid but you can pay late with interest), but he doesn't claim the Homestead Exemption. So he's either not living there or too dumb to figure out how to claim homestead. That exemption is worth a few bucks. Info is readily available on the Hinds County landroll.

Give me a Sista Rukia debate with the preacher as a side spectacle!

The Madison living Twitter yappy dog frequently bitches about gerrymandered districts but never has about the abomination that is SD29. SD29 as drawn violates more district composition best practices than you can count.

Will the incumbents drop out of their races?

If so they should consult with Andy Taggart since he had the dance step down cold.

Anonymous said...

So, what does this have to do with Fondren?

Anonymous said...

Can't speak to Bradford, but Lawrence is not qualified for any elected office

Anonymous said...

If only the voter knows (or cares) about how ineffective the Blackmons are they would vote for their seed either.

@829 - what do you see as the problem? His 'mailing address' is Crystal Springs - that doesn't mean he lives in Crystal Springs, but only that CS is the post office that the RFD Postman operated from.

I have two doctors who's offices are east of the mighty Pearl, in Flowood - they both have Jackson mailing addresses. That doesn't make them be in Jackson: their physical address is Flowood (both off of Lakeland Drive)

@10:23 AM, what account? I love online yapping, but the Nextdoor app has gotten boring.

Wow said...

David Blount does not respond to emails from constituents.

He lost me a long time ago.

Anonymous said...

The Fondren elite limousine liberals will vote for Blount. They’re all at andrews parents and Pickett knows nothing about that area
That’s his issue

Anonymous said...

Pastor Dwayne Pickett was invited to give a prayer before a City Council meeting but he would never come down...he was always concerned about his image and angling for something...well this is it!

Anonymous said...

Blount is an arrogant know it all and way out of touch with his district.
Hate that this is his only competition.

The public leeches of Hinds County and Jackson seem to love stirring sh*t up and playing games with each other. They just can't get enough manipulation and power plays. It makes me sick to even think about it.

Cya later Blount.

There ought to be a C of J comic book.

Wait, the 2 Blackmon sons are running against their mother and father ? Wow. What gives ? Is their some family hatred or dispute, or are they just trying to make a name for themselves for future elections, so they can replace mama and daddy one day ?

Bradford is running against Barbara, but yet they gave the same PO Box as their address(es). What's the deal ?

As 10:42 is right. I'm not saying Ed is the best, but Lawrence is a complete idiot.

I see that Bruce Burton is running for office again, this time for Commissioner of Insurance. Is there an office that Bruce hasn't run for ? He's a repeated candidate and repeated loser. God help us if he wins Comm of Insurance. I've had several cases against Bruce, and although he's a nice guy, he knows NOTHING, I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING abut insurance coverage. While Cheney will win that one easily, Cheney should debate him and someone ask him a few questions about insurance coverage. That would be quite entertaining.

Anonymous said...

So the real question is what property does Pickett claim homestead on?

Anonymous said...

Ed & Barbara both dropped out right before the 5:00 deadline on Wednesday from my understanding. Do those boys need health insurance that bad?

Anonymous said...

Ed & Barbara both dropped out right before the 5:00 deadline on Wednesday ...

And then joined Andy Taggart for drinks to celebrate their successful duping of voters and gaming of the system.

Anonymous said...

Ed and Barbara pulled a fast one-

So no one runs against Ed or Barbara due to their political clout in Canton. Both sons qualify to run against them, and then Ed and Barbara withdraw, so their sons have no competition. Smart play but quite underhanded and shady. I would hope the good folks of Canton would see the shadiness of this and not appreciate being mislead...but they won't.

Wow said...

10:20am

Canton does not prefer Democracy. They prefer to be ruled.

@ 9:54 - Picket (or any candidate) does not have to file homestead anywhere. Renters can run for office.

And, according to the MS Supreme Court, in a few rulings over the past few decades, filing of Homestead is not determinative. It is a factor to consider but it is not absolute.

This couldn’t happen to a more deserving white Democrat.

There is a very narrow demographic in Mississippi where white Democrats can survive. It’s between 45% and about 58% BVAP (Black Voter Age Population). When a district is within those percentages, African-Americans make white Democrats feel like they are one of their own. They pretend to be all about diversity..

But as soon as the BVAP approaches 60%, they kick the white Dem to the corner and get one of their own. This was totally predictable.

Regarding Blount/Pickett race - I guess last night's election results prove that most of the people who post on this site don't understand a thing about Jackson.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices.
