More Info Released on Murder of Bay St. Louis Police Officers

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued the following statement.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., Bay St. Louis Police Department officers Branden Estorffe (23 years old) and Steven Robin (34 years old), responded to a call for a welfare check at the Motel 6 in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, located at 1003 Highway 90.

Upon arriving, the two officers encountered a female subject, 43-year-old Amy Anderson, who was sitting in a parked vehicle along with a minor female.

After nearly a 30-minute interaction with Anderson, during which time Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services was called, Anderson discharged a weapon from inside the vehicle striking both officers. Officer Robin received fatal injuries at the scene and Officer Estorffe succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Anderson died at the scene as a result of a gunshot wound to her chest.

“I am heartbroken by this terrible loss of two brave law enforcement officers. I am praying for their family, friends, their fellow officers, and the entire Bay St. Louis community,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “Every single day across Mississippi, our law enforcement members place their lives on the line in constant and repeated acts of selfless sacrifice for their community. They are a key reason that the rest of us are safely and freely able to live our lives. They are the thin blue line.”

“This is a very sad situation, and our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to the families of our lost officers,” said Bay St. Louis Mayor Mike Favre. “We ask that you pray for the City of Bay St. Louis, the Bay St. Louis Police Department and their families and that you keep them in your thoughts in the coming days and weeks during this difficult time.”

“A tragedy occurred here today in the city of Bay St. Louis as two of our finest officers’ lives were taken,” said Bay St. Louis Police Chief Toby Schwartz. “We are gathering facts and will ensure a thorough investigation into this matter.”

This continues to be an open and ongoing investigation. Upon completion of this investigation, additional details will be made public.

Kingfish note: More info about killer.

It’s amazing how quickly they can release information when it’s one of their own who is the victim.

We need idiot control-

1:55 PM. It got released so quickly because the bi#ch that did it punished herself immediately. No investigation needed. Read the details. They talked with her 30 minutes. They did not beat her, point guns at her, cuff her. They allowed her to sit in her car and talk. Guess people like you can't use that narrative for your agenda. Go find another blog to waste your life on.

The two officers most likely treated her with more respect than she was giving he own child. The call was a welfare check call, meaning they were there to see if she and her kid were ok. They would be alive today if they responded the way people like you accuse them of always being....guns pointed, slamming to the ground, etc. Maybe if they had dragged her from the car, subdued they, cuffed her....they would be home for Christmas with their families. Instead, it appears they gave her respect and died for it. Glad taxpayers don't have to waste money on her miserable existence.

The minor child will remember this for life. RIP Officers. What we desperately need in this world is MH treatment/control.

@3:02 - she was a veterinarian. I’d bet there is more to this than a 30 minute talk and then a shooting. i don’t know how many officers you have talked to, but respect and common decency aren’t typical traits on display. I don’t know anything about these officers other than what has been reported, but it would be pretty naive to assume any officer acted professionally or with respect without supporting evidence. It’s a 50/50 chance at best. If you don’t like my take, blame the bad apples who spoiled the bunch.

Some people are so quick to judge LEO’s. Those men were doing their jobs. Please keep in mind they were at a Hotel so what does that tell you about the mother? I won’t comment because it’s a list of things that we know about. With that being said the child is suffering and so are the families of the two officers. These are the kind of guys you want in your community, unless you’re a bleeding heart liberal. And like a previous poster said, Mental Health Support is needed, but even more is the eradication of illegal substances which are flowing through our Southern Border at an alarming rate, while China laughs all the way to bank.

At 1:55, you are what is wrong with this world. You are a worthless POS. These officers lost their lives trying to help a child. I would vent for ever on your comment, but it would just push some crazy insane narrative that you want.

Rest in peace officers. Prayers for the whole community

I can see a time in the near future where no one will apply to be in law enforcement. By that time the Liberals will have passed laws taking guns away from law abiding citizens Any chaos will be the law of the land.

@4:37 - so to my point, why is it wrong to expect a simple report like this with some basic facts every time an officer kills someone? Why does it seem to always take weeks or months to get any info in those cases? Those victims had loved ones to who would like to know.

3:37 I learned a long time ago you get what you give from LEO. So your summary is an indictment of your treatment of them. You probably get everything you deserve.

Earlier reports said the two were 'ambushed'. That narrative was pushed all day long on SuperTalk. Not true.

3:37 is way out of line. If this is the same person that is continuing to slur these cops, why are you continuing to let them bump their gums Kingfish. You usually shut them down, don't you? I'm interested to see if you post this.

KF will censor me for laughing at Todd Mardis or the Mayor but will allow folks to slander a cop.

I guess its his blog, and if I don't contribute financially anymore I cant complain.
Just has changed my perspective a bit.

@9:50 - that was my comment you are complaining about. I don’t think it’s wrong to point out differences in the way shootings are handled when police are the victim or the perpetrator. It’s a conversation that needs to happen as there are clear and undeniable differences. I don’t want any officer to die doing their job, especially a young guy like the 23yo who was probably just starting out his career. For all I know, these were 2 of the good ones, but it’s pretty tough to make assumptions like that based on the track record of police. My comments are directed more generally at policing and not these 2 individual officers.

This is a very unusual set of circumstances. It’s rare for a police officer to be killed on the job, but for a professional woman with kids present to open fire and kill two officers just seems almost implausible. It could be as simple as a mental health emergency and the officers tried their best to talk her down and she snapped, but I certainly don’t automatically assume that police behaved professionally or effectively in any situation. Once again, you can blame the bad apples that spoiled the bunch for my cynicism of police.

Being a police officer is obviously a difficult job. In a country and state where every person they contact likely has a gun, it’s a fine line to weigh their own safety vs the safety of the public. If police are going to be the primary first contact for mental illness, they need to be trained to handle those situations. The basic qualifications for candidates who want to become police officers are too low. The mental health support officers receive is basically non-existent. Police forces already account for a big chunk of of every town’s budget, but we clearly are not spending that money very efficiently.

10:47. Thank you for back tracking. It is a step in the right direction. Those cops don't deserve to be assumed upon. Get on the ones that you can prove have done something. Generalizations is part of what's destroying our society.

She lived in Madison for several years before moving to the Coast. Her kids were popular and I am just sick for them. Had to be drugs. Nothing else makes sense.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
