Water Pressure Improves

The city of Jackson issued the following statement.

The O.B. Curtis Water Plant made significant gains overnight and into this morning. The total plant output has increased to 86 PSI. This is approaching our goal of 87 PSI or better. The outlook is very stable. However, additional challenges as repairs and adjustments are made do leave the potential for fluctuations in progress.

All tanks made gains overnight. Water has now reached the Suncrest Tank. Most of Jackson should now have pressure. A few remaining pockets in South Jackson may still be experiencing low or no pressure.

Work continues in the plant today on both the membrane and conventional systems. This work is initially focused on increasing the production ability of the O.B. Curtis facility. Increasing the production ability will create more stability in water supply.

In order to repair the ammonia leak that was identified earlier this week, officials will be transferring product from the leaking tank. During the transfer of product and while emptying the leaking tank for repair, there may be a controlled burn-off of the gas that may cause a visible flare into the sky. There is no need for concern, and there is no threat to the public. The burn-off will take place intermittently throughout the day today. An environmental specialist is onsite performing this operation with numerous safety personnel present.

Teams from Georgia and Florida rural water associations are also on site. They are assisting with repairing and restoring many of the automated systems that will support better management of the production of water and water quality.

We remain under a boil water notice and will immediately alert residents when that changes.

Kingfish note: Meanwhile, the Mayor warns, warns, the improved water pressure may break pipes.

"As they're able to increase the pressure at the plant to levels that it has not seen in many years, the challenge then becomes whether we have pipes that rupture across the city. We know that we have brittle pipes, we have aged pipes, just as as our water treatment facilities are aged. And so that's a challenge that we're going to have to be on the ground and dealing with," Lumumba said while speaking with reporters Friday. Article.

Um, it will be the same PSI it has been for the last few years.  Just check the Mayor's statements ever since the ice storm whenever water pressure is restored.

That dude’s not mayoring. He plays the part of a mayor on TV by day and hits the clubs by night.

His Honor Chowke Lumbubbles is closely monitoring the perception of low water pressure from his 5-star suite in Ft. Lauderdale, right?

Anonymous said...

These updates should be coming from the Governor's office and NOT from the city that created this mess in the first place.

Anonymous said...

He's just a belt fed crew served excuse maker.

There may be breaks in the pipes, I would assume after being at low pressure in saturated ground, the dirt that may help hold the joints together has shifted. As pressure comes back up there may not be natural bracing against the tees and elbows.

I don't believe anything the City says.

Anonymous said...

The tone of the mayor's press release is totally unnecessary.

I’ll never take Antar’s for a damn thing. 2 weeks ago, he was proclaiming how safe the water is. Before that, it was how safe Jackson is. He’s a no good liar. The long term solution they’re talking about needs to start with his resignation. He’s just propping himself up in front of cameras while real men clean up his mess.

Anonymous said...

Just don't drink it, cook with it, brush your teeth with it, give it to pets, wash dishes with it...

It's ok to bath with it, if you like eye infections, gastroenteritis, skin infections...

Other than that, the water pressure has improved.

Ding ding ding ding ding... we have a winner!

I don’t live in Jackson but I got enough since to know that this water problem started long ago, the mayor asked tator for help and he said no it’s your responsibility, thankfully joe Biden stepped in and now all of a sudden tator is all for helping the welfare city.

Anonymous said...

I'm thinking maybe this is what the mayor hoped all along would happen. Problems getting repaired and he gets to not be involved at all or worry about it.

Anonymous said...

@2:50 PM Troll with fake news.

Anonymous said...

He's always "monitoring" something.

Right ?

But by now, I'm guessing this "mayor" landed in Miami a few hours ago, and has been at the pre game parties
for awhile.

Anonymous said...

2:50, Tater is not a favorite of mine but he had already stepped in before Slo Joe even knew anything was going on.

Anonymous said...

My apologies if this question has already been asked and answered,

But who was "O. B. Curtis" ?

I know he was never a Mayor ... but who was he and what did he do ?

Anonymous said...

My elderly relative has a newly infected wound after using the Jackson water. Have to keep more than your mouth shut when you bathe.

Anonymous said...

@2:50 Lumumba wanted a check from the Governor so he could pay his cronies to "fix" the problem. 2 weeks ago Lumumba said he didn't want the Governor to take over, because he would lose control.
The Governor saved us. I swear some of you would go without water instead of giving the Governor or Republicans any credit.

@2:50 if you don’t live in Jackson you don’t know what’s been going on!

A city's water system is a municipal, not a state responsibility. Consequently, Jackson's administration, e.g. the Mayor and his designees are responsible and accountable for its management and maintenance. If overwhelmed by the nature and extent of damage to the system, a wise/shrewd/effective leader would have done what is currently being done by the state, under Governor Reeves leadership --- identified the nature and extent of the problem; developed a plan to fix it; implemented the plan; worked toward accomplishment of plan goals. All we heard from the Mayor over the past few years was ---it (the water system) was bad, a lot of money was needed, the problem was caused by somebody else, e.g. white flight, the state not paying its water bills, the state/governor's unwillingness to help. No mention of black flight, incorrect and unbilled water bills, the moratorium on cutting off bills of those who did not pay;a lack of aggressive hiring of needed staff; a plan to deal with the issues identified by the EPA. Now within days of state intervention, it is very clear that the public and even the city council had no clue how badly things were being managed/mismanaged by the city. Whose fault? the Mayor's! When you're overwhelmed, you ask for help nicely, you present a reasonable, verifiable plan and you don't insult the people who can help you. Simple.

In about 6 months or so the City won't be running the Water Department.
The Legislature will force the City to accept a regional Water Authority.
The City will have a vote or two at the table as will Byram and Hinds County.
The Governor and Lt Governor will appoint Board members also.
The Board members will be able to hire professional staff.
Then if you don't pay your water bill, you will be cut off.
Straight pipers will be prosecuted and everyone will get a bill.

Antar will take credit for all progress once he’s back from his long party weekend in Miami.

@ 2:50 - it's the “sense” you're lacking.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't normally do this, but “I don’t live in Jackson but I got enough since to know”.

You have enough “since to know”, but you don't have enough sense to know which word goes where.

I'll let myself out.

Anonymous said...

2:50…it’s Sense, not since….it’s Tater not Tator to you and what democrat stepped in to help the ignunt Mayor? The loathsome president made a few dips raging comments, but what’s new? Also, 5:38, Byram is in the process of getting its own water system of 3 wells and elevated tanks. Don’t say the government is “giving” it to them because the government has in some fashion assisted many many many municipalities and this is a prime example of why. And by the way, Richard White, the Mayor of Byram is filing a lawsuit against the City of Jackson over the water issue. I really think it should be referred to as the Village of Jackson. Sorry for the soapbox rant but I will say that this is causing a lot of businesses to leave Jackson and move towards the other counties and build new offices. That’s great for us in Construction since we won’t have to comply with “Jobs For Jacksonians”. ….you know that bullshit requirement to work minority citizens who are a product of a defunct school district ‘cause , they ain’t scholars as the so called educators like to refer to them as.

Anonymous said...

@4:53 PM - I penned about that in a different thread. If you can't drink it, don't bath in it nor wash your hands. The advice coming from government entitities is reckless and dangerous.

Yes, it's a biatch if you can't bath in your own shower unless you boil water, let it cool, and then take a whore's bath.

Somebody above said...

"My apologies if this question has already been asked and answered,

But who was "O. B. Curtis" ?

I know he was never a Mayor ... but who was he and what did he do ?"

My understanding is that Mr. O.B. Curtis was, in the eyes of the profession, a legendary Civil Engineer that accomplished a lot of projects in central Mississippi and primarily for the City of Jackson.

It’s a perception of a takeover, and the Mayor will veto your takeover.

It Could Happen said...

Come on folks, the mayor's trip to Miami was legit. He was picking up bottled water and recruiting certified plant operators. Honest. Right?

Kingfish said...

He cancelled the trip and stayed in Jackson today after JJ posted that flyer.

Anonymous said...

@2:50…so the State has the responsibility now to pay for EVERYONE’S water system? Hope you are a troll, otherwise, you are such a brain dead leftist that no amount of reasoning can dissuade you from your argument unless it tangibly effects your pocketbook…THEN you’ll scream like a wild pig stuck with outrage and indignation.

Anonymous said...

KF, I wouldn't put it past that charlatan to fly out on a private jet to Ft. Lauderdale for an overnight visit.

Anonymous said...

2:50, what stratosphere have you been living in. You're hanging around the wrong people. PAY ATTENTION!!!

Anonymous said...

4:44 I can’t help but laugh. I’ve done the same thing. Be prepared to be told to do your own damn research and or dude, google it yourself.

American Academy of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology recognizes the use of “bleach baths” in emergency circumstances and for individuals with certain skin conditions. These should be limited to 2x per week.

Jacksonians will need a jug of FEMA, store-bought, or boiled water to execute step 5.🥴

1. Turn on water and adjust to warm temperature.
2. As tub is filling, add 1/4 to 1/2 cup unscented household bleach.*
3. To sufficiently dilute the bleach, let tub tub fill (40ish gallons).**
4. Once full, soak for 5-10 minutes without immersing face.
5. Rinse with clean (unbleached) water.
6. Pat dry.
7. Apply heavy moisturizer.

*A little bleach goes a long way. (Yes, the article said that.)
** Direct contact with bleach and bleach not sufficiently diluted can damage skin and hair follicles. Avoid inhaling bleach fumes.

I’m getting a real kick out of the sideshow that is “BENNIE THOMPSON’S SEARCH FOR ANTAR’S PLAN” 🤣

2 weeks ago — Bennie wants to see THE PLAN the mayor told him he had. Bennie said THE PLAN should be “widely circulated” to instill some confidence in the public. Antar’s dumbass said Bennie hadn’t seen THE PLAN cause he’s too preoccupied with the Jan 6 committee. Oops. Probably not a good idea to concoct yet another red herring, especially one aimed straight at the congressman.

2 days ago — Bennie, having none of it, stated simply, “I continue to look for THE PLAN.”😂😂😂

"THE PLAN"? A plan for exactly what? A plan for dealing with the broken water plant? Now would "THE PLAN" be a sub-part of oh, say, something like a
"MASTER PLAN"? Have you ever heard Chowke Antar utter the phrase "Master Plan" in his life? Did you ever hear former Mayor Tony Yarber utter the phrase "Master Plan" during his tenure? Why is that, right?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
