D.L. Gardner: When Does the Emergency End?

We’re entering the third year of COVID, a worldwide pandemic, a health emergency that has spun off multitudes of other emergencies many of which have been purely political. We have masked up, social distanced, washed hands, quarantined inside, and locked down all in the name of a health emergency going into its third year.

How long do health emergencies last? That depends on who’s answering. The government? We’re talking about three levels of elected government: federal, state, and local. All have actively stretched their authority to mandate behaviors. Dig a little deeper and we’ll find lots of other authorities who have mandated behaviors. How big a role has politics played in these mandates compared with the roles of science and medicine?

Until recently, law has played little to no role in the COVID health emergency drama. Authorities have mandated their mandates and hundreds of thousands have died. Society has been turned upside down to the point we can hardly tell whether we’re living in reality or virtual reality.

The Supreme Court is hearing two cases regarding President Biden’s vaccine mandates: NFIB/Ohio v. Dept. of Labor, concerning the OSHA mandate, and Biden v. Missouri, over the CMS mandate.

Presidential candidate Joe Biden said he didn’t know whether he would even take a Trump vaccine. His running mate questioned the safety of Trump’s vaccines, too … at the time.

Magically, after the election Biden and Harris followed the science, were vaccinated, and announced the vaccines would shut down COVID. Seemingly overnight the woke LEFT crowd embraced vaccines as the panacea and silver bullet to stop COVID completely and forever. Hooray!

It’s funny how the politics of health, safety, and elected officials have affected every aspect of our lives 24/7/365. Which raises the question again: How long do health emergencies last?

Traditionally, justices listen to lawyers from both sides, asking questions as needed to clarify points. In this case lawyers representing states opposed to vaccine mandates would argue against lawyers representing the federal government. So, it startled some court watchers to hear Justice Breyer blurt out that a vaccine mandate would “prevent 100% of cases.” He also blurted there were “750 million new COVID cases yesterday.” Out of 330 million Americans?

For a while, it seemed three of the justices (Breyer, Kagan, and Sotomayor) were presenting their own cases justifying vaccine mandates. Justice Sotomayor said, “We have hospitals that are almost at full capacity with people severely ill on ventilators. We have over 100,000 children, which we’ve never had before, in serious condition, and many on ventilators.”

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. currently has 3,342 confirmed pediatric hospitalizations with COVID. Somebody did not check Facebook Fact Check before making these outlandish claims.

Fortunately the other six justices limited their questions and comments to the law. Justice Coney Barrett asked, “When does the emergency end? I mean, a lot of this argument has been about Congress’s failure to act. Two years from now, do we have any reason to think that COVID will be gone or that new variants might not be emerging?”

How will the Supreme Court rule in the two cases against President Biden’s vaccine mandates? The government’s lawyers were calling for a quick ruling since the COVID pandemic is an emergency. “When does the emergency end?” Good question.

It ends when enough people quit complying.

For maybe the first time, I agree with Gardner, AKA Mr. Obvious.

Usual dribble, I am sure, didn’t waste my time, neither should anyone….

Dr, Sotomayor is an idiot-

It has become a very profitable industry, making millions and giving unbridled power for many on the left. The "science" says cha-ching.

Comply !!!

DL, did you get the vaccine? Your writing here makes it sound like you did and I’m disappointed!

9:29, why are you disappointed? He should be able to get the vaccine if he chooses, right? Are you disappointed that he may not agree with your obvious belief that the vaccine is worthless, or worse, dangerous? Maybe you should mind your own business.

When people quit dying the emergency will be over. The only reason it is still here is the selfish, ignorant fools who refuse to get vaccinated and spread delta and allow Omicron to mutate and spread.

Several hospitalists are speaking out now. The perverse financial incentives given the hospitals are making them the new killing fields. Compensation for giving the 'test', compensation if they test positive, compensation if they are admitted, compensation if they are given remdesivir, compensation for the ventilator, compensation for death 'from/with' covid. If you are indeed in your 'right' mind - you will research. Start with Dr. Peter McCullough.

You’ve been programmed.

KF, why did UMC stop posting their chart that showed vax status of people currently in hospital? Those charts were interesting. Last chart was posted in Nov when the vax rate in hospital hit 25%.

Four years ago today we were talking about foot-wash-stations on college campi.

Nothing has changed but the subject. Liberals are still in charge and in control. Conservatives may be fooled by being allowed, sometimes, to ride shotgun, up-top (and even hold the reins for a bit), but they get dumped at the next line-station.

Gardner is not a doctor or a lawyer, but acts like both. If he could write, he could ba a writer.

Has the new Hornady injection been authorized for 8:04 yet? 100% guaranteed he won't die "from COVID", even though he might still die "with COVID" or be counted as a "COVID hospitalization" for UMMC's accounting purposes.

A fox with Covid killed my chickens. According to the punked for profit rules… my chickens died of Covid.

You all will be dead, but your grandchild will know you were wrong.

DL, when 40%+ of humans won't mask up or vaccinate (and we didn't have enough effective masks until now), and another percentage can't figure out how to wear even a good mask properly, and when those like you just can't do math or science, forever is how long it will last or until it mutates so effectively, our species is extinct.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
