Jabbing at Germantown

Some gentlemen at Germantown High School engaged in a little debate recently.  Although the arguements did not reach the heights explored by Cicero, there was no lack of motivation among the participants.

The Madison County School District issued the following statement last week.

When students make poor decisions, we are quick to respond with appropriate disciplinary action. The recent incident of a fight at Germantown Middle School involved a situation that started off campus and spilled over into school. None of the students involved had a prior history of disciplinary infractions in our district, but inappropriate behavior such as fighting is not tolerated within our school communities. In such cases the highest measures of disciplinary action are pursued. At Madison County Schools we are committed to safety, and our focus is on outstanding academics, arts, and athletics. Situations on campus that detract from that focus are investigated, and per guidelines in our student handbook disciplinary measures can include removal from the school community and referral to alternative school.

Oh well, at least no one fell out of the ceiling into the teachers' bathroom.

Is this the same fight from the video earlier this week, just spilled outside, or is Germantown just reusing the same statement from the first fight?

"In such cases the highest measures of disciplinary action are pursued" So, were they all expelled?

Well at least in the 60's we used to go down the street to a vacant lot a block from the school AND for the record our "tough guys" would have beat the snot out of these punks.

Not much worth in a blog that can't give the reader a video that will actually work. Thanks though....for this waste of time. Maybe the staff at Zoe's Kitchen can get er done. LOL.

Looks like my HOA annual meetings. Bunch of emotionally retarded adult children fighting and yelling. Usually consisting of the ones in charge and the ones that have been in charge on the past.

Let the Madison County Sheriff's department takeover!

No surprises here. School is going down. Admin sucks.

Cicero had a speech impediment and these buffoons have no excuse for speaking as if they have a mouth full of marbles.

Alright, Madison County School Board. There is obviously a problem at Germantown Schools. Fix it.

Didn't shoot each other and took it to the parking lot before/after school. All good except the jumping in when the other kid got the upper hand.

Video works just fine. Why are you here?

All students involved should be suspended for the semester and sent to the alternative school. If they aren't, then it will continue to happen.

Anonymous said...

10:56 : No it doesn't.

@11:13
What you are referring to is called expulsion not suspension

Yes it does it you are currently signed in to youtube and have one of google’s tracking cookies. Just like how the facebook videos work if you are signed in and have a facebook tracking cookie. Kingfish doesn’t give a damn about your privacy. He is running a gossip blog!

Meh, this is last week anyway.

Ah, blessed be the child.

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.” “Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. ' ”

Seems to be working, just maybe not right here.

Old news....

Parents may want to ask questions at the next MC District board meeting. Naw, that is to easy to show up and do such a thing. Some would rather moan, groan and keyboard pound.
FEB 7 is your day to be famous.

I guess the Germantown school bouncers had them take it outside.

Anonymous said...

12:29, you must be affiliated with the school district.

WHY in the hell does anyone have to register and speak to the board. Its been widely reported that Germantown schools are in disarray. All five board members have seen the video and read every comment on the internet about the issue. They don't need to be informed, they need to act.

The next board meeting should include an executive session where the board interrogates all the worthless principals, coaches and athletic directors at Germantown Middle School and Germantown High School on what has been going on. Someone needs to come clean or all of them need to lose their job.

1:00 : Most public school admin in this tri county area are running mini jails since covid came along. They no longer give a rats ass about education. And most are also liberal to the bone and in many cases hold extreme prejudice to those who don't look like them. Oh wait , that is Hinds County.

I don't remember fights like that at my high school. Guys bouncing around? Are they trying to be Cassius Clay? In my hometown if someone wanted to fight, he fought, got the guy on the ground, and pummeled him.
Me? I never picked a fight but learned at age 6, I could not run from a fight.
Why are they standing around dancing?

@ 1:00 pm
1) Wrong- I have no affiliation with the public schools or a child in any schools in the area. The one time I had a concern in the public schools years ago, I walked into the school on lunch break and asked to the principal. Next, was a phone call with the district office. The issue was resolved in about 3 days with positive feedback from the principal and district office.
2) Agree, there should be closed session by the district board to address leadership/ faculty concerns.

Last- public school board meetings are exactly what they are. Policies are policies regarding requesting to be on any agenda.
We will see or hear how important this really is to parents and citizens on Feb 7, 2022. We will also then realize who has the guts or who is going to whine on blogs and social media.

Government doesn’t have any standards of accountability beyond Shad. So unless a principal or coach is embezzling public funds, you people are on your own. Good luck. My kids go to a private Christian Academy.

Doe deer go into rut, not bucks. Well, unless deer are also among the transgendered now.

Maybe virtual learning will become the norm and maybe it's not a bad idea. Imagine not having to pay for buildings, buses, bond issues, lawsuits and all of the bullshit in public schools.

Anonymous said...

Yes, the board should question the leadership at both GHS and GMS. Where were you during this fight? Why do you have such high turnover? Why are you scoring SO low in the accountability model?

And, for the public . . . you can't expel a student. It is called a Free & Appropriate education. They can only be sent to the Alternative School.

Broken system.

None of this with Germantown should surprise anyone. When the county grew with tons of subdivisions that qualified for no money down mortgage financing options, the writing was on the wall. Not enough Ashbrookes and Johnstones to compete against the Ridgefields and Devlin Springs. Like it or not, that’s why there’s a difference in Madison city schools and Madison county schools.

Anonymous said...

The administration at both GMS and GHS are the problem but for completely different reasons.

At GMS, they want to be seen as the cool school and want to be friends with the students. They discourage homework, play loud music in the courtyard and let students get away with more. The GMS cheer and dance teams got into some issues last year that were highly inappropriate. It’s a culture problem at GMS. Someone needs to realize it’s a school and not a party.

At GHS, they want the athletic success of Madison Central and the entire school revolves around athletics. Their big academic initiative is creating a sports marketing class. They are way behind academically, and they celebrate mediocrity. The administration at GHS is all about sports. The band is good, so they get some attention, but students that aren’t good athletes basically get pushed to the back of the line.

The board will not be able to fix Germantown schools without changing the administration at both schools. Don’t even try to reform the schools with the current group in place. Fire them all. Principals. Coaches. Counselors. All of them.

I am so impressed with the Germantown schools! Madison is the place to be. Top notch schools and none of the problems they have in Jackson.

Anonymous said...

I don’t have a dog in this fight but it does seem like something is wrong at those schools. Hopefully they can figure it out. Hate to see any area school plagued by terrible behavior. This hurts all of us in the Metro area. I thought those schools were excellent.

When y’all gonna send in videos of the white kids fightin.

Kingfish said...

Nothing stopping you from sending them to me

@7:19

If we had had these phones/cameras in the 60's there would be libraries full of fight videos. Usually regular guys or jocks against the "hoods" as they were called then....all white on white fights. I don't know what the hell's wrong with these white kids today. LOL

@ 4:55 - What Madison City Schools?

Anonymous said...

8:38 is exactly right, it's merely the technology that has changed. On the other hand, where I went to school, it was one on one violence -- and lots more blood than these jerks. This video was highly reminiscent of the early scene in 2991 A Space Odyssey -- few blows actually thrown. More about display. IMO.

I remember one lunchtime fist-fight, circa 1959, in the cafeteria that was actually pretty darned good. Excellent boxing skills, blood, nobody went down and nobody quit. The next day the pair had to apologize to everybody. The priest in charge feigned great indignity over the "fisticuffs." He was a little Irishman and you could tell he really loved that boys would mix it up.

It was a different world. And a better one.

Take them to the bleachers at the football field and run them till they puke and then run them some more. Need to burn off all that built up energy.

Anonymous said...

It's not that they are fighting as this has always been with us humans. It's that we know there is a really good chance that one or more of these boys will shoot or be shot because of it. THAT is the difference folks and we all know it.

The priest had a cauliflower ear and crooked nose.

I am a parent of two Germantown High students. I have read all of these comments and have been in tears, especially 5:53. There is so much truth to that post that it hurts.

Part of the frustration that GHS parents have is that it seems there is an unofficial policy of "If Madison Central does it, it must be bad." Madison Central has great success athletically and academically - and they celebrate that success. I have seen on every news station about the kid that received the commission to West Point. A couple months ago, they were parading a student that scored the top score in the world on an AP test.

That stuff happens at GHS as well - maybe not as much but it happens. And you never hear of it. In the last five years, there have been service academy appointments, full scholarships to prestigious schools, high ACT scores - but you barely hear a peep about it.

But let a barely C student who terrorizes the school, disrespects teachers and is a terrible all around person get a football scholarship to Holmes Community College and its shouted from the rooftops.

The biggest celebrations of students from GHS in recent memory are Hannah Everhart and Branson Robinson. Hannah was on American Idol. Maybe I'm reaching here - but they celebrated her despite the fact that she was kicked out of school for behavior issues and ended up dropping out all together. "Always a Maverick," one of the principals said on Facebook.

Branson is one of the football players in this video. He signed with Georgia. Its even odds on what happens first - he scores a college touchdown or gets kicked out for behavior.

8:50 - If you can stop crying long enough, let us know why Germantown does not get the recognition and press coverage you feel MC gets. Is there a media plot? Is the school to blame for not issuing press releases? Does the local rag have it in for GHS? Be specific.

The board of aldermen of Gluckstadt need to vote on business sign ordinances and neighborhood square footage ordinances very soon. You attract clientele by what you set as criteria. City and school officials need to work hand in hand and set boundaries. Like it or not, you can’t cry about the results when there has never been any rhyme or reason or planning for this growth. Get organized and get a plan Gluckstadt and Germantown.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
