Street Preachers Sentenced (Updated)

Jackson Municipal Court Judge Jeff Reynolds, sentenced Allan Grant Siders and Bryan Peden on September 21 for simple assault against Matthew Camp.

Siders is fined $500 dollars and six months in jail (no early release without Judge's permission) and Peden is fined $500 and three months in jail (no early release without Judge's permission).  Siders and Peden engaged in verbal and physical menacing and other threatening behavior on multiple occasions against Mr.Camp while he was walking and/or patronizing businesses in Fondren..

Siders and Peden are members of a pro-life group that has protested outside the Jackson Women's Health Organization, located in The Fondren. The details are contained within the court document below:  (Note:  some disturbing language).

Update: Attorneys Cody Gibson and Joel Dillard represent the defendants and issued this statement:

We are appealing and will vigorously contest this assault on the civil liberties we all enjoy as Americans. The government cannot retaliate against a preacher of the Gospel for sharing his message on the public sidewalk. The decision was erroneous and clearly unconstitutional under the First, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments.  Any preachers with questions about their free speech rights should seek legal advice.   Setting bonds in the amount of $500,000.00 is unconstitutional in this case and should be concerning as essentially it blocks reasonable access to appeal the decision.

This is insane. I can’t believe this sentence was passed down in America, much less Mississippi.

Anonymous said...

Dang, they should have just murdered Camp. They would have got less time.

Anonymous said...

Good. Maybe those scumbags will get the message.

Anonymous said...

These guys longer sentences than most Jackson murderers.

Well done, Judge Reynolds!!

So I can't send them a care package while they do this noble time ?

As to all three defendants, Judge Reynolds was right on the law and on its application to the facts of this case. Very well done!

More and more America's religious fundamentalists are allowing themselves to become emotionally primed and ready to join a mob on any of several issues while being oblivious to their decline among the young. Many of the self righteous zealots ignorantly lean closer and closer to the Westboro Baptist church's dogma. They are as ungodly as those they hate.

Only a degenerate hedonist like Kingfish would celebrate the punishment of these heroes who selflessly defend the life of the unborn.

I hope Jesus is there for them in the jail cells at night. bwahahaha

This poor guy. This is why you don't move to The Fondren.

Has anyone ever see or heard of a 27 page order from a city court judge?
Can we get some of this judge's attention on Jackson crime?

Celebrated ? How. All I did was post the opinion and give a brief synopsis of what the judge did

Reynolds tends to issue opinions in controversial cases. See David Archie case. Would be nice if more muni judges did.

if only mr camp could have exercised his 2nd amendment right to open carry. these so called “preachers” would have left him alone..

if mr camp doesn’t have a firearm, i suggest getting one now and learning how to use it because these mentally unstable people are the type to go looking after the jail sentence is served.

lock and load..

While this verbal abuse took place 3 murders, 17 rapes,399 robberies and 130 assualts were commited in Jackson.
What is this judge doing about this?

Anonymous said...

These moronic bullies got exactly what they deserved. And in jail, they're going to have the chance to proselytize to some sho' nuff sinners - who aren't likely to take kindly to it.

@2:23 The judge does not control what comes before him. This was one of the, as you say, '130 assaults' that occurred in the City of Jackson at that time, which happened to deal with a complex Constitutional issue, and Judge Reynolds handled it beautifully.

The abusers become the abused. It’s a great American story.

Like Daniel in the Lion’s Den and the Ancient Christian martyrs of Caligula’s and Nero’s bloody circus. These persecuted Christian Warriors will fond their glory in the Kingdom of the Lord.

Im late getting to this game,,, What did Mr Camp do to get this treatment from these assailants?

Anonymous said...

@4:04 Looks like he had the audacity to walk near them. Sounds like they learned his name and that made him a tangible target for their rantings.

Anonymous said...

At page 16 of the order, the court found that "Defendants engaged in a campaign of fear to intimidate and harass Mr. Camp, part of their larger domestic terrorism operation." Yet, some still rush to defend their actions, call them "heroes," and elevate them to sainthood.

"Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’"

While this seems stiff here are my thoughts.
1. The pink house is legally able to exist. I am pro-life and wish it did not but it does.
2. Just because they are trying to stop abortions, which I am against, they do not have the right to harass people, even the ones going to the pink house.
3. If this does not stop there will eventually be someone killed. And don't say they are killing people in the pink house because I know. the only way to get the attention of these extremists like the Boyd clad is to snatch a knot in someone's ass.
4. The businesses in Fondren have done nothing. I know the idea is that they harass the patrons enough the businesses will turn on the pink house. This is not fair to the businesses.
5. You don't really see Dr. Boyd going to these extremes. He is an instigator. He has always been that way. Known him for 30 years.

Thank God. Literally. These street preachers are not of God. They are full of hate for all. They misinterpret scripture and spew it out to their ignorant followers, such as 1:50 PM and 3:54. They are mentally deranged and quite dangerous. They are harmful to businesses and innocent bystanders.

@4:50 PM
Killing babies is the worst sin imaginable. There is no defense for baby killers and their conspirators and defenders.

Does not note that the "victim" (allegedly curled in the fetal position in "terror") is a practicing State AG's attorney. He told the suspects, "What are you going to about it?" and other fighting words during the confrontations. Seems like one Good Ole Boy lawyer, possibly the relative of another lawyer, feigning "fear" over a public verbal confrontation with protestors.

Disorderly? Certainly. But jail time for "assault" when not a single blow was taken? When the entire group goes to the same Jui Jitsu place, and the attorney, who should know better, essentially tells them to throw down?

This is unconstitutional BS with a city judge helping out a NOT helpless State attorney. This is so wrong.

So, the AG can "raid" her stepmom, and a State AG attorney can get jerkwad antiabortion protestors jailed. No justice. Our Miss. bar is a JOKE.

I'd respect the ACLU if they took this up, even when it's not their political flavor. And, no, I don't think boneheads like the suspects are anything but counterproductive. But when BLM folks trot about with megaphones with impunity, but pro life zealots are jailed, there is an imbalance in our judicial system.

jackson municipal court and reynolds are nothing but a joke
lawyers for the defendants have already appealed the matter to hinds county court, which is a real court , not a stinking kangaroo court, and the bond has been reduced to 1000 dollars which is the maximum amount that can be set it a matter such as this pursuant to state law.
reynolds is going to have to answer to the mississippi commission on judicial performance due to his illegal antics in this case.
remember where you read it first.

Anonymous said...

Why did they target repeatedly mr camp specifically? Is he a biz owner or resident there near the site of protests?

Anonymous said...

Sorry fellas, but even preachers are not allowed to threaten others with bodily harm (I will strike you with this bible) or issue veiled threats (we will have more words). You can cite every damned amendment to the constitution and still men who profess to be holier than though still do not have such rights.

You could have an IQ of 61 and realize an appeal will be fruitless.

"Only in Third World Jackistan said...Murder bond - $10,000 Street preaching bond - $500,000"

If you think this is about 'street preaching', you might oughta sit this one out.

7:39 - Your entire post is emotion-based bullshit. Let's start (and stop) with your comment that no blows were 'taken'. You seem to know a lot of lawyers. Get one of them to share with you the legal definition of assault. You really should stick to reading the Clarion Ledger at Krystal.

Anonymous said...

7:21 Is a Christian that places a higher point system on sins that he/she does not commit.

Good luck with that spreadsheet to justify how less-sinful your sins were at the pearly gates.

Anonymous said...

Praise the lord that God chose to have these criminals locked up. Hopefully they are able to learn something from their sins and feel compelled to beg the forgiveness of everyone they selfishly harassed and assaulted. God is truly great!

@8:04
There are unforgivable sins. The blood of Jesus doesn’t wash away blasphemy or child molestation or child murders, for example.

Anonymous said...

If you actually read what KF posted, it's clear those 'preachers' are just common thugs and it's just a matter of time before they follow through on their threats.

The abortion issue is once again being taken up in the courts of law-where the issue should be resolved. It's not resolved by threats and physical violence against those outside of the womb. Remember the Birmingham clinic bombing in 1994??

5:56, I suggest you start reading the opinion.

The attorney claiming to have practically shrieked in fright and trembled in fear is engaged in identical conduct as the defendants- urging a fight, in only a generic sense, although he did not initiate the contact.

These boneheads on both sides go to Martial Arts training at the same place. They probably spar with each other, and pay for the pleasure.

You might recall that even "simple" assault requires "putting another person in REASONABLE apprehension of an imminent harmful or offensive contact."

When a nutty protestor urges you to "REPENT" or has a sign "The End is Near!!!, that's NOT assault, Hoss. It's 1st Am protected speech.

It's the "reasonable" factor completely lacking in charging, much less prosecuting.

The opinion is biased and written like a 12 year old school girl was bullied by a 300 pound 40 year old male, not a male attorney, who spars at their fight club, yelling back, "What are you gonna do about it?" Pathetic.

9:16. the only 'unforgiveable' sin in the Christian Scriptures is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

I say that to make this point: do people just having coffee at the Bean have the right to do so without being called a 'sinner' and 'fornicator' over a loudspeaker?

Anonymous said...

Having more info on these two people.......I recant my comments yesterday and will say that these two deserve what has come to them. That said, I am fully pro life .

Anonymous said...

@10:07 Did you read the opinion? I'd suggest you give it another once-over because your facts are quite distorted, as is your legal analysis.

"Simple assault" (not "simple" assault) for these purposes does not require victim to 'shriek in fright and tremble in fear'. These are, in fact, not legal terms.

Mississippi's cited statute requires 'attempts by physical menace to put another in fear of imminent serious bodily harm'. Siders admitted that he was trying to incite fear, calling it 'the fear of God'. He targeted the guy, both in words and in action. I don't know how someone can read the facts, agreed upon by both sides, and not conclude that the guy and his girlfriend would be afraid to walk around their own neighborhood.

If these folks will act like this in public, traumatizing children and hurling insults at JPD, who knows what they're capable of? It is perfectly reasonable to think that anyone this group sets its wrath on would be afraid.

Anonymous said...

10:07 - You Do NOT get to decide for someone else what, to him, puts him under imminent threat of personal harm. Did you really think you have that level of authority? That sort of thing is 'hashed out' in a courtroom based on testimonial evidence for the consideration of a judge or jury.

Yep...Yet another one who got a law degree while eating grape jelly at Krystal.

Anonymous said...

“States must prove more than the mere utterance of threatening words – some level of intent is required.” And this will never pass as a true threat under even existing rulings. What a joke our Miss. bar has become.

Anonymous said...

8:10: I don't know what world you live in, but I can assure you the actions of the defendants and the court were no joke. Here are a couple of more crimes those guys could have been charged with, both of which are punishable by fines and six months in jail:

"A person who wilfully disturbs the peace of any family or person by . . . by loud or unusual noise, or by any tumultuous or offensive conduct, shall be punished by fine or imprisonment, or both; the fine not to exceed one hundred dollars, and the imprisonment not to exceed six months in the county jail."

Miss. Code Ann. § 97-35-9

"Any person who shall enter . . . any other public place whatsoever, in the State of Mississippi, and while therein or thereon shall create a disturbance, or a breach of the peace, in any way whatsoever, including, but not restricted to, loud and offensive talk, the making of threats or attempting to intimidate, or any other conduct which causes a disturbance or breach of the peace or threatened breach of the peace, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor . . . "

Miss. Code Ann. § 97-35-13

Liberties like free speech and jury trials were nonexistent in colonial America because the merchant and political class preferred muted and conforming citizens or slaves, rather than free men. The municipal judge gave a node to that same class by jailing Bryan and Allan.

I do hope the 'Krystal Lawyer' wasn't wearing a white shirt (unbuttoned down to the fourth button) since there's grape jelly all over it. Burgundy would hide it.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
