Jackson Won't Release EPA Emails

Collection of all posts on EPA Emergency Order

The Lumumba Administration continues the EPA stonewall.  WLBT reported Friday:

The city of Jackson has denied a request from WLBT for all emails related to an Emergency Administrative Order requiring the city to bring its water treatment system into compliance with federal law.

In March 2020, the Environmental Protection Agency issued an emergency order to the city requiring it to address numerous deficiencies at its water treatment plants.

The report had been kept under wraps for more than a year until exposed recently in local media.

3 On Your Side had requested any and all emails related to the order.

However, in a one-page response, Public Works said that the emails are “protected by attorney-client privilege, the attorney work doctrine or as settlement negotiations in an ongoing enforcement action.”

The response is dated April 13, but was not released until Friday, April 16, days after Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba defended his decision to not make the order public at a Jackson City Council meeting.

“The reason we haven’t sent (it) out is because the draft hasn’t been finalized by any party. When there is a completed document that both the EPA and the city of Jackson agree to, it will be issued,” he said.... Rest of article.

 Is anyone surprised?

Bullshit-

There's a saying that goes like this - Bad news doesn't get any better with age. It's best to get all the bad news out there so the city can move on to fixing the problems at water plants. By stonewalling, the mayor gives the impression that he's sitting on top of a shitload (figuratively speaking) of bad news.

Any decent communications, public relations professional would advise the mayor to put the EPA order as far in the past as possible & to change the narrative to what the city is doing to fix things. Turn a negative into a positive, but he has dug in so deeply that's not possible.

I just got a business idea. I can start offering “urban safaris” in Jackson.
All of the the excitement of a safari abroad, but right right in our own state capital!

Memo to 3:31:

If you are serious, the Cadillac dealer can provide you with a bullet proof Limousine to use for your tours. I could see you doing it, but not without a bulletproof vehicle.

I acknowledge that a mayor has some types of qualified immunity. But the actions of this mayor seem to rise to criminal conduct in failing to disclose the first report that involved the very safety of the citizens and now trying to cover it up. Now I am mad that I just wasted my time in writing this thinking that somebody would actually do something about it. The problem is that 99% of the people who need this message don't read this blog - don't listen to conservative radio stations or watch a conservative show on TV. We are always preaching to the same choir, ourselves

I hear ya, but it probably wouldn't be a success unless you had some relatively modern surplus APC type vehicles.

(APC is a generic term for a wide variety of military armored personnel carriers).

Or, as the first repsonse trimmed it down -- Bullshit.

"attorney work doctrine or as settlement negotiations in an ongoing enforcement action"

Laughing at that one.

Some that actually cast votes within the lil' mayor's constituency are impressed by such meaningless language.

Sad but true.

(Rename a street, give a plaque to someone every month ... and said City Official will remain in office forever).
Stokes mastered that re-election formula decades ago.

BTW, I still can't find a Stokes baseball cap ... like he wears at his Sunday afternoon pressers.

I got some emails I want to release:

".... ongoing enforcement action ...."

Looks like public works and/or the city attorney's office failed to get the gumflapper memo about the seriousness of the EPA's activities. It's just a letter, remember. It's just a simple misunderstanding over process. There is an ongoing low-key, low-level "discussion" between the city and EPA. It's not an "order," you see. It's nothing serious.

So, somebody inside city hall is totally confused here. Either it's a misunderstanding or it's an "ongoing enforcement action" that calls for a circling of the wagons, obfuscate at all costs, damage control scheme orchestrated by a narrow ass piece of shit liar.

There's a new story up on ABC news about the water mess. They( and Lumumba) blame climate change, racism and all the Caucasian folk that used to run Jackson.

There's a new story up on ABC news about the water mess.

ABCNews: Jackson, Mississippi has an ongoing water crisis.

Incredible that the story mentions the EPA but says nothing about the EPA emergency order detailing total administrative incompetence that LUMUMBA kept corruptly hidden for over a year.

Some reporters have told me its really hard for them to understand the order. Completely understandable. I had to get help to understand it at first as it is so technical and I have a science degree.

KF, it might be hard to understand, but one would be hard pressed to find anything about climate change or white racism in the order. Much less caucasian leadership being a cause.

ABC could have figured out the basics if they had wanted to, but no ............that would eliminate the story.

Gotta give props thought to Lumumba's press agent; they've sold a good story to the national groups (hate to call them media, that would be giving them credit for something they don't deserve). He's sucking all the good out of his so-called crisis - but guess he hasn't gotten the word from his new White House buddies - can't use the crisis word anymore.

Kingfish, don't make excuses for other reporters inability to understand an EPA order. they could have done what you did, ask somebody that can understand it and explain it. those other reporters are just lazy.

April 20, 2021 at 8:46 AM; why is it incredible that ABC news would not mention the EPA order and what it says and means? they're a leftist media outlet and what do you expect? quote from the article; "changes in weather patterns" is a cause. let's blame climate change.

another quote; "Jackson has an over 82% Black population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Lumumba said environmental racism, divestment and white flight all play a part in the city's infrastructure crisis." here he is, blaming environmental racism, as if the environment can be racist. and blaming whitey for "divestment and white flight."

and another quote; “I think that you find less willingness from the state to support a city like Jackson, because they don't necessarily feel that the demographics of Jackson, or even the politics of Jackson resemble the majority opinion,” Lumumba said. again, blaming whitey and the republicans.

everyone should read that article. perfect example of skewed, slanted, biased, lazy reporting. no follow up questions, nothing. reporter says to chowkey; tell us about jackson's water problems, and then they write down whatever he says. just a platform to let people shift the blame to others all while ignoring their own contributions to the problem.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
