C19 Update: Governor Tightens Restrictions

Lord Protector Tate Reeves issued the following statement.

Today, Governor Reeves announced additional measures to slow the spread of COVID-19. A new executive order places a 10% capacity requirement on healthcare facilities across the state. If hospitals cannot maintain 10% of their capacity for COVID-19 patients, they must delay elective procedures. This was a vital part of the effort to prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed during the summer wave. Mississippi’s COVID-19 cases have increased over the past few weeks—part of a global and national trend of increasing cases.

The governor also announced additional targeted measures for counties which meet the standards established during the summer wave. In these counties, indoor social gatherings should be limited to groups of 10. Outdoor social gatherings should be limited to groups of 50. Face coverings are required while indoors and interacting with the public without social distancing.

“We’ve seen this before. We know what can happen if we allow this to get out of control, and so we want to be proactive to prevent that from happening,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “None of these elements are silver bullets. None of them will totally eliminate the virus. We have to allow for life to go on in the meantime. As we wait for a vaccine, our mission is the same as it ever was: to prevent our healthcare system from being overwhelmed. That has to be the focus.”

The counties with additional COVID-19 safety measures are Chickasaw, Claiborne, DeSoto, Forrest, Itawamba, Jackson, Lamar, Lee, and Neshoba.

Counties must meet the following criteria for additional measures: more than 500 cases per 100,000 residents over a designated two-week period or more than 200 cases total over the designated two-week period (with more than 200 cases per 100,000 residents).

A copy of the executive order can be found here.

What a toothless dictate. Hospitals have to stop admitting patients if the capacity drops too much, but everyone except those living in 9 counties can keep on like nothing is wrong. Tater has no vision. You don't wait for things to get critical before you start taking action. Then again, he has been nothing but reactionary so far. Pure political theater.

I hope the governor also looks into the COVID-transmission in private schools. JA and Prep again not reporting their numbers. Maybe they are ashamed of them? Wonder how you can be ashamed of something you believe is a hoax? Or maybe they just don’t care. Wait, where do the governor’s kids go to school?

Good thing the virus can’t cross invisible county boundary lines.

My personal anecdote is that 80 people at my employer have tested positive. From ages 20 to 65 and not one single person was admitted to the hospital. They all survived their paid quarantine. Hell, people who only got 3 days off and tested negative were actually pissed they had to come back to work! Rumer has it people are actually chasing the bug for their paid 2 weeks off!

The take-away from the news conference is the governor`s announcement of the 7% fatality rate for those tested positve over 50 years old. It ain't just like the flu.

This is insane. The MS GOP needs to be disbanded if they don't primary his a$$.

@3:29, I assume you are one of the Branch Covidians who scream “a private business can require you to wear a mask?” If so, you should support private schools rights to do as they please.

I've taken this seriously from the start ( going on eight months now).

But this week, there's no rhyme or reason about anything "the gub'ment" says.

Let the damn China virus spread . . . as does the annual flu.
There is something to be said about "Herd Immunity".

It worked in 1918 with the Spanish flu.
And that "virus" didn't really end until 1920 . . . but it worked.

100 years ago, Doctors were very concerned and saying much the same things as many say today.

But it seems many Doc's back then . . . didn't want their image on the front page of 1918 newspapers.

Now it seems many of the Doc's can't wait to be on any "news" camera.

Tate is going back to a piecemeal county by county approach to a virus that doesn't respect county boundaries.

Tate: just reimpose the State Wide mask mandate and keep it on until there is widespread deployment of a vaccine. Don't wait until Biden has step in with a mask mandate two months from now.

My right to freedom from Covid-19 should not be infringed upon by by idiots not wearing masks.

"Herd immunity" only "Worked" in killing folks in 1918.

The equivalent today would be 2,000,000 dead. Or, 5 times World War Two.

Surely you can't be that stupid. Or craven.

If you are, don't cry in 2 weeks when we get a solid Democrat Government and maybe a Democrat liberal Senator.

We have the most cowardly, wimpish folks in the world in Covidiots. What brainless, maskless Sheep.

There are a lot of folks who live in adjoining counties, but work and shop in one of the counties with the face mask mandate? When they go back home to those counties, does the virus stay behind, Professor Tate?

Mississippi will be the last place on earth to get Covid-19 under control which will be years from now.

I'm not too worried about Covid running rampant through JA and Prep.

Once again our favorite liberal city and State Chicago Illinois is seeing a dramatic increase in Covid. The Mayor and governor trying to shut the state diwn again. But the liberal clowns told us they be doing everything right.

Tate has lost the little credibility he had by allowing the state fair to go on and now being extended for a third weekend for purely financial reasons. The mask mandate will not be imposed in Hinds County until after Mistletoe Market Place. More prove that lockdowns and other measures are meaningless. Stop with the daily counts and the daily press conference.

Considering that Mississippi is supposedly helmed by Republicans (who are supposedly for LIMITED government), it is surprising to observe the degree to which Governor Quisling, Doctor Dissembling, and Executive Director Mendacious, all seemingly follow the same Covid-19 playbook followed by Democrats.

They sure do seem to be good "team players", careful to neither say nor do anything which might challenge, undermine, or disrupt the approved Covid-19 narrative, or the desired trajectory of current events. They seem resolute, in allowing neither logic nor statistics to threaten potential profits from tests, tracking, and the much-anticipated vaccines.

Ann Coulter (though it might as well have been Ayn Rand) once observed that America has two political parties. There is the Stupid Party, and there is the Evil Party. Occasionally the Stupid Party and the Evil Party work together, to achieve things which are both stupid AND evil. This is called 'Bipartisanship'.

Should we be comforted, by the current bipartisan efforts to address this "health crisis"? Or should we be AFRAID?

Ann Coulter is hot.

For those demanding the healing balm of mask mandates, I can only assume that your only source of news is cable TV. Positive tests do not equal cases.

@5PM Herd immunity is the the only way we still exist as a species, vaccines weren't invented until almost 1800. There are places that have reached 0 deaths and very few cases. Do you think that's because they secretly developed a vaccine, only gave it to their country, and are still hiding it from the rest of us? Y'all think of yourselves as so worldly and informed but are either completely unaware of anything happening outside of your own state, or refuse to look at any data that doesn't conform to your fear.

@10:24 Thanks for sharing, hadn't seen that.

My concern is that many are being admitted solely to make money for the institute admitting them. Yes there are medical professionals that will do this. Most I know, including myself, with Covid were treated at home and did well without all of the feared and claimed Sequela that's been touted about. I am of the belief that this is truly a bad cold and not the proclaimed end of mankind as many are crying from the rafters. We have many other disease processes out there.

@Jacksun. So you’re good with the vaccine and the GAVI/MasterCard chip that will be required afterward right? (You didn’t research it like I asked you to, did you?) You aren’t just ignorant of what’s happening, you are now complicit and that makes you an enemy of not just the American people, but of humanity as well.

Pappy Odaniel said...

Well, Pappy is late for the game here, but I will take a garbage time TD. So, the state government is tying public health measures to hospital capacity. Is this not the same state government that restricts capacity by Certificates of Need? So they created the problem and now we are being punished for it.

Calm Down said...

The survival rate of 98-99% only includes those who actually got tested. One would have to assume that some people got it but weren't all that sick, and so never got a test. Those people are not included. Wonder what the survival rate would be if we include those?

11:37am: I wasn’t aware, no, that the Gates Foundation and MasterCard are working together to fund an out reach to immunize the 20% of children who still are unimmunized against Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) ang get them digital vaccination certificates to keep up with the progress. Truly the Gates Foundation are the hands and feet of Christ reaching out to protect vulnerable children. And here is one for you: Did you know the Rubella portion of the MMR vaccine has a 19% similarity in protein structure to the Covid 19 virus? That gives the MMR vaccine a high cross reactivity to Covid, diminishing its worst effects against prolonged illness or death. That is an important reason why recently vaccinated children do better than older Americans against Covid who never had the MMR not developed as 2 courses until 1979. So stretch out your arm, get the MMR vaccine, and get at least an important protection against the worst effects of Covid with the valuable, off the shelf MMR vaccine from any clinic today.

So tired of hearing Covid this and Covid that. Hearing it is the end of mankind and been wishing for an Asteroid strike taking us all out. So now I hear one may, May I say, hit on 3 November. But once again, hopes shattered.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
