Rez Bill Recap

I appreciate the opportunity to discuss the reservoir legislation with all of you. I know that there is some controversy with the legislation and also some misinformation. What I am trying to achieve through all of this is higher property values and better quality of life for reservoir homeowners. There is no question that the PRV does a lot of things well. I have never questioned their ability to run the dam, provide water to Jackson, or the performance of the Reservoir Patrol. What I am concerned with are zoning decisions and responsiveness to the concerns of reservoir homeowners. I would like to respond to the comments from your earlier post.

1. Currently, the Board of Supervisors in Rankin County are making a concerted effort to crack down on nuisance properties and a moratorium on residential rental properties particularly in District Two. Because they are elected by the people, they are answerable to the people every four years. Each county board of supervisors that surrounds the reservoir does have one appointment to the PRV but more than half of the board is appointed by state agencies (Wildlife, DEQ etc.) and other officials.

2. This bill has absolutely nothing to do with the Two Lakes Project or anything south of the dam no matter what the Jackson Free Press says. :)

3. The Pearl River Industrial Commission is a different animal than the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District. My bill does not apply to the Industrial Commission.

4. I do not own a boat.

5. Rankin County has grown tremendously in the last 50 years and the new supervisors will be focused on zoning like never before. I will tell you that zoning is a priority of mine and I will continue to file bills that will be vehicles to enhance property values and improve quality of life. I have just added an amendment to a bill that will allow for the 5-laning of Old Fannin Road from Laurelwood to to Spillway Road. The bill allows the PRV to donate the easement and right-of-way property to the city and county and all parties are in favor of it.

As always, I welcome your input. I am not perfect but I mean well.

Great job explaining Lee! You need not explain item 2 above. Those moonbats are in a different time warp than the rest of the city.

I want to thank Senator Yancey for coming on here and giving us a recap. The esteemed Senator from Brandon will pop up here on Fridays to give us a little blurb or two from the legislature. He is doing us a favor by keeping us and the loop so please show your appreciation.

Thanks Lee. Thank you for being succinct as well, the issues are clearer and as a Reservoir resident, I am please to see you actively involved in your community.

Much appreciated.

KF,

why aren't you doing an article on the St. Dominics push to put a hospital in Madison. It seems like St. Dom's trying a little too hard to make us all think they need to be there.

Just curious as to your analysis.

!! Great post Senator and many thanks. !!

But, come on, admit it. You are a secret agent secretly in the employ of John McGowan and his evil Working Partners. We all know that item #2 above is only offered to throw us off of your scent. You'll feel much better if you just man up and tell us where you're hiding the boat. ;-)

Thanks for clarifying, Senator Yancey. Good job.

Your statement in point one is quite a bit different from your previous statements that the PRV Board is unanswerable to the voters, isn't it? Perhaps a bit of research before spreading misinformation in the press is in order.

In fact, even some minimal research before sponsoring ANY bill would go a long way toward restoring the distrust that many of us have developed for our elected representatives in the legislature.

Senator Yancey, Thank you for your post clarifying the PRV related bill. Two questions: 1) How much money does the PRVWSD currently have for capital improvements? 2) Where will the funds come from to 5-lane Old Fannin Road as referenced in your post? Thanks again.

What is behind that foreclosure bill?

The notion that the Rankin Co. board of supervisors is "making a concerted effort to crack down on nuisance properties and a moratorium on residential rental properties" made me spew Coke through my nose. Surely you jest! Lived around here long?

Thanks, though. Been a long week and I needed that chuckle.

No one likes an unkept piece of property, but owners have rights to and many of us are sick and tired of the government telling us what to do and micro-managing our real estate.

If government is so smart, why are they all broke?

The widening of Old Fannin was supposed to begin in Spring of 2009! What happened to that date?

Can all of the new anonymous named characters, please come up with something original. I mean Pharmacy Jim is a good one. I get it. Kapt Kangaroo, I play solitaire with a deck of 51. I get it. Michael, Jimmy. Nothing. No context. Pwease?

And for the Senator's listening pleasure....please forgive the language...it is the language you will hear if you ever make it up to Flag Island...

I trust the Rankin board not nearly as far as i could throw them, which isn't far to begin with..

the VAST majority of Reservoir residents are fine with the way things are, and the ones that want change dayum sure don't want Rankin Co. in charge of zoning.

So please, go do something productive with your time in the government and quit trying to fix things that aren't broken. There are PLENTY of broken things that need fixing, unfortunately you fatcats in the capitol get your blinders on and would rather get reelected than do something worthwile.

For examples of Rankin zoning take a drive down Old Fannin Road (the one that is about to to be 5 lanes) and you can see what we might enjoy in the future. Strip malls, 3 on the intersection of Spillway and Old Fannin, a used car lot, a trailer park, a pottery and other assorted junk dealer, and even more for your viewing pleasure. The 5 lanes to the reservoir should be a bit classier, in my opinion. All that and more is present because of past and current Rankin County zoning.
Rankin County zoning? No thanks.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
