Irby update: The Rehab Tour

Well, well, well, it looks like since Stuart Irby doesn't have to worry about testifying in court, he has been a busy little bee. These pictures were taken November 21 at the airport as he flew out of Jackson to Dallas for the weekend. He arrived with his pilot, got his own luggage, took a stroll, then got on the plane and departed. Mr. Irby's rehab tour has taken place at several other sites in Jackson: The shindig at Hal and Mal's on Thanksgiving night where he was seen by more than a few people; the Friday night performance of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at New Stage Theater where his buddy Mac performed; the book signing for Quinten Whitwell's If By Whiskey held at Lee Paris' home. Numerous sources who attended the signing reported to JJ Mr. Irby was among those in attendance at the literary event where the beautiful people of Jackson showed up to tell each other how wonderful they are.

Hmmm....Mr. Irby can't testify in his case, yet he can fly to Dallas to have some fun, go to bars, plays, and book signings yet according to his doctor and Judge Green:
"Stuart Irby's physicians are of the opinion that he lacks the ability to participate or even comprehend and provide reliable and valid answers to questions from the State and Defendant regarding the incident at issue in this case. Moreover these treating physicians advise the Court Mr. Irby's involuntary participation in even a simple interview at this time would likely "worsen" his condition, would setback his brain injury recovery, and "cause harm" to their patient."..."

Obviously these excursions are part of Mr. Irby's rehab and we all hope he is making a speedy recovery from the injuries he suffered in that horrible wreck nearly a year ago. If, however, he is merely avoiding testifying in his wife's case, I will offer some advice: Spend some money and lease a condo in New Orleans for six months. You want to have some fun and not worry about everyone in town seeing it, just hit the road on I-55 South for two and a half hours and get lost in the Crescent City. No one will know who you are down there. However, I think we can all assume these little excursions are approved by his doctors and lawyers as part of his convalescence and that it is obviously working for him.

rapid movement and high altitude actually promote brain repair and recovery. sedentary actions such as testifying have been shown to cause rapid decay of memory cells. i.e. bill clinton.

That depends on what your definition of "is" is.

That is true and thank you for the medical clarification.

Yeah, that gratuitous narcissism sure seems to work for some. For a while.

Just don't have Stu spend the night at your house. Call him a cab.

It is good see the system working so smoothly. What a refreshing change.

So, as Denninger ask the other day (in another context), "What is the breaking point" for people regarding justice?

Anonymous said...

Ah, let me think, breaking point...contribute enough money to buy justice? I'm not talking about the Sheriff.

This is outrageous. Does Judge Green receive reports like this one? If someone fed it to her, could she reverse her earlier order and force Irby to testify?

So this looks pretty ethical. I am sure the Bar and the Judicial Review Board is aware of this investigation you have done. Perhaps the great state of MS should take a lesson from the recent FL Supreme Court order.

I'm thinking about creating a tour T-shirt, you know, like the ones the rock bands used to have on concert tours with the tour dates on the back. Call it the Rehab Tour or the Can't Remember Tour with a list of dates and sites on the back of the t shirt. T shirt would be black of course.

Then we can all wear them to the courtroom...

I understand that one of the songs on Stu's playlist is 'We Can't Drive 40'.

I think its pretty lowlife to suggest that just because Stuart Irby was seen somewhere that he should therefore give testimony. In any event, your commentaries reflect your opinion of the judge. Why not leave the man some air?

Kingfish said...

What exactly is my opinion of the judge?

Anonymous said...

Kingfish, have you actually spoken to Irby? Have you heard him carry on a conversation with anyone?

The man is mentally wrecked.

I don't even know the man personally, but had to discuss some matters of business with two weeks ago. It was our first meeting and itt was sad. Plain sad.

I had heard him speak publicly about 3 months before the wreck. Now to hear him speak and carry on a conversation, it's like you are speaking to a mentally-ill patient who forgot to take his medicine, and I'm not saying that to be humorous. There is no way that guy should be able to testify.

Somebody that screwed up shouldn't be walking around freely and unattended at the airport. Don't you think?

Anonymous said...

Just because someone has had a brain injury and doesn't seem like the same person does not disqualify him from being questioned about his memory of events.

Anonymous said...

4:14 you are assuming that Stuart was always rational before the accident and that you couldn't have had a similar encounter pre-accident.

Anonymous said...

This is my point. all these questions and second guessing whether Stuart should have to testify are really second guessing and questioning the judge , who made the determination that he shouldnt be required to testify.

You( some psoters) are saying that the judge got it wrong.

Anonymous said...

Just ask Bobby Burt Delaughter about New Orleans. One can live the high life down there on someone else' dime, all the while making plans for the future.

8:33 Yeah, I think the judge got it wrong. I think the doctors got it wrong by attributing pre-existing conditions and behaviors to the accident. Though I do think the physician's language alluded to knowledge of a pre-existing condition.
If you didn't know Stuart well before the accident, you can't tell how or if the accident affected him even if you know about the pre-existing condition. You don't know how that condition manifested. You can't even know if the last medical assessment available was still good and no new symptoms had shown up. It's that simple. ALL they may have had were any treatment medications.
The judge and doctors didn't know him well before and weren't likely to have been given a recent, accurate, detailed pre-accident assessment. It would not have served Stuart's legal interests to provide such information if it existed or be critical to his medical care as the treatment would be the same. And, I think all those looking after Stuart's interest were smart enough to figure that out.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
