Coming Soon

It appears someone is finally going to move into the old Backyard Burger building on Old Canton Road.

If this is owned by the same bunch that owns Ichiban's in Rankin County, this is a good thing.   Getting tired of driving to Nagoya in Madison for good hibachi to geaux.

Don't hold your breath on this place...

I'm looking forward to this!

Major win for Northeast JXN.

Old canton road construction is what killed BYB. The people that had that store ended up leaving the restaurant business because of Jackson city construction

Glad to have a new business to generate taxes for Jxn, but I loved Backyard burgers and their chili a whole lot more than bird nest soup.

Coming soon and going gone soon after.

If they would repave Old Canton, this area could be revitalized. Right now the road is awful and the little houses are too close to the road for anyone with sense to live in them. The whole area needs to be redeveloped. Money to be had!

It was a damn good burger joint back in the late 80's.

Maybe Chick-Fil-A wiii take over the abandoned Trustmark branch and a Gym chain will invade the closed Baptist health building.

I was just thinking today how I wished BYB was still around.

@8:32
BYB continued to remain in the city of Jackson for years after this location closed. The location across from umc was open until they shit them down locally. Flowood Madison etc all closed for good on that same day

First BYB I had was from there when I moved into Northtown Apartments just out of school in the early 90s. It was a great place to live…then.

@9:07 PM, Democrats can’t control cities like Jackson forever without the “high crime” that keeps “voters that don’t vote Democrat” OUT of cities like Jackson. However, Lumumba was too stupid to understand Democrats must not let the crime get so high that it completely destroys the city (like becoming the “radical” murder capital).

RE: your comments “If they would repave Old Canton, this area could be revitalized.” “Money to be had!”, some of us were naïve enough to believe this about downtown Jackson 3+ decades ago, but learned the hard way that the money was “to be had” alright. And we’ve been hearing this NE Jackson revitalize story from the younger generation for about 15 years now, and it’s only gotten worse, and at least one I know has lost his ___ .

So, unless the Democrat Party abandon’s it “Party of Crime’ platform, the “money to be had” safe bet is in the burbs, not Party of Crime Democrat controlled Jackson.

There's a sucker born every minute. Right?

The BYB restaurant in Byram closed years ago. Not everyone likes charred, black, crunchy shit on their burgers.

I hated seeing BYB go. It was easily the best "quick service" burger joint around. As far as Ichiban goes, the buffet at the Madison location has seriously dwindled in quality, content, and even taste since they put in the hibachi tables.

Jackson is SAVED!

Mr. Kingfish - would you be able to dig into when/if Old Canton Road will be repaved? I believe a preferred engineer was paid $1.5 M to develop plans a few years ago "in the previous administration". However, I noticed the 1/27/26 Council Minutes from COJ didn't mention this as a project that was being sent to the MPO for possible MDOT/LPA funding, though it would seem to be a reasonable ask, but not guaranteed.

Sir, this is a Wendy’s

BYB was my go to when I wanted fast food. Closest fast food burger to a real burger. The grilled chicken sammiches - blackened or Hawaiian were pretty good too. As for Ichiban, sorry to hear that about Madison. I've always had good meals at the Rankin locations, hibachi or boo-fet.

bruh that backyard burger was so damn good - anybody miss xan's ?

bring back Danver's

I always liked the BYB cheeseburger. Wish it was still around. Has anything happened to the building they had in Flowood?

Anonymous said...

If I recall, the old BYB building in Madison is now Whataburger. Not sure that's a good trade-off but I do enjoy a Whataburger now and then. Still a far cry from the bacon cheeseburger or Hawaiian chicken from BYB. And those seasoned fries? Addicting.

Wow! Someone else remembers Danver's I see. @9:34AM

Anonymous said...

@6:53am I bet you are fun at parties.

Anonymous said...

Danver's was the bomb, great hamburger and salad bar.

Anonymous said...

What!!?? Nagoya!! That is great news

Franchise owner of ocr location left the business.

that area of jackson is quickly turning dangerous

I wish we had a Japanese restaurant that served more than just Americanized Tappanyaki and Americanized sushi. Every Hibatchi restaurant is basically a clone of the pooular Benihana restaurants from the 70s that really never really came to “flyover” America. And I am talking about stuff Americans would like like Katsu Curry and Japanese diner or “truck stop” food.

That happened to YOU, too? That happened to us, in Madison. At the drive-thru, my daughter and I were informed that we needed to come inside, to wait (the reason was garbled because the speaker wasn't working very well). So, in we went, to wait... and wait.

Well... the sound system wasn't working, either. So, they'd just turned it up to life-threatening volume, even though the tape or whatever was slipping so badly, it was not recognizable as music. It sounded like the building was being devoured by The Blob.

Eventually, we were brought our Veggie Burgers (this was during our highly-regrettable Vegan period). When we got home, we discovered the "black, crunchy shit" you describe so well. It looked like grilled black plastic. We intended to take it to the Health Department or something - but had other fires to put out, and so that didn't happen (nor did we ever return to Backyard Burger).

What WAS that stuff? Does anybody know?

Maybe I'm getting old but does anyone remember the old Picadilly made from scratch recipes when it was sort of "nice" and everyone was dressed in Sunday outfits?

Anonymous said...

Crime will take it down.

Anonymous said...

Why all of the negative comments? The business owners at least have guts to open a new business and, remember, this is their livelihood and they are working, unlike a vast majority of the population!

If the BYB in Madison, The City Not For Sale, has become a WhattaBurger, you can bet your Converse High-tops they ain't got them big orange signs.

Don't let this out, but, Gerald Steen is about to put a convenience store and Dollar Gentral on what used to be the football field in Madison, The City Not For Sale.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
