Bill Crawford: For Constitution's Sake, Congress Must Authorize Iran War

We celebrate the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence this year. In two years, we will celebrate the anniversary of the sacred document that sustains that independence – the United States Constitution. Hopefully, it will still remain the law of the land.

President Donald Trump pays little attention to it. Congress fails to uphold it. Only the U.S. Supreme Court has held it sacrosanct; but the court’s record on that has become spotty as it dallies and allows both executive and legislative branch exceptions.

The latest incident is the Iran war. The constitution is clear. Congress has the sole power “To declare War.”

Last week, Sen. Roger Wicker published a powerful opinion piece justifying the president’s decision to attack Iran. “I believe the decision was profound, deliberate, and correct,” he said

There was just one problem. It has nothing to do with whether you support the president’s actions or not. The senator’s argument should have been made to congress in support of a war powers resolution. Without an authorizing resolution, the president’s action amounts to a breach of Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11.

The commander-in-chief may take initial military action without congressional authorization when the U.S. is under attack or imminent threat or is part of an authorized U.N. or NATO action. When the scope escalates, congressional authorization becomes required.

This war began Feb. 28. Joint strikes with Israel killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and three top military leaders. In five days, the U.S. hit nearly 2,000 targets, began dismantling Iran’s missile industrial base and naval assets, and killed more key leaders and nuclear scientists. Iran attacks closed the Strait of Hormuz and spread to multiple countries in the region. Civilian deaths in Iran began to mount, six American soldiers lost their lives, and 140 were injured. The president is considering sending in U.S. troops to secure Iran’s enriched uranium. Bombardments and missile/drone interceptor fire continue daily. Pentagon officials have warned of “scary high” shortages of precision-strike Tomahawk missiles and Patriot PAC-3s interceptors. Over 2,400 ballistic missiles and 3,500 drones were used during the first two days of attacks.

Senior Republicans told Politico they expect the president to request an emergency appropriation of up to $50 billion to replenish supplies and pay for extended support of American armadas, aircraft, and deployed forces.

This is war, not an excursion.
“The war is going great,” Trump declaimed last week.
Sen. Wicker along with Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith and Representatives Trent Kelly, Michael Guest, Bennie Thompson, and Mike Ezell swore oaths to uphold the constitution. They need to live up to their oaths for our constitution to remain relevant.

“Once you make the vow, you must be careful to do as you have said” – Deuteronomy 23:21.

Was it constitutionally correct for the President to authorize an attack on the Iranian leadership & then ask congress for approval under the War Powers act to expand military action to destroy Iranian military.

"According to the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) in the Department of Justice, Article II affords the President
constitutional power to 'deploy the military to protect American persons and interests without seeking prior authorization from Congress.' This interpretation gives the President 'a great deal of discretion' to decide what events warrant U.S. military intervention."

Let's ask Barry O for his opinion.

Sen Wicker to uphold constitution? Ha! Backstabber can't even sign on for a talking filibuster to pass the SAVE America Act. F' all of 'em!

sorry friend but he didnt do diddly squat for American interests. This was 100% for Zionist interests and Zionists arent American patriots AT ALL because their allegiance is either to a foreign land or they are being blackmailed by the foreign land.

Curiously, neither dissent nor so much as comment is brooked on the “Live from Iran” post just previous.

Some time a president has to do something and he cannot wait for years for politicians to argue about it. Especially with this president. Many people are willing to allow damage to be done just because they want to damage the president and will allow things to harm their own country. When people think doing damage to a person is more important that helping their own country it is time to bypass them.

What would be the point in authorizing a war after the fact? That would make what Trump did “constutional” when in fact Trump was required to seek authorization before beginning the war? Does anyone see that if an after the fact authorization is constitutional then presidents can begin wars when they want, daring congress to embarrass the country or worse by denying authorization? As to Roger Wicker, that man may be useful to the State by bringing home federal bacon, but he ain’t no genius and he really isn’t more than a cheerleader for Trump. I don’t think Wicker gets what is really at issue here, which is the necessity of congress defending its role in the federal government. However, he is hardly the only one there who puts the interests of party or president above constitutional government or even the good of the country.

For clarification, we haven’t declared war since WW2. Truman/Eisnehower didn’t in Korea, JFK/LBJ/Nixon didn’t in Vietnam’s, Clinton in Bosnia/Yugo, Bush didn’t, Obama didn’t, Biden was asleep in his recliner, etc. I don’t recall ol Bill being this upset with Obama

STFU, Bill, you ignorant cuck. Where were you asking about this when Barry O was drone-killing US citizens?

Kingfish said...

Nope. There was another Iran-related post below it so you had plenty of opportunity to comment. Don't really care as some of you are so predictable I can write your comments ahead of time.

I voted for Trump twice....and couldn't be more disappointed. Aside from stopping the invasion at the border, he's sold his soul - and ours - to the Zionists who are his administration's puppet masters.

Anonymous said...

... and he really isn’t more than a cheerleader for Trump.

Hardly.

@12:30 - you and your ilk should all be thankful the Israelis are on our side. Without them, the Iranians would have, by now, the bomb, and after dismantling Israel, would be nuking us. Your history classes must not have taught you about Neville Chamberlain.

Anonymous said...

You voted for Trump twice and now you’re “disappointed” because you think he sold his soul and ours to the Zionists? That’s not disappointment. That’s a pathetic half-step toward admitting you helped unleash a monster while still trying to save face.
You pat yourself on the back for “stopping the invasion at the border.” What a sick joke. What he actually did was turn the border into a militarized killing field where American citizens get shot by trigger-happy enforcers, families are ripped apart in front of cameras, and the whole thing is dressed up as patriotism. He shifted real FBI resources away from actual threats so he could chase his deportation fantasy, raid foreign countries, threaten neighbors, and treat human beings like garbage for his rallies. If that’s your big win, congratulations—you cheered for cruelty and called it security.
And the Zionist puppet-master whining? Spare me. Trump isn’t some helpless marionette. He’s the eager salesman who handed Israel a blank check, trashed any hope of a two-state future, cheered on settlement expansion, and dragged America toward more endless war in the Middle East. He didn’t sell his soul; he auctioned off American blood, treasure, and credibility for applause from one side while pretending it’s “America First.” That’s not being controlled. That’s being complicit.
You had two full chances to see the grift. Two full terms of watching him turn the country into his personal revenge playground, torch alliances, cozy up to dictators, lie nonstop, and leave the world more dangerous. And only now, years later, do you muster this weak little “I’m disappointed” because the flavor of the poison doesn’t match your preferred conspiracy?
Wake up or shut up. The rest of us have been living in the wreckage you helped create. Your regret is too little, too late, and way too self-serving. You don’t get to play the victim after casting the votes that lit the match.

You got to think about the bigger picture. Democrats lost a lot of their back room funding. Trump cut off a lot of NGO’s that back filled Democrat coffers. What are Democrats actually running on? Voter ID? Making things better for Americans? Nope, they run on Trump is tuning their grift. I hate to break it to the anti-Israel crowd on here but America will always support Israel. That didn’t change when Democrats were in office and it definitely won’t change while Republicans are running the show.

9:57, thanks for that bit of information about Wicker's stand on the Talking Filibuster! Every time I've seen him on TV, I've thought he was a Democrat, until, I'd see the 'R' beside his name. Everything about him screams "Democrat!" I suppose that makes him a textbook RINO.

Poor Trump Derangement Syndrome Bill Crawford must not have watched Bill Maher recently trap fellow TDS’er Adam Schiff when he said:

“this statement from the administration: The President had the constitutional authority to direct the use of military force because he could reasonably determine that the use of force was in the national interest.” Maher then asked Schiff “is that too vague for you?” TDS’er Schiff responded “totally vague,” to which Maher countered “that’s from Obama.”

And therein lies the extreme risk we are facing in our country today. If Obama or Biden or the Word Salad Queen were president today doing the exact same thing, RINO Bill Crawford would find something else to stir up ____ about; like another state flag non-issue.

If Trump found a cure for cancer RINO’s like Bill Crawford and leftist Democrats would be giving us reasons to be against the cancer cure. They are literally deranged. But at least we get the pleasure of watching Trump drive them completely insane.

I believe you may not be a democrat, but I do believe you're an antisemite. The definition of an antisemite is down below, and you definitely have some of that going on.

An antisemite is a person who harbors prejudice, hostility, or hatred towards Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group
. Antisemitism includes attitudes, behaviors, and discrimination that threaten the security or rights of Jews, often driven by conspiracy theories, stereotypes, or deep-seated prejudice.

The Antisemites herein posting Zionist this and Zionism that, especially the one stating he/she voted for Trump…..are a reeeaaal trip. They’re probably too young to have been around in the late 70’s when peanut man Democrat Jimmy Carter allowed the beginning of what Iran has become today, instead of nipping that Twelver Shia cult s__t in the bud when they punked us around for 444 days.

Do these Antisemites have “Jewish Derangement Syndrome” so much so, that, like Bill Crawford with Trump Derangement Syndrome, they would rather the world be faced with a nuclear holocaust than be on the same side of Jewish people?

If so, you really can’t make this level of stupidity up.

Here are the facts. I am not cheering.

Iran has proven and confirmed that they alone control passage through the Straight of Hormuz.

The United States has proven that they can’t protect our Middle East allies.

IRGC leadership are walking the streets of Tehran and there are no protests or resistance.

We have no accurate or verifiable assessments of the erosion of their capabilities.

The IRGC has continued to successfully surgically strike regional targets such as the US Military, Tel Aviv Israel, and even ME headquarters of Citigroup in UAE.

At what point do we start winning?

BTW one interesting fact is that Iran has not targeted the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center (formerly the Negev Nuclear Research Center) at Dimona.

I say interesting because it proves a type of dignified restraint among the IRGC that most of you claim they do not possess.

The only way to get rid of the regime is going to be boots on the ground unfortunately. They waited too long to kill the Ayatollah (sp?) to expect an uprising. That needed to be done before the estimated 30-40k people who were rioting were murdered in late January. I am afraid that those remaining are too afraid to have an uprising now unless we figure out a way to get weapons to them. Also I don't expect the Kurds to make significant progress, Iran is a large country and they aren't a big enough force. Until we get boots on the ground, the regime and its proxies will continue to launch drones, set mines, and harass surrounding countries. I would hope if we did get boots on the ground and started taking out their ground troops, the people would then begin to rise up since they would see actual support and have hope. The sad side of this is that it will cost American lives to accomplish the goal of freeing Iran and not having to worry about this regime any longer.

Anonymous said...

Thanks, 10:04, but here are some facts you left out.

1) Iran’s navy is at the bottom of the sea
2) Iran has no air defenses left, we have complete air supremacy
3) Virtually all of Iran’s military assets have been destroyed
4) The vast majority of Iran’s leadership is dead

Iran does have a few stray missile launchers left to attack shipping in the Strait, and they’ve also placed mines there, but give us a little time and that won’t be a problem. Please don’t let your hatred of Jews and America cloud your judgement. Alex Jones is not where you should be getting your news.

they aren't protesting for two reason: 1. We told them to stay off the streets. 2. The regime murdered 36,000 or more last month in 2 days. They even went into hospitals and shot the wounded. Reading a story in Iran International right now how two nurses refused orders and treated the wounded. For their care, they were arrested and raped while in custody. Make that severely raped.

Having said that, there have been some protests and there is footage of it on Vahid Online (Telegram) and Open Source Intel (Twitter)

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
