There's still some fight left in Leroy Walker and Socrates Garrett. Retro Metro filed a notice of appeal in U.S. District Court on December 19 after it failed to get the Court to enforce its Metrocenter lease against the city of Jackson.
Jackson leased the old McRae's building at the Metrocenter Mall from Retro Metro, LLC for over a decade. Mold, air conditioning, plumbing, and pothole problems bedeviled the employees who worked there in the building. The Jackson City Council voted in May 2023 to move its employees out of the building and terminate the lease. Retro Metro didn't like the Council's decision and sued for breach of lease and racial discrimination in federal court in September 2023.The Court dismissed the breach of lease claims in August as it held the lease was invalid since it was never posted on the minutes.Earlier post on decision and case history.

Socrates had himself a Golden egg-laying goose. But that Golden Goose required some basic maintenance to keep providing golden eggs. Socrates is too stupid to understand that. He is used to getting his golden geese just because Jackson has racist preferences for "minorities" in all contracts. And Socrates is continuing to fight because he is stupid.
@12:32 - can’t imagine it would’ve been profitable if they did all the maintenance that would be required. It’s an huge building with years of neglect. Just getting the hvac properly fixed would’ve eaten through a couple years worth of Jackson’s lease payments. The only way to squeeze the last bit of juice out of that building was to slumlord it.
The Greek philosopher Socrates was known for his moral ethics. That tradition didn't carry over to this grifter.
