A federal grand jury indicted former Capitol Police officer Jeffrey Walker for violating the civil rights of a suspect. The indictment states:
The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate. Walker is no longer employed at Capitol Police.
Walker faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and/or a fine of $250,000. He will be arraigned later this afternoon.
Update: The Mississippi Department of Public Safety issued the following statement.
The individual in question has not been employed by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety since July 2023.
At the time of the alleged incident, Capitol Police officers did not have body or vehicle cameras. However, these have since been implemented, and all officers are now equipped with them. Commissioner Sean Tindell has consistently emphasized the importance of holding officers accountable for their actions and fostering transparency within law enforcement agencies and the public.
The establishment of the MDPS Internal Affairs Division, which reports directly to Commissioner Tindell, was a critical step in enhancing accountability and maintaining the integrity of law enforcement across Mississippi. This division includes dedicated investigators tasked with independently handling complaints of officer misconduct. Anyone wishing to file a complaint can do so at our website (www.dps.ms.gov).
Due to this continuing to be an open investigation, no further comment will be made as we allow this matter to continue out through the court system.

Adrenaline rush. LEOs have to be so careful about that.
Roid rage, LEOs have to be so careful about that.
Apparently "ES" didn't watch Chris Rock's video on how to avoid a police beating.
i didn't think capitol police had been around long enough to have any EX- officers.
well, that didn't take long did it?
And I’m sure E.S. Was charged with felony fleeing and eluding, numerous traffic violations, etc????
What do you expect when they do away with background checks and balances. They hired officers rejected from their own divisions within dps. Sean Tindell authorized that process.
Where's his picture? You enjoy posting all the other law breakers in jacktown. What make this one different.
Looks like dem "jump out boys" are being held accountable.....probably more to come in the near future. Good work. Where is the accountability?
My kinda officer. In the 80s Desoto County they used to sit on the county line below Memphis with night sticks and put it on the bad guys. Ah back in the good ole days when there was hardly any crime.
Wow, this presents quite a conundrum for Lynn Fitch? On the one hand, she is really trying to milk her back the blue position. On the other hand, she loves bandwagons. Will she jump on this one?
Law enforcement officers abusing citizens! Reminds me of Sheriff Bryan Bailey’s Sheriff’s Department Goon Squad. Never forget!
"Walker is no longer employed at Capitol Police."
Which rogue agency employs him now?
Take it up with the feds. They don't release mugshots although sometimes we get lucky with the federal prisoners if housed in the Canton jail.
Steven Frederick, now this guy.....Come on Tindell, great choices for hire when you were told not to hire either one due to prior rejection at a dps division under your control due to failing the hiring process. Cronyism? Oh, how about the one you just hired from Rankin County involved in the goon squad investigation, and one who is under a state auditor probe. How will those work out for ya?
The IA division was created to target people they want gone who are not their friends. Look who the IA division reports to. If you want an example look at all the decisions that were recently reversed and settled at the EAB as a result of targeting. It won't take much work to find what it actually going on within DPS.
I guess I have a little goon squad in me somewhere. I am not in law enforcement, never have been. But, I dont think someone should be allowed to run from the cops, endanger innocent people, endanger the cops, create havoc, and when they finally get caught(usually after wrecking their vehicle), just put up their hands and say you caught me. They deserve to have their a## kicked. Not killed or permanently injured, but a good a$# kicking is due.
Use your name ivanka
so it only took 18 months before feds were able to indict a member of capitol police . thats pretty quick considering capitol police have only been in existence for 20 months.
These rogue cops should have never been hired. Markings were all over the wall.
Law enforcement should pay for their own law suits and not expect the tax payers to pay for it! Why should my hard earn tax dollars pay when law enforcement officers f up? If they were forced to pay for there own law suits most of there f ups would stop.
If law enforcement was had accountable the same as the common person most of this kind of stuff would stop
I got a gun and a badge and that makes me above the law!
Watched a Capitol police cruiser flip his lights on today to get through traffic light and then turn them off….sit in traffic on other side of light….they can’t help but abuse their authority
Sean, create as many excuses and promises as you can to mitigate this. If this guy was rejected like he was with another DPS division you would have never had this happen. Excuses, excuses just like a politician.
7:23 apply to capitol police. I hear they are hiring.
7:23pm-You have a bit o stupid in you also. Law Enforcement Officers permitted to kick a little ass is what lead to The Goon Squad abusing so many people.Had Sheriff Bryan Bailey taken action to protect and serve the citizens of Rankin County, instead of ignoring what he had been made aware of, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department would not have the terrible reputation it has now. I hope he is eventually held accountable for his inaction.
Police have to be careful in Jackson, you can’t abuse criminals there, they love, support, and will take a knee for criminals in Jackson.
7:23 PM, you don’t want to be a low IQ goon. Civil liberties for all of us, including you and yours, are far too important.
If you have a false sense of security with law enforcement, i.e. feel safe with LEO’s in the area you live in, then go somewhere else (try 3rd world NOLA).
If you still don’t get it, go to YouTube and search “congressional hearing ATF Malinowski raid.” Forbes Breaking News has some great clips.
I’m a strong anti-BLM Defund/Abolish the Police and a strong pro LEO’er. But there’s too many dip s__t special forces wanna be’s out there to allow LEO’s to also be the prosecutor, judge and jury.
Just more reasons why those that can are bailing out of “The Capitol City.
8:59. I too have seen this happen quite frequently on Lakeland Drive. They will do this in the am on their way to work and get back into traffic. You will also remember the pushback by the community regarding the FLEX team when all this was going on. There was a town hall meeting at a church where Tindell and Bo Luckey spoke. Look it up on YouTube from WAPT. It got quite heated and interesting things said.
Your refusing to post his picture when you know you have it. Stop backing the blue. They are all trash.
The legal term is "excess force." "Police brutality" is a media invented term, just like "assault rifle" and all of the rest.
The goon squad should’ve been charged with acts of terrorism. Anyone who agrees with those demonic assholes is a person not worth having. @7:23 if you want to contribute to society, go crawl in a hole and don’t come out , it’s the best thing you can do for mankind.
Sorry 3:44, you know he's right.
Nope, don't have it. If you send it, I'll post it.
You will see a big problem is in the hiring process. These officers jump from agency to agency after misconduct and are friends with the right people to protect them. If there are red flags that come up don't hire them just because they are buddies with the guy in charge.
Wait. MDPS only recently opened an internal affairs department? Sheesh.
7:42 am I am very well off and could live anywhere. I moved to Jackson from Madison. I hated the commute for concerts and plays and favorite restaurants and favorite retail stores. I choose to live in Jackson. I love the convenience of being able to run any errand and purchase anything I need in as little as 30 minutes. I like that pharmacies and grocers deliver to me. I like that I can get to a major hospital in an emergency quickly. I like that my church is nearby. I love my neighbors. They are all professionals who are well educated and well mannered. I can tell that improvements are being made downtown. I can see the homes being renovated from State St to County Line Rd. I can see some of the older homes in Jackson are being beautifully restored or repurposed. And, while I'm now included in the Capitol Police area, I found the JPD at precinct 4 to be responsive and professional always. I know with certainty; they have more rigorous training. What I hate is that we seem in Mississippi, to have far too many people who don't mind their own business but seem to think it a sport to tend to the business of others and criticize any decision that isn't their own!
Why doesn't the Mississippi Highway Patrol have body cameras? Their abuse complaints are thru the roof at DPS!
I've never fully understood why shining a light on the things that need to change is a bad thing?
By all means, point out the crime. Call out the inept leaders. Demand that your insanely high tax rate be used for better roads.
But hey, if 8:59 pays those high taxes and thinks the City is great then I am happy for him. We seem to get a very similar worded post boasting about the almost exact same things each year, so he clearly believes it.
Each division had their own IA policies and procedures that reported to the division director. Worked okay I guess when it was only MHP and MBN.
Rukia, thanks for checking in.
it took 2 1/2 years for this indictment to come down. it took the feds a while to break through the total coverup.
Pardon me while I make an observation. You are a textbook example of the mental illness called the Stockholm syndrome. For you to praise the city's administration, and speak lovingly of a nearly third world city, leads an observer to question your intellectual stability. Please, speak to your doctor about these things?
