State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.
Today State Auditor Shad White announced Special Agents from his office have arrested Sharccara McNair for submitting fraudulent certifications to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES). She was issued a demand letter upon her arrest for $31,763.85.
McNair is self-employed and a co-owner of Excellent Tax Pros in Hattiesburg. She allegedly submitted fraudulent certifications to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES) so she could receive unemployment benefits while employed as a tax preparer.
“Thank you to the staff of the Department of Employment Security for alerting us to this scheme and to the investigators and prosecutors holding McNair accountable,” said State Auditor Shad White.
If convicted, McNair faces up to 18 years in prison and $30,000 in fines. All persons arrested by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s office online at any time by clicking the red button at www.osa.ms.gov or calling 1-(800)-321-1275 during normal business hours.

Great job Shad! Now grow a pair and go after the Rankin County syndicate. A trainee investigator could rap up the case involving the former Pearl police chief and Richland mayor in a matter of a few days. MHP fired an officer for conduct unbecoming and the Sheriff hired the officer before the ink was dry on the termination notice. Even after the goon squad mess the Sheriff continues to act with impunity. Until then you will never again have my vote.
She so low-down and dirty she got beef with the hattiesburg patriot.
Always smile in your mugshot. Sure knows. Otherwise you look guilty.
Well, at least she's happy about her fraudulent activity.
Look at that picture. She's so happy and relieved she was finally caught. Her conscience was really bothering her
She seems quite pleased with her situation.
"Low hanging fruit" comments in 3, 2, 1... She must think this is funny.
Shad still hasn’t released a statement on the Itawamba supervisor he busted. How many more are out there he’s protecting? Phil isn’t the only one.
I don't think he has the authority to demand or state that 'the Attorney General will prosecute the case'.
As with every other matter that comes to her attention, she will ignore her prosecutorial duties. Has she prosecuted a case in five years?
12:40 - The Auditor's job is to 'bust em'. A State Auditor doesn't prosecute.
From 7-7-211:
"...
In the event, however, such person or persons or such surety shall refuse, neglect or otherwise fail to pay the amount demanded and the interest due thereon within the allotted thirty (30) days, the State Auditor shall have the authority and it shall be his duty to institute suit, and the Attorney General shall prosecute the same in any court of the state to the end that there shall be recovered the total of such amounts from the person or persons and surety on official bond named therein; and the amounts so recovered shall be paid into the proper treasury of the state, county or other public body through the State Auditor.
..."
Whether or not anyone does what the statute says they SHALL do, or what it says SHALL happen, is another topic, but "shall" does have a legal meaning and it is not "can," "may," or other such optional action.
This is not the first time Sharccara has been arrested. She and her sister were arrested for fraud in early 2023.
