Murder suspect Marcus Johnson was arrested in Louisiana yesterday. JPD issued the following statement Tuesday:
On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, the Jackson Police Department began investigating a Homicide that occurred in the 100 block of Parkway Dr. (Tapestry Apartments). The victim has been identified as Carlos Collins, and his next of kin has been notified. JPD Detectives have issued warrants for the arrest of Marcus Johnson. Marcus Johnson is charged with Murder and Shooting into an occupied dwelling in connection to this case. Marcus Johnson is considered ARMED and DANGEROUS. Marcus Johnson was employed with the Jackson Police Department for eight (8) months in 2013. He was separated from JPD pending disciplinary actions leading up to his immediate termination. He resigned just prior to his termination.
JPD issued an alert for Johnson and a black Honda Accord he was driving. A Warren County deputy saw the vehicle approaching Vicksburg on I-20 and the chase was on as Vicksburg police, MHP, and numerous Louisiana law enforcement officers joined in the pursuit. He was finally apprehended in Richland Parish where he awaits extradition to Mississippi.
To say Johnson was a problem child during his tenure at JPD is an understatement. Law enforcement sources said JPD fired Johnson because he stalked an under-age girl in 2013. He made fake 911 calls at her mother's house during his beat. Johnson would respond to the calls so he could talk to the girl. He repeatedly attempted to talk to her but to no avail. In desperation, he drove by and shot into the house. He later got caught writing phony JPD parking tickets on female student using a stolen JPD ticket book. He would then offer to drop the ticket in exchange for, well, you can figure it out. JPD recovered a JPD badge and radio when he was arrested for impersonating a police officer. WLBT reported in 2014:
On Monday, Jackson police arrested a former co-worker who was allegedly pretending he was still on the force.
Marcus Johnson was a Jackson Police Officer for about a year and a half.
On March 31, a security guard at the Palisades Apartment complex contacted police saying someone there was impersonating an officer. Johnson was charged with:
- 1 count of impersonating an officer
- 1 count of false pretense
- 1 count of grand larceny
Although arrested, Johnson was never indicted.

What a great guy- needs goon squad treatment
He was only on the force for eight months. Like a blind squirrel, even the JPD internal affairs finds a nut once in awhile.
Never paid for his crimes... typical Jackson.
What kind of background checks are done (or not done) by JPD during the hiring process?
