A homicide took place on Jefferson Street near High Street. The Capitol Police is working the case. One individual was shot to death while another shooting victim was taken to the hospital. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
Update: The deceased was a participant in the Fondren shootout several weeks ago.

Hopefully this will wake up the legislators that are opposing the state interventions.
I came across that scene around 4:00 this afternoon. The Capitol Police had a massive response, with nine patrol vehicles on site within minutes.
They were nice enough to not escalate this during the marathon Saturday.
If the expanded district is approved, it will be tied up in the courts for years. When/if it is implemented it may have a significant effect on post-crime issues, but it will have little effect on preventing crime. We are dealing with a decaying moral society, and there is nothing that can be done about that.
Right between our State Capitol and the fairgrounds. This has to be a benchmark for the pending oversight legislation.
Do you job, legislators.

6:21 (2nd) "...We are dealing with a decaying moral society, and there is nothing that can be done about that."
Unfortunately, that is correct.
I thought 'the expansion' had been nixed in the senate. Dilbart will always cave to appease the democrat voters.
That old fart we have as a Lt Governor will gut HB1020 to please the Hinds County democrackheads.
621 - nice statement, but just like the Jackson (black caucus) delegation - you STATE that it will be tied up in courts for years. But, you fail to state a claim on which it could/would be tied up.
Obviously you are either (1) a part of the group that doesn't want to see law and order restored to our Capitol City, or (2) you are a part of the group that will repeat, without any basis, whatever you read on social media or hear on whatever media, a point of view that you wish to be true but have no basis to lay claim to "your truth". If you really believe, and have a reason to believe, what you state her - tell us all, I for one am anxious to hear - why the hell you believe this can,or would, be tied up in courts for years.
There is nothing 'courtable' in this legislation. Yes, there are some that don't like it - how many of us could make that claim over numerous pieces of legislation that has passed through the 2nd floor of our Capitol? But that in and of itself doesn't make it unconstitutional.
So - please, Mr./Mrs Constitutional scholar, tell us all why this piece of legislation, assuming we can get it past our negihbor, LG Delbert Hosemann - why there is a constitutional issue, or for his sake, why the black folk in his chamber might take issue - with the legislation as sent by the House.
I'll wait. But I assume I know - there will be no answer from you, because you have no answer.
Yes, the expansion has been nixed in the Senate. Yes, Dilbert has caved to the Democrats on 1020.
But - that's step two of a legislative process. Step three will be the House nixing what the Senate did.
Step 4, in three weeks, is what is important. If Dilbert, through his minions, gets it nixed again - there is plenty to be said about him. But - if Dilbert caves to the folks that want law and order restored, and that want a reasonable societial government here in the state's Capitol - then we might see the bill go across the street to the Governor and become the new law of the land.
May I ask why the JPD was forced to cease traffic check points last year? As I saw it, it was getting criminals off the streets. Can someone answer as to why they caved?
Has the expansion been nixed in the senate or not?
Democrats in general, and specifically the black's representing Jackson in the legislature, are more opposed to the court and policing systems than they are the expansion.
@7:06... because the citizens of Jacktown don't believe in having driver's license, correct tags and car insurance. So it was deemed racist to have road blocks.
@7:06
It was getting criminals off the street, that’s why the Mayor put a stop to it.
All federal magistrates, district court, and appelate court judges, and US Supreme Court justices are appointed, not elected.
The Marxist socialists opposing this legislation must have missed these facts in their civics classes. All they know are that lies that Rukia, Vladimir Chowke, the SPLC, and the NAACP tell them.
There is no mention on WLBT that this happened in Belhaven (Belhaven Heights). The truth hurts, doesn't it?
Why was a participant in the Fondren shootout not in jail?
"The deceased was a participant in the Fondren shootout several weeks ago."
Well, guess that rules out further participation in shootouts/drive by's on his behalf in the future.
I might be in favor if the area was where the most crime (including murder) occurs but it doesn't.
Go west of Mill St and Bailey, south of hwy 80 and stop at I-55 in the east and County Line in the north.
Even the car shooting used as an example took place at West St. and the driver managed to stay conscious to Capitol St. But, easy to omit inconvenient facts.
If you wonder why "racism" is suspected ,it's in the half truths, lies and lack of cooperation.
Being friendly, kind or generous to those of color who work for you or being a fan of Morgan Freedman doesn't mean you aren't a racist. Nor does your charity work.
Actions, including social behaviors speak louder than words.
Having lived all my life in 4 Southern States, this is the only one where organizational and social interaction and friendship wasn't based so exclusively on race and religion. Instead,it was based on accomplishment, contribution to the community, and basic good manners.
We had this unfashionable notion both party candidates should be smart ,successful in school and their chosen work and have a stable family. We expected them to campaign on ideas with "doable", realistic plans for how those would work.
And, we didn't elect people based on party if the candidate had poor recordof achievement, came from a racist family or community known for racist adherence, or were poorly educated.
We may like to hang out with Bubba sometimes as Bubba could be fun and funny, but we wouldn't hire him! And, we would date " a looker" but not elect one that was brainless or bat poop crazy!
Roadblocks are perfectly legit but the Chief kept announcing a bunch of things they were being used for - most of which are unconstitutional. So it was the Chief’s big, stupid mouth that caused the settlement.
Lil Choke knee capped road blocks. Now try stop-and-frisk based on "traffic violations" like Rankin Co. does successfully.

Also appointed are all the Jackson municipal judges and the special circuit judges that have been appointed for years to help with the Hinds county backlog. No complaints about them.
The ignorant Jacksonians want to elect all judges so as to keep "blessings" alive for their people.
Regarding the current mayor and the cessation of traffic stops, you would be in favor of stopping them too if you and your dad the former mayor are affiliated with a terrorist group.
9:51 Appears you've been unable to find a southern state to call home.
