Large Water Main Breaks on Fortification Street

The city of Jackson issued the following statement.

Some areas of Jackson State University and parts of south and central Jackson are experiencing low water pressure today as work crews continue to make repairs to a 20-inch water line break. The large break on Fortification Street near Maple Street was discovered on Tuesday and repairs have been ongoing throughout the day and night.

Four water tanks have been affected as a result of the continued repairs. The Lynch Street tank has been depleted. Water continues to be restored, but it will take time to reach a sustainable level. This has led to water pressure issues for some water customers, particularly in elevated areas.

The leak is in the City’s distribution system and is not connected to any issues with the O.B. Curtis or J.H. Fewell water plants, which are operating normally.

We expect to have the repairs completed by today and will keep the media advised of any new developments.

20 inch main carries a ton of water.

Get the Corps of Engineers here, ASAP!

Cold weather.

Fortification St is not in South Jackson??

Anonymous said...

Flood waters are to blame, right?

Anonymous said...

Yep, those water main breaks are extremely difficult to discover. This is more evidence that Pres. Joe Xiden needs to send money to Socrates, err, Chowke, ASAP.

Should we hire a consultant first before fixing it?

Anonymous said...

This was caused by a "vast right-wing conspiracy" to make Chowke look bad, right? However, he does that just fine without any assistance from outside his office.

Fortification St runs east and west ans is south of Maple St. Maple St runs east and west and is North of Fortification. So, where is the water line break?

Anonymous said...

get tate to declare another emergecy so this can get fixed please

Breaking: Chowke has announced that the cause of this water main break was caused by the unusually high water flow in the Pearl River.

Maple turns SW right after Lanier High School and intersects Fortification. Then, it becomes Longino.

Maple intersects with Fortification west of Bailey.

9:56, Antar's standard operating procedure is having a "conversion" before hiring the consultant that you mention.

9:18 20 inch main carries a ton of water.

Yeah, roughly a ton of water every 1.2 seconds at max flow.

After seeing the picture on WLBT's story, and finding the same spot on Google Earth street view which is a hair south of Watson St., it looks like the road was caved in and a traffic barrel had been in the sunken part for awhile.

Evidently, the governr firebombed it.

For you Chowke voters - that's the breaks, right? Not to worry, because when he replaces Bennie it will be water under the bridge, right?

A 20" water main carries twice as much water as a 10" water main.

The above post is sarcastic and just forcing the math challenged people to scratch their heads and think.

'Yeah, roughly a ton of water every 1.2 seconds at max flow.'

Liquids are measured in volume, not weight. Least-ways that's what I learned up at Holmes Junior.

Trying not to overreact and be so defensive...it's the definition of whining and is very immature.
No one is saying "vast right wing conspiracy".
What we are saying is that both parties have ignored problems that are "unseen" by voters like deteriorating water mains. Politicians want to be re-elected so they want the money to go to visible things you'd like new fairgrounds or project like highways, or your favorite University.
This was true with Democrats in power and with Republicans in power.
We would point out that some of your expectations of performance are terribly naive and unrealistic to the point of being fantastical.
It doesn't matter if you want to improve your circumstances if you don't have the money or resources to do it.
And, we know poor people are not a large voting block but those who feel threatened by minorities in competing for jobs are. We know poor neighborhoods are the most neglected as the higher sources of property tax revenues need to be kept happy for good reason.
They also know religion is a large group in MS and the center of much social interaction. So politicians cater to those constituents too.
Lately, some Republicans forgot women are a large voting block as well. Women also can still think with the head above their necks when the candidate is a pretty/sexy woman.
And, as always, those of us who are not political groupies or blindly loyal aka " swing voters" are overlooked.
This is why there is not the usual Red Wave at mid-terms, some of you are way too full of yourselves but unaware that slowly, you are losing the women as you've lost the young people ( they left).
The mayor, as mayors go is hardly the worst in Jackson has had. And, only a very few know how truly, personally immoral or corrupt a few of the more "admired" were.
And, please, stop bashing the Capitol City. You say "leave" and even if we wanted to, you keep making that more difficult. Your "bashing" doesn't improve our property values or help businesses or restaurants. Are you truly so dense you don't understand that?
And, STILL you can't "get" that Capitol cities relocating is rare, even of countries and not done here...maybe we have no historic alternates is why even when Jackson burned to the ground, there was no where else to go.

A 20” water main can carry up to 4 times as much as a 10” pipe.

Wait on 11/22/22 Chokwe can run things as he sees fit. There are no discords between the Governor or Mayor. The media has made that abundantly clear right? Not to worry help is on the way as employee from California are arriving Monday to get the COJ going. The State has No Authority in managing the water or trash in Jackson or other cities in MS. The Governor was told his help was not wants it needed right? Now move along Christmas is on the way.

The contract employees from Kalifornia will be paid $40/hour! Maybe if Jackistan offered something similar they could attract full-time certified operators. Of course they would have to pay Chowke a commission, right?

11:16 I think you meant “conversation.” Anyway, you’re close. First, he’s got to lift it up. The conversation phase comes after the lifting up stage.

I’m not sure why 12:26 picked 9:56 to unload on, but whatever. Lumumba deserves every bit of snark and sarcasm aimed his way. And as mayor’s go, he is the worst and it’s not even close. Sure, a couple others royally f***ed the city, but when it comes to ongoing deceit and incompetence, Lumumba’s in a class all his own.

November 11, 2022 at 12:26 PM, I do hope there were no disagreements among your different personalities as you were writing that tome. I say this from your excessive use of “we”. Peace.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
