Thinking of getting the Covid-19 vaccine but worried it will be a big hassle? Cast aside your doubts. The Health Department created a speedy system for administering the vaccine that is quite efficient. To show how easy it is, The Kingfish got the vaccine Friday.
Yours truly arrived at Trustmark Park at 8:15 Friday morning for my scheduled appointment. Soldiers direct you into three lines of cars at Trustmark Park. I had to wait a few minutes while they set everything up for the day. Once they got squared away, the line moved pretty quickly.
The Knucklehead heard the word "shot" and wasn't too sure about all this.
Pass through the first tent. Personnel review forms and ask some questions such as health conditions, allergies, and medications. I wrote down I had an allergy to work but the nurse said such an allergy would not interfere with the vaccine.
Next up: The Shot.
Get the shot, then wait in line for 15 minutes.
The shot was relatively painless since they are using a syringe similar to those used for insulin. The left shoulder got a little sore eight hours later but the soreness was not as bad as a tetanus shot and disappeared Saturday. Once the barricades were opened, the entire process took 20-25 minutes.
UMC sends an email a few hours later that asks you to schedule your second dose appointment. However, Dr. Dobbs said today you will be able to schedule your second shot while getting the first one at the drive-thru sites.
The State Health Officer said today Mississippi has administered over 340,000 doses of vaccine. 270,000 are first doses. Out-of-state residents received 6,700 doses. Dr. Dobbs said ID's will not be checked as the Health Department does not want to create any barriers for people to receive the vaccine.

Well one thing is for DAMN sure... if KINGFISH, of all people, couldn't find something wrong with the process, then the State of Mississippi has PERFECTED the vaccine process!
Mirrors my experience at the Lauderdale County site. Very well organized. Felt like someone had punched me in the shoulder hard the next day. No fever, chills, or fatigue though.
My second one is Thursday in Pearl (closest site that had slots available). Hope the heavy rain holds off.
I got you beat on the smart ass comment to the staff. After I'd gotten my first shot, before being allowed to leave, a guardsman asked how I felt.
"Uncontrollably horny."
The guy said there was nothing wrong with me and let me go home.
Good Job Kingfish! One step closer to Herd Immunity.
Until, the virus mutates into a super killer, super spreader & wipes out 99% of the population. The one percent will start over again on the bones of the old civilization.
Think I'm a little crazy?

We got our first shot in Philadelphia and had basically the same experience. Going back for the second the end of this week.
KF thanks for posting this. I had my first shot 3 weeks ago and getting the second one on Thursday. It did take a little patience and diligence to get the first shot. My wife got her first shot last Thursday. I am very thankful for how easy it went and the Health Department folks were especially nice.I want to salute the Mississippi National Guard ( go Army) for being so organized and they were very polite also. Somewhere in all of this Gov. Reeves and Dr Dobbs also should receive more praise and less criticism . When Louisiana and Tennessee are showing up because their states aren’t as organized then Mississippi is doing something right. And all you conspiracy nuts out there dont get the shot but stay away from my family and friends.
Got my first shot just over two weeks ago. The Guard has it down pretty smooth. Biggest problem was the 2+ hour drive to the location. Both the person giving the injection and the paperwork told me I would be contacted about the second shot. Nothing about scheduling it while there for the first. Paperwork also tells me to schedule the second same location as the first, which is a bummer.
Got mine today in Hattiesburg and the results were the same. Wait in line 10 minutes answer some questions and get the shot. The notification came in the email for the second shot next month. All in all a super easy experience.
I live in Virginia (Mississippian away with the military here). I cannot say enough about how well Mississippi is handling vaccine distribution. You are to blessed to live in a state where they care about getting shots in arms. Here? No mass vaccination sites. No utilization of the National Guard. You have to pre-register and hope they call you. It’s a total failure. Kudos to y’all.
Had my 2nd shot last Thursday. Just be prepared to be fatigued, and maybe some shortness of breath. Keep the Aleve and Tylenol handy. The symptoms
show the shot is working. Today I feel fine.
The biggest obstacle may be trust.
Glad the shots are going well.
Even the State of New York is screaming at their leaders to copy Mississippi's vaccination model.
But I can't understand why the "Soy Boys" and "Karens" are freaking out because their arms are sore after
after a damn shot ?
(A simple shot in the arm).
My gawd.
We have indeed become a nation quivering weaklings.
Fish, glad your visit to Trustmark was that smooth. But mine at Canton beats yours. From driving up to driving away, less than 20 minutes - and that includes the wait time.
Appreciate the comment above about the National Guard with the Go Army - which I echo, but mine at Canton was by the AIR National Guard. So, Go Air Force (as well).
Poiont is, Reeves/Dobbs arranging this with MEMA coordinating and the Guard running the shows is working out great. And of course those military medics do know how to administer shots to a large group in a hurry.
And I had no soreness either at the time or later. Hoping that holds true for the second later this week, but whatever comes with it - soreness, chills, fever - its supposed to be snowing so what the hell could I be doing anyway.
Yes, Mississippi deserves kudos. Even to those that found the website to be a problem the first few days - hell, Alabama still doesn't have a website portal available to make an appointment. Tennessee, Louisiana and Alabama - all our neighbors still haven't figured out how to do this right. Speaks volumes.
(And to 4:40, the old 'rule' about getting your second at the same place as your first has now been dropped. You can schedule your second shot anywhere. The other change is now you are to schedule your second by phone, not by the website.
It's all fun and games until the Department of Veteran Affairs calls.
Mississippi acknowledges that we have obese people and lots of diabetics.....getting shots to diabetics is crucial for them.
Joe Biden is doing a wonderful job coordinating and getting product to states.
Mississippi is listening to President Biden very well now.
Way to obey Tate.....well done.
"Joe Biden is doing a wonderful job coordinating and getting product to states."
Oh, horseshit. Trump and his crew worked like dogs for a year to bring this together - the fastest development of a vaccine in history.
And, FYI, Biden is also president of all those states who are doing a terrible job of distributing the vaccines (Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, read the list above). Credit in Mississippi goes to the state governor and public health officials. If it was up to the senile fraud in D.C. every state would be getting the same great results, right?
President Joe Biden has streamlined the process.
Joe told Tate to open the shots up to more people because the % of shots getting administered was so low.
It’s so nice having a president who is smart and helpful....even to red states.
Going to be nice for 8 years and then 8 years with Harris as President.
Good grief, are all you commenters 65 and over? Next all y'all will be commenting about your bowel movements and your social security checks.
CDC website (published in Houston Chronicle) as of 2/8. Selected states:
West Va. 12.2
Arky 10.1
USA average! 9.7
Cali 9.6
Louisiana 9.4
Fla. 9.2
MISSISSIPPI 9.0
Georgia/Texas 8.7
Tenn 8.1
Bama 7.7
Forgot to add:
N.Y. 9.1
Tylenol and Aleve? For what?
But, on a more serious note...Will anything be done to stop out of state folks coming in here and using up OUR vaccination viles?
Kudos to the fellow who had the cajones to tell a member of the National Guard, of the same sex, that he was horny.
10:32PM All are over 65 except 10:16 and 7:19. They are 12. You may be 14.
How quickly some of you people forget....
The vaccine rollout Started horrible. MSDH and the Hospitals had Mississippi
As the slowest in the nation. Then Reeves took over. The Hospital Association
screamed and yelled. The MSNG (go Army) sites opened. The website and call center
Got fixed. And now many states wish they were as efficient as Mississippi.
Thanks to MSNG, MEMA, MSDH, and the GOVERNOR!!
You guys keep claiming Louisiana is doing a “terrible” job vaccinating people.
Arkansas has vaccinated 10%
Louisiana has vaccinated 9.4%
Mississippi has vaccinated 9.0%
#TATEReeves2023
MS is in the top! Top of deaths per capita.
1 put of 477 Mississippians are dead due to covid.
That number is staggering....it’s on par with NY.
Tate fumbled as he waited for Trump and Trump lied about all of it to make himself look better.
Tate’s failures killed Mississippians.
To cheer on the revamped broken down web site and yanking vaccines from hospitals and patients is missing the mark.
This should have been handled better by competent people.
The contents of the syringes they are jabbing you with is not a vaccine. It could be called a Covid-19 “treatment” but it is not a vaccine.
Oh! I can’t wait to get my “I Love Obama, I mean Biden, soon to be Harris” shot. I love Democrats. Democrats are kind, loving, tolerant, giving, sharing, honorable, truthful, transparent, forthright and just downright patriotic. Makes me want to wet my pants how excited I am.
Either JJ has a bunch of old/sick farts following the blog, or a bunch of people willing to tell a lie to jump ahead in line for a shot.
9:38 Not sure who you are calling a liar. MSDH allows vaccinations for those over the age of 65 or those between 16 and 65 with underlying health conditions. I'm 52 but severely immunocompromised due to medication for a chronic condition. My doctor specifically told me to get the vaccination as soon as possible.
Throw in obesity, diabeetus, and smoking and you've got at least 60% of the adult population who are legitimately eligible for the vaccination.
The process of getting a vaccine is a separate issue from vaccination rates.
Smoking is not an underlying health condition. It is a mental condition.
10:22 Then I would count you among the old/sick farts and not those pretending. Learn to comprehend what you read before you flap your jaws.
Yep some who get the shot will be sucking down some aspirin or Tylenol. Got my shot yesterday afternoon no problem. About 2:00 am however it hit me. The shakes with a mild fever. Lasted until 11:00 this morning. All is well now.
@12:00 PM
Since it is not an actual vaccine that exposes you to Covid cells to form antibodies, i wonder why you got flu like symptoms? Must’ve been a reaction to the gene editing. Let us know of you are planning to get pregnant. I want to see a spider baby.
I would just like to know how to get a damn appointment. That site NEVER has appointments. Everyone with a "friend" or in some special position can get one but average people like me are screwed. I've been watching that damn site for three week. All day and into the wee hours of the morning and NOTHING. NOT. ONE. DAMN SHOT except in Extreme North MS. And of all things we are allowing immigrants from Louisiana to get theres here? Really? I thought we didn't like outsiders taking our stuff.
@ 1:13 pm there are currently 120 available Lauderdale county and some in Neshoba county
How did you get your shot so early, Jamie? Being a bitch wasn’t one of the 22 Pre-existing conditions... You bitch.
Got my second Moderna yesterday, 61:00 from turning into the mall, until they released me to drive home. Went quite smoothly although I had to drive 50 miles this time. Do not ask why but folks in line with me 4 weeks ago got appointments Monday here. I had to drive. Called "hotline" more than once, attempted to change location without luck. Yeah there were folks there who did not seem to satisfy the requirements. Not my business. I'm 76 and almost dead anyway.
I have nothing but good stuff to say about the process and those fine folks who handled the thankless job of administering the stuff. They, including the kid who answered the hotline Sunday, are heroes. The actual shot was given by a NG 2d Lt. "medic" from Jackson. Good for him, them. God bless the lot of them.
I'm sore, I feel like dogmeat, but in theory if I can avoid catastrophe the next couple weeks I may be immunized. What a country we live in. Where too much food is the problem. No wonder they keep acoming.
