I'm an self employed manufactures representative who got an $8,000 PPP loan. My accountant's firm is on the list. I took the loan in order to survive the 80% loss of income and help pay my one employee a little something since we are able to draw unemployment.

This was not taken lightly, since I will probably have to pay most of it back to my bank and it sure didn't replace anywhere near the income I've lost. I talked to my accountant and he said do it. They got theirs to help keep the employees on when they needed them the most. Tax season for them started when PPP was announced and taxes are due 7/15.

Anonymous said...

Is it really a loan if you don't have to pay it back? I would be ashamed to have my company's name on this list.

Anonymous said...

Read and weep?

Anonymous said...

So what?

Anonymous said...

Will these loans be forgiven?

Anonymous said...

Is there any law firm not on this list?

Anonymous said...

Corporate welfare. Butler Snow's partners really need a handout? DID THEY EVEN CLOSE FOR ONE DAY?

CPA firms and law firms were "essential". I suspect they had record billings due to so many businesses needing advice. So this was nothing more than a handout.

Same for Puckett. Road building never slowed down. Must be nice.

Anonymous said...

Ug. How many of those firms are owned by the crowd that always chimes in on Jackson Jambalaya about how they worked hard and earned their money and we need to shrink the deficit and shrink government programs and end welfare and giveaway programs.

And now you get to see their hypocrisy in black and white. Do you think a single one of those companies intends to pay back a dime of this money?

Anonymous said...

No wonder so many mom and pop firms complained about being shut out. The banks were busy lining the pockets of their largest customers (and their own). No time for your $50,000 loan so you can save your little shop or restaurant.

Anonymous said...

Though the list is likely truthful, what is your motivation for "outing" those who applied for, and received, legal loans to survive an unprecedented economic disaster? What could possibly come from this?

Anonymous said...

A church? Law firms?

Can’t wait to hear the rationalizations.

Anonymous said...

They couldn’t find a better need than “ Reunion Golf & Country Club”???

Anonymous said...

Look at all those private schools that kept tuition money justified by providing BS “distance learning” and then took the government “free money” too.

Anonymous said...

@ 1:40 - yes if the applicant submits documentation that the applicant kept people on the payroll.

Anonymous said...

I own a small 4 employee law firm and was denied a PPP loan/grant twice. First go around all the money was gone already and second attempt no reason given. Gotta know the right people I guess.

Anonymous said...

1:59, churches have schools with staff...and law firms; well, that's another story...

Anonymous said...

As a tuition paying parent at one of the privates schools on the list, I don’t remember our tuition be reduced. I think the board has some explaining to do if we were only allowed to attend a board meeting.

Anonymous said...

I see at least 2 country clubs on the list. Glad we bailed them out.

Anonymous said...

Will the $5,000,000.00 to 10,000,000.00 Butler Snow got go to the Madison Timber recovery fund?

Anonymous said...

1:43 pm These are Mississippi based law firms and many aren’t on it. The national law firms, like Baker Donaldson may or may not have applied in their home States.

I suspect the church applied based on the elementary school but it should have been listed that way.

Anonymous said...

Yep. The Biggest "A'hm a self made man" "you 'poors' pull yoreself up by your bootstraps," "Cut GubMint" types you'll ever see.

All badmouthing Gubmint, with their hand out for GubMint money behind their back. And both parties, to be honest. But, you see a BUNCH of Tea Party "self made men" there. Big time.

The ones howling about "Big GubMint" and "those people" getting $4 a day for food.

The type that get on here complaining about food stamps and school lunches. Or demanding more free stuff for "the right people (their friends)".

But never to beg for their own taxes to go back to 1950s or even 1980s Reagan levels. Nope. The CARES Act CUT their taxes even more, and this one gave them GubMint Handouts.

The little guy could barely get his loan approved, but the Rich Guys had their lobbyists, accountants, and "Wealth Managers" all over the GubMint Welfare.

Socialism for the Rich. Rugged Individualism for the Poor.

Anonymous said...

@1:43 - and several others.

No, they DIDN"T CLOSE FOR ONE DAY. That was the purpose, and the requirement of the PPP loans.

The program - which you are free to not like, but it is what it is - was designed to keep businesses OPEN. To keep them from closing.

Just because big companies got the loans is no news. Just like small companies - the 'loans' were designed and intended to keep companies from closing their doors and laying their employees off.

If they did "close for one day" then they wouldn't be entitled to keep the money from this program for that day.

Try to keep up. If you don't like the program that your Congress passed, that'sfine. But don't blame the companies that utilized the program for its intended purposes.

And, while you are at it - with all these firms listed here that got anywhere from $150k to over $10 million - why did the Clarion Liar decided it was headline newsworthy to point out two that received $150 and $350k that had a distant tie to the Governor? Did that make them any more newsworthy than the various politically connected firms listed here, or just a better headline for the folks over there that hate him about as much if not more than their former staffers that are now at MS Today?

Anonymous said...

I was in charge of my banks ppp. I can tell you this was a huge travesty of justice, and our countrys resources. The rich did get richer here again folks. Banks got a 1% fee based on size of the ppp “loan”. Which loans do you think they prioritized? Butler snow or mom & pop? My heart breaks to think of folks getting ripped off so bad and not even knowing it. Do you realize when the government prints money it increases the supply which decreases the value of your few dollars? Why do they even collect taxes? They should just print the dang money For all expenses. Think of the admin costs that would save!. If a small business was going under, this wasn’t enough to save them but I guarantee this fit the bottom line of folks like butler snow nicely. I weep for the ignorance of this land (I don’t mean that in a mean spirited nature, just a factual nature). Enjoy your socialism folks I’m sure it will be great.

Anonymous said...

Taxpayer money will pay off the loans if the borrowers use them for payroll, rent, or similar expenses.

Shame on everyone on the list who is a lawyer (Butler Snow) and doctor (GI Associates, St. Dominc Physician Group, Jackson Eye Associates). You are scum.

Anonymous said...

Wow! Been paying for my kids to go to St. Andrew's and with tuition at $20,000 per student and our kids could not be in class learning environments, you would think a refund would be in order. If they have a loan (grant) that will mean they do not have to pay what they otherwise would have, then a refund is in order. But if it is up to the head of school (Tom Sheppard) he will spend the dollars on foreign studies or clinics or something that increases costs and does not provide for students. Never seen a person so anti student or so anti parent as Tom Sheppard. It is easy to understand when you see he sent his kids to other schools, not St. Andrew's!!!! The man is an absolute ass and does not care for anyone but himself. Even hired his wife to be over admissions and let a very qualified long term person go, so he could put his wife there. What a conflict and has he not heard of NEPOTISM!!!!! So now he has a record of taking federal money, not giving money back to students and parents, being a jerk and being a role model for NEPOTISM! No wonder the other private schools are kicking his ass!

Anonymous said...

I’m glad that the private schools were able to get PPP money while still charging full tuition the entire time.

Anonymous said...

In the future there will be great disgust and some anger about all the lazy welfare cheats who were given a handout of $1,200 for doing nothing. They
will be the real problem pulling our economy closer to bankruptcy. The billions going to fat businesses was essential. Wait and see.

Anonymous said...

My church, which is not on this list, applied for and received a relatively small loan. I was involved firsthand with the application process and believe me it was not as simple as saying you needed the money and getting it. In our case the money we got was essential to pay clergy and lay staff that were necessary. This loan kept them from getting on the unemployment rolls. Yesterday we applied for the "forgiveness" portion of the loan. The accounting of how and when the money was spent was very detailed. While some of these amounts seem quite large, I'm sure the money was just as important to them as it was to our church. If the guidelines were not followed then only a portion (or none) of the loan will be forgiven. I look at it as a "tit-for-tat" situation. Either the companies got loans to keep employees on payroll or the employees went on unemployment, both of which are going to coast the taxpayers a tone of money.

" Butler Snow,
GI Associates,
Neel-Schaffer,
Puckett " .

$5-10 million loans ????
for these firms ???

Good ole boys matter too.

The one that surprises me the most is the anal doctors.

I had no idea the colonoscopy market had been affected by the Chinese Flu.

I guess butt exams fell off around the same time as new car sales.

Well by all means help the GI docs.

They do provide an essential service much greater than the rest.

Anonymous said...

Butler Snow? Really . . . Because all of their law suits were cancelled.

And, why Phi Theta Kappa? All the CC students got money, I'm sure they still accepted their invitation.

Ross & Yerger? This is absurd. The Yergers could buy all of Jackson.

Anonymous said...

I guess Telesouth Communications are suffering after Nancy pulled her advertising, I know the PSA's kept running.

Anonymous said...

GI got big $ and still laid off a bunch. audits will be interesting

Anonymous said...

@ 2:49 . . . Can't wait to see the enrollment numbers for all the area schools. St. A used to get it's ass kicked, but not anymore. . .

Anonymous said...

I haven't seen this much excitement over a list since hackers disclosed names, etc. from the Ashley Madison website.

Anonymous said...

St. A was getting their butt kick when JP had a REAL leader.

Anonymous said...

Baker Donelson did not get a loan.

Anonymous said...

The butthurt coming from you poors is funny. Yes I pay next to no taxes by claiming millions in deductions. But I also had many six figure salaries to pay. I'm not coming out of pocket. The government ordered the shutdown. They can print money for liberal bullshit then they can print it for me.

Anonymous said...

It's kind of eftup. We shut down the economy, those business suffered economically, so we give them a low interest loan and then, get pistoft at them for taking it.

But hey, I'm wearing a mask so it's okay for me to condemn others.

Anonymous said...

Ole Miss Athletic Foundation?

Anonymous said...

Really interesting that fiscal conservatives would have us to believe that Obama care and welfare benefits of a few hundred dollars a month is killing the government while corporate business are pulling in literally millions of dollars. This list is a sin, literally a sin some of those businesses that got money.

Anonymous said...

Churches have employees and churches' revenues are way down. No problem in my mind.

Private schools never lost a dime of tuition even though students were sent home. Big problem in my mind.

Lawyers and Accountants? If their billings truly suffered and they were going to have to furlough or lay off people, then okay. But I suspect many never felt any effect in billings, and thus, this PPP went straight into the partners' equity account. I mean, yes they used it for payroll, but the ample money they already had to fund payroll no longer was needed for payroll because I, Mr. Taxpayer, just funded their payroll.

Anonymous said...

This is EXACTLY how socialism works....to each according to his needs, unless he is politically connected, then to each according to his connection.

Lining the pockets of the already rich while paying the working man to stay home and not work. Brilliant.

And to think, Congress is debating another round....

Anonymous said...

Ole Miss Athletic Foundation, a non profit organization, got a loan...Grantham Poole is their accountant. NCAA notified.

Lets not look over this one. Basically their scholly fund got a loan. Doesn't Fins Up U go around bragging about how much money they have? Hang your hat on a loan, Dickey Scruggs, and Lamar Adams. HYDR

Anonymous said...

NCAA notified...lol

Anonymous said...

And small companies like my two little Mississippi companies are just barely scraping by with no help, bailout, PPP, or anything cause I am too small... What a joke!

Anonymous said...

To all the people suggesting that any of these businesses shouldn't have applied for these PPP loans, I'm sure you returned that stimulus payment a couple months ago, right? Right?

Anonymous said...

Another example of folks not doing the right thing. Most of the entities on this list should return the money received.

Anonymous said...

"The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the publics money" Alexis de Tocqueville. Its over.

Anonymous said...

Hope you socialists are prepared to take me and mine by force. Guarantee you'll get mowed down with the first step you take on my property. You've started it, we'll finish it, you'll lose.

Kudos to @ 3:22 pm

And the correct answer to Who Got the Money? .....Richard Rula

Hemphill Construction $1-2 Million
Hemphill Holding Company $350,000 - $1 Million
Suncoast $350,000 - $1 Million

Anonymous said...

Thank you KF so very, very much for shedding light on one of the ABSOLUTE BIGGEST SCAMS in American history!

COMPANIES WITHOUT ANY LAYOFF’S AT ALL AND BOOMING BUSINESSES LITERALLY WON A LOTTERY!!!

With the $$$ printing by the FED, i.e. currency devaluation that literally steals from savers, retirees, lower middle income and low income citizens, it’s bad enough the words “free market’ and “conservative” have become completely obsolete since the bank bail outs scam of 2008,

BUT, at least it would have been somewhat understandable if only people that were actually suffering had gotten the welfare.

This list really is unbelievable!

P. S. Well said 2:23 as I also weep for the ignorance of this country!

Anonymous said...

Some attorneys and accountants are making lots more money as we try to get clarification on the PPP and EIDL programs.

I'm one of those employers who got the PPP. It saved my employees from being laid off. However, that money is gone now. It went through our corporate account and straight to their paycheck. It would have been better if Uncle Sam had sent every taxpayer a series of checks directly to them based on a percentage of their previous income, with a cap. As it stands now, the PPP fees went to the banks, lawyers and accountants made money and business owners struggle to understand the program.

Direct deposit to lower income employers would not have allowed the skimming off of big dollars by wealthy people. But that may have been a feature, not a bug. And it artificially kept the unemployment numbers down.

Anonymous said...

Oxford's enrollment is nosediving fellas.

Anonymous said...

If the government offers you virtually free money, take it.

Anonymous said...

GI Ass-Ociates got that kinda money?

Well, with that kind of cash laying around, they ought to be able to give me the Ole Colon-Oh-Scopee for free and add EXTRA air.

So I can fart some John Phillips Souza tunes for about an hour and a half, nonstop. I might march up and down Lakeland while doing it, too.

Anonymous said...

Uh, are these illegal loans? I thought this was set up by Trump and the do nothing congress? I am sure most of these business lost money. Hey, lets publish the name of individuals that received the $600 extra fed money in unemployment insurance. How is that not as bad as these businesses?

Kingfish said...

Endoscopies and similar procedures were considered to be elective so ops such as GI Center were forced to shut down.

Of course if you have a polyp that is benign today but worsens in the next two months and were unable to get a colonoscopy because of the shutdown, well, you might not consider that procedure to be elective.

Anonymous said...

I guess all the critics here wish we’d had much higher unemployment numbers this year. Thank heavens these local employers had the wherewithal to get their authorized share of the bailout funds. What a bunch of dumbass commenters.

Anonymous said...

These people posting on here are completely ignorant. The amount of people in Mississippi that are employed by these companies is in the tens of thousands. Please go educate yourselves on the rules and guidelines of the PPP loan program before making such foolish commentary. Furthermore, all of these businesses were absolutely affected by the Wuhan virus and would have been morons to not take advantage of this program.

Anonymous said...

What bank made the 1% for the Butler Snow 10 million dollar "loan"? That was a easy 100 grand for filling out a form.

Anonymous said...

FPC JACKSON gave back their money. Not that anyone would care...

Anonymous said...

5:15, many of these firms would not have had to lay anybody off even had they gotten no PPP money. Of course, the PPP saved many small companies. No argument there. But too many healthy firms swooped in to snatch the free money. With the help of their banker. Your grandkids will be thrilled when they figure out what we have done.

Anonymous said...

Despite what the #MadOnline crowd may tell you, no one - including mom and pop operations - has been shut out of PPP because of the lack of funds. None of these PPP recipients took money from any other potential recipient. Running out of funds was a major concern early on, but Congress fixed it. They also extended the application period (it's open now), and there was still $130 billion left the other day.

If you qualify (basically every business should) you should go apply for a PPP loan. There are many willing lenders. If an application is rejected by a bank or SBA, it's probably because the supporting paperwork (financial information, bank statements, employment records, tax returns, etc) has underlying issues. If so, these are fixable issues.

Anonymous said...

Remember the most important fact - Far,far better for these overwhelmingly successful business entities to handle these funds than they be handled by democrats in Washington D.C.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure many, many of these listed needed this after being told by the government to stop operations.

I am interested in a 2-5 million dollar loan for St. Andrews. As mentioned, tuition did not stop. Will they also be dipping into the money for education later?

Anonymous said...

Well played 3:22.

Anonymous said...

5:39 pm I’m very familiar with some of these entities and they did not lose business. Their employees could work from home and sources of revenue did not dry up.
I was glad to see restaurants and the like that so did deserve help and still do.
Private schools and churches are a big problem for me. Their tuitions were paid through the year and no expectation they won’t operate, Their congregations and parishioners.
Churches survived all other disasters before becoming eligible for our tax money for a couple of hundred years.

Answer: In addition to reviewing applicable affiliation rules to determine eligibility, all borrowers must assess their economic need for a PPP loan under the standard established by the CARES Act and the PPP regulations at the time of the loan application. Although the CARES Act suspends the ordinary requirement that borrowers must be unable to
obtain credit elsewhere (as defined in section 3(h) of the Small Business Act), borrowers still must certify in good faith that their PPP loan request is necessary.

Specifically, before submitting a PPP application, all borrowers should review carefully the required certification that “[c]urrent economic uncertainty makes this loan request necessary to support the ongoing operations of the Applicant.”

Borrowers must make this certification in good faith, taking into account their current business activity and their ability to access other sources of liquidity sufficient to support their ongoing operations in a manner that is
not significantly detrimental to the business. For example, it is unlikely that a public company with substantial market value and access to capital markets will be able to make the required certification in good faith, and such a company should be prepared to demonstrate to SBA, upon request, the basis for its certification. Lenders may rely on a borrower’s certification regarding the necessity of the loan request. Any borrower that applied for a PPP loan prior to the issuance of this guidance and repays the loan in full by May 7, 2020 will be deemed by SBA to have made the required certification in good faith.

That is what is wrong with this new conservative mentality. It’s not supposed to be about “get mine” before they get theirs. It’s supposed to be about WTF is the government spending money on this, period?

It is my understanding that if you cannot provide the supporting documentation to prove at least 60% spent on payroll and 40% on normal business expenses (rent, utilities, etc.) withing the allotted time(is it 22 weeks now) that this is essentially a loan with a 1% interest rate which will have to be repaid (provided they do not change the rules....again)

Anonymous said...

Do some of you folks who don’t work for the GubMint realize that you or a family member might not have gotten paychecks if it hadn’t been for the PPP loans? I know of several businesses, including law forms, dental practices, physicians offices, etc. that would have closed or laid everybody off without them. Nobody here is complaining about the extra $600/week in unemployment benefits and folks not going back to work because they can make more sitting on their butts.

Ok, I understand lost revenues and companies and businesses needing money to meet payroll and costs when they have lost revenues. WTF is St. Andrews and this jerk Tom Sheppard (Other private schools) doing getting money. If they are charging $20 thousand for tuition and the parents are paying these rates, where are their lost revenues if some of the tuition is not refunded? Surely there is a board that is responsible! Someone needs to sue their a-s as well as Mr. Sheppard. What the hell is going on when they get that much money, don't have kids in class, are getting big time tuition dollars and not refunding a dime. This is a CRIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where is super audit pinhead Shad White in all of this? Do his kids go to school there????

Anonymous said...

9:12 The fact that you operate as an S corporation would not affect your ability to get a PPP loan. The loan is based upon salaries; you should be able to get 2.5 months of your 2019 salaries under the program. Now, if you and your wife have not been drawing salaries, as you probably should be, but rather only drawing distributions from the company, those amounts would not qualify. Call your accountant; you’ve still got plenty of time to apply.

Anonymous said...

The firms that got these "maybe forvgiveable" loans pay high taxes. They know that, eventually, they will be the ones who pay the taxes to pay for this program. The rules were set up for this program. Arguably, the rules were not equitable. But, if you are in charge of a business, and your business qualifies for the loan, and you don't take advantage, you have breached your fiduciary duty to the business owners. All you "holier-than-thou" posters who won't take Social Security benefits when you are eligible, cast the first stone.

Anonymous said...

You don’t have to certify that you need your Social Security benefits in order to receive them. SBA should demand all loans be repaid that weren’t “necessary” as certified by each of these businesses. The people on this board would be calling for jail time if they found out someone certified that he needed unemployment if they actually had a job.

Anonymous said...

If you own a business and didn't apply, you're only cheating yourself. If you don't own a business, get back to work.

10:13, you are no more outraged by this literal theft the I am.

And yes the highest tuition private school (Christian???) in the area that didn’t miss one dime of revenue taking $2-5 million is absolutely absurd and beyond a disgrace.

And you are correct that this is a crime…but, the bought and paid for by Wall St. thieves in DC are the perps (except maybe the one Republican hold out that was eventually forced to vote for the bill).

There’s at least one billionaire on this list. There’s several recipients that own hunting clubs worths millions. There’s lawyers. There’s accountants with booming businesses that could not keep up due to handling PPP claims, i.e. their businesses actually profited from the Wuhan virus, but they still received the corporate welfare.

Therefore it is pretty clear that no matter how immoral this is, it is “legal” so exactly what is Shad White is supposed to do?

7:25AM…congrats! Out of the 87 posts, yours, comparing social security recipients, many of which have paid into the system for decades…to Muti-millionaires and even at least one billionaire (on this list) receiving government printed welfare, it by far the stupidest post herein so far!

Some of this was grant money right? You had to spend it all or pay it all back. There are regulations on how the money is to be spent if it falls under grant money. This was the point of the money.

So, taking the loan is one thing. Seeking forgiveness and never paying back is a whole nother thing. The companies that did not suffer economically will feel pressure to pay the money back (thankfully because of media pressure such as this).

I don't fault somebody taking the loan out "just in case". But if you end up not needing it, it is not supposed to go in your pocket.

This is basically part of the swamp. It’s the way it’s done in capitalism. The good ole boys we use to call it.
The reason none of the politicians go after Biden and his son. Why? Because the elected officials, Republican and
Democratic party leaders, line their pockets with government contracts and leases for their properties.
So what do we do about it? Make all elected officials disclose any association they or their family, extended family or
Business associates have with government contracts and leases. Make them disclose government jobs for their relatives.
No one wants to rock the boat. They are all scared they will get exposed.
Trump campaigned on it, “drain the swamp”, We all know he played the game for many years. At least he admits it and is
Trying to clean it up. Maybe this is why socialism is on the move.

The business was listed as essential, and we did not miss a single day of work. We did lose some clients, but our churn rate is still overwhelmingly positive. Maybe this will allow the employees to see a nice bonus or raises.

Lots of great comments - however - one fact remains - The PPP Program was administered EXACTLY how Congress intended. Congress intentionally created the program with the intent to allow almost anyone who owned a small business to qualify. It was no surprise that they ran out of money initially. Once Congress passed the law, there was incredible pressure on the govt to get the money spent as quickly as possible. Even now, as they have once again extended the application deadline to August 8, Congress wants ALL OF THE MONEY SPENT. Doesn't matter if it's Butler Snow or the Los Angeles Lakers doing the spending. And this wasn't Trump's program. This was 100% a congressional boondoggle. Never let a crisis go to waste when it comes to printing and spending money.

The criticisms of private schools are off base. Lots of families pay in installments, which must have caused losses after the shutdown. Likely some fees for things that couldn't happen were refunded and there were unplanned expenses for shifting everything online. The big losses are probably happening now with decreased enrollment for the Fall. Those loans to schools preserved jobs as they were designed to do. You don't have a clue how much or whether the schools are asking for loan forgiveness. In other words, your comments are completely stupid.

As a small business who got the loan I’m amazed at the amounts some
People got. The loan was only for 2 1/2 months payroll and insurance. Think I need to go work for some of these businesses. And for the forgiveness part - owners of business will not be able to make more money than they did the same time period the year before. This was told after the fact so I’m sure a lot of this will have to be paid back if they enforce it

None of these companies are to blame. If you have a problem with PPP, which by the way saved million and millions of jobs, then you should call your congressman or senator. PPP did exactly what it was intended to do: make payroll for eight weeks with the possibility for forgiveness of the loan amount (which hasn't happened for anyone yet). Even if there should have been a means test it would have been impossible to administer in the short amount of time this money went out. Millions of jobs would have been lost while applications were reviewed and processed. Congress knew this and made PPP available to everyone. Again, argue with the program or the idea of government intervention all you want, but don't blame companies for taking money the government handed out to make payroll.

Responding to 5:56 and 2:29, the great defenders of private schools getting money with no loss of revenue. Take your defense somewhere else and by your comments, it is clear you are administrators or on boards or spouses. And the typical elitist comment "Can you read" is just too rich. NOOOO, I don't go to private school so I can't read..... Try and sell your goods somewhere else, everyone knows private schools do not allow kids to stay in school when their parents don't pay tuition. And do what the rest of us do, if you are in fact having less enrollment, shouldn't you need less teachers, employees, maybe decrease what you pay administrators, because hey, as you stated, there is less to do with less enrollment!!! These boards better be figuring out a way to give tuition refunds to parents and yes, that includes parents that pay full tuition. You frivolous spending hacks!

Anonymous said...

To the people backing St. Andrew's...you do realize St. Andrew's tuition is more than what the Government/taxpayers/the Fed pay per student in K-12 public schools, right? You don't find it odd that your school leaders think they deserve all that money?

I know many great people that went to St. Andrew's, but this is pretty ridiculous.

What about all the money St. Andrew's saved on utilities?

9:15PM, at the very least you’re being extremely disingenuous and you really should be ashamed.

6:41. You should check your facts. PPP still has plenty of money. In fact it over a hundred of billion dollars left. If a business feels "left out" it need only spend a few hours on an application. No one took money from anyone else despite this whole "big business" vs small guy agenda you seem to be pushing.

And while some of this money may have flowed to the ultra rich, the vast majority is going to help the middle class (including middle class business owners and professionals) who pay the majority of taxes in this country. This isn't even in the same ballpark as a Wall Street bailout.

Anonymous said...

Baker Donelson did not get a PPP because they employ more than the maximum number permitted by the law. Baker did have layoffs / pay cuts. Also, all the people knocking lawyers and doctors clearly don’t realize that although they are considered essential many saw a huge decrease in patients / work. These are the same people whose salary isn’t covered by the loan and were not eligible for stimulus checks. Get your facts straight. Oh wait - that would take all of the fun out of reading the comments.

Anonymous said...

8:13AM, now there you go again, being either disingenuous, or extremely ill-informed.

Your comment “If a business feels "left out" it need only spend a few hours on an application,” is TOTALLY, 100% FALSE.

A few hours on a Payroll Protection Program application won’t make up for all of the losses incurred by the restaurant owner I know that was forced to totally close their business.

A few hours on a PPP application won’t make up for the loss of rental income incurred by the small landlord I know that was forced to subsidize non-paying tenants due to the eviction moratorium.

The examples are many so we could do this all day. And this information comes from a Certified Public Accountant with many years of experience working in both the public and private sectors; so save your snake oil for the ignorant too ill-informed to know better.

Your comment “No one took money from anyone else” makes you sound clueless as to where this money came from. Do you not understand currency devaluations via money printing, tax payer debt, etc?

THE PPP PAID OUT LOTTERY WINNINGS to businesses that suffered no loss of revenue or net income whatsoever, and to some businesses that were booming and doing better than ever due the the virus, and IT IS A TAX PAYER SCAM OF EPIC PROPORTIONS.

The people posting negative comments about these companies need to read the federal rules that were attached to these loans. Then you would understand that the SBA loan money that went to these businesses had to be used for EMPLOYEE SALARIES. This money did NOT go to the business owners, physicians, lawyers, etc. As a business owner, I can assure you that all of the businesses on this list lost a lot of money overall due to the government mandated shutdown. When that same government says, "we'll give your business money that can help keep your staff employed", do you really expect these businesses to say "no thanks." These business did our community a great service by applying for this federal money. Some more reputable news outlets did something interesting with their lists. They posted the number of employees retained next to each business. See the Jackson, TN Sun as an expample. If Jambalaya had done the same, would that have stifled the barrage if ignorant comments I am seeing on the site?

Bad news 9:42AM.

Your comment: “I can assure you that ALL OF THE BUSINESSES ON THIS LIST LOST A LOT OF MONEY due to the government mandated shutdown,”

is not only 100% FALSE, it is so beyond bizarre that you have to qualify for either the MOST CORRUPT POST AWARD, or the ABSOLUTE DUMBEST POST AWARD.

For those reading the ignorant and lying comments from these Bernie Sanders of the Right types, this is not complicated at all and comes down to extremely simple mathematics.

1. Some businesses that received federal funds to make payroll through a date certain are STILL SUFFERING SEVERELY because taking care of their payrolls through a date certain DID NOT MAKE UP FOR ALL OF THEIR OTHER LOSSES.

2. While some businesses that received federal funds (on this list) HAD THEIR PAYROLLS MADE FOR THEM through a date certain WHILE EXPERIENCING NO LOSS OF GROSS AND NET INCOME due to COVID19, and therefore received the equivalent of a LOTTERY PAYOUT FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

3. While some businesses that received federal funds (on this list) HAD THEIR PAYROLLS MADE FOR THEM through a date certain WHILE EXPERIENCING HUGE GROSS AND NET INCOME INCREASES due to COVID19; so they not only made a lot of extra money off of the virus, they received the equivalent of a LOTTERY PAYOUT FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

Very hard to believe you’re actually a business owner 9:42…so, if your ignorant post was bait, congrats.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required.
